Guy Molinari?

Smack dab in the middle of S2, in the episode after the central crescendo, and loving the incredibly crap drawing of the martyr mural.

He POLLS So Much About These Zings (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 4 October 2021 00:48 (four years ago)

Just finished S1. My justification for not stopping at this point is I watched all of Battlestar Galactica.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Monday, 4 October 2021 01:56 (four years ago)

Fair. Also this is way better than BSG

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 4 October 2021 02:10 (four years ago)

Thought people loved that BSG reboot. At least that's the impression I got over here during the discussion about his more recent show: I come in peace... three times a night -- FOR ALL MANKIND (Apple TV Plus)

He POLLS So Much About These Zings (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 4 October 2021 02:31 (four years ago)

people do love the BSG reboot, until the last third

sticking the landing is paramount+

mookieproof, Monday, 4 October 2021 02:41 (four years ago)

Wait there is another, second reboot/third version?

He POLLS So Much About These Zings (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 4 October 2021 02:58 (four years ago)

the last third of the second reboot

do keep up, james

BSG reboot's last third wouldn't have bothered me so much if every episode's intro to that point hadn't told us that THE CYLONS HAVE A PLAN. If you aren't expecting things to make sense, the last third is more enjoyable

Vinnie, Monday, 4 October 2021 03:31 (four years ago)

Okay, vg, thanks, but I was talking about this

He POLLS So Much About These Zings (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 4 October 2021 03:50 (four years ago)

wtf

do keep up, me

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 4 October 2021 03:55 (four years ago)

Maybe I was confused about Peacock vs. Paramount+.

He POLLS So Much About These Zings (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 4 October 2021 03:57 (four years ago)

There were rumors of a third reboot but I don’t think anything has come of it.

Was this ever posted on this thread? https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/12/nick-farmer-knows-dozens-of-languages-so-he-invented-one-for-the-expanse/

He POLLS So Much About These Zings (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 4 October 2021 04:17 (four years ago)

like the villain feels poorly phoned in by ep4-5 of s1- and I hope I’m wrong.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Monday, 4 October 2021 04:47 (four years ago)

Who was it at that point? I feel like one of the better things about the show is that for a lot of it there isn’t a villain. Just different people with different goals clashing.

dan selzer, Monday, 4 October 2021 11:13 (four years ago)

It was Avasarala's war-crazy rival at that point, no? He was pretty villainous.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 4 October 2021 11:19 (four years ago)

Errinwright. Maybe that was S2. Sorry.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 4 October 2021 11:20 (four years ago)

S1E4: Donnager gets attacked
S1E5: Roci goes to Tycho Station to meet Fred Johnson.

He POLLS So Much About These Zings (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 4 October 2021 12:32 (four years ago)

Only 6 episodes left in the whole series? :((((

DJI, Friday, 8 October 2021 21:47 (four years ago)

did they go way over budget on special effects / set design and have to trim the number of episodes? or maybe we get 6 eps at 2 hours each?

that's not my post, Friday, 8 October 2021 22:07 (four years ago)

you mean if we degrade to Superman 4 fx, we can get like 100 more eps?

Gardyloominati (Neanderthal), Friday, 8 October 2021 22:08 (four years ago)

lol probably could upgrade from superman 4 (1987) to maybe mid-2000s fx and still make a full season. or we could do Garth Marenghi's Expanse and have infinite episodes

that's not my post, Friday, 8 October 2021 22:13 (four years ago)

Lol

DJI, Friday, 8 October 2021 22:16 (four years ago)

iirc they used about half the content of book 6 in S5 already, which made me wonder what they were going to do to fill 10 episodes. I guess less episodes is one solution

Vinnie, Friday, 8 October 2021 23:26 (four years ago)

Just wondering how they have a satisfying conclusion, unless it completely deviates from the books (which is entirely possible): the baddies of books 7 and 8 aren't really going to have time to establish themselves.

Tsar Bombadil (James Morrison), Saturday, 9 October 2021 01:43 (four years ago)

I don't think they've confirmed but it's very likely they won't touch anything after book 6

Vinnie, Saturday, 9 October 2021 01:49 (four years ago)

I don’t think they’re doing the time jump. Which is fine, they could always revisit it down the road and avoid spending money on aging effects, right?

mh, Saturday, 9 October 2021 14:12 (four years ago)

is this gonna be like the final final season of Game of Thrones?

sarahell, Sunday, 10 October 2021 20:41 (four years ago)

It's funny because I usually think less episodes results in higher average quality, but GoT disabused that notion. At least Expanse doesn't have its entire narrative resting on these six episodes

Vinnie, Monday, 11 October 2021 03:08 (four years ago)

one thing about those last few episodes of game of thrones is that they were basically all feature film length

a doula for creation (Clay), Monday, 11 October 2021 03:17 (four years ago)

My only complaint about possibly ending it before the time jump that happened in the books is that Marcos might end up being the final villain. Marcos doesn’t deserve that! He’s such a shithead.

mh, Monday, 11 October 2021 14:57 (four years ago)

i couldn't finish the most recent season, largely because there was a lot of belter dialogue and man sometimes that accent sounds right and sometimes it's just so, so cringey

gbx, Monday, 11 October 2021 15:00 (four years ago)

you could even say sometimes…. it sucks the big felota

Tracer Hand, Monday, 11 October 2021 17:28 (four years ago)

careful saying that around the beltalowda

Gardyloominati (Neanderthal), Monday, 11 October 2021 17:31 (four years ago)

i chalk up the cringiness to belter culture tbh - i mean, tribal tatts? come on man

Tracer Hand, Monday, 11 October 2021 17:43 (four years ago)

Just got to Amos's "I'm that guy" moment, incredible that it works instead of being a cheesy action movie line because of the work they've done on Amos's character and the look on the actor's face when Prax calls him his best friend.

papal hotwife (milo z), Monday, 11 October 2021 19:01 (four years ago)

My favorite group of characters (except for the Secretary-General/Errinwright who are too one-dimensional) since Deadwood.

papal hotwife (milo z), Monday, 11 October 2021 19:02 (four years ago)

That TY and that Guy Podcast is quite interesting. Th9ough I haven't got very far with it. Listened to episode 4 a few days ago.

Stevolende, Monday, 11 October 2021 19:25 (four years ago)

two weeks pass...

Paul Krugman today in column about Dune & Foundation: "For example, quite a few experts on international relations who I know are fanatics about the TV version of “The Expanse.” I think it’s because good science fiction involves building imaginary worlds that are different from the world we know, but in interesting ways that relate to the attempt to understand why society is the way it is."

Nelleee Hooper (Leee), Tuesday, 23 November 2021 19:17 (four years ago)

The final series and the final book coming out at about the same time so I can really confuse continuities in my head.

Tsar Bombadil (James Morrison), Tuesday, 23 November 2021 23:21 (four years ago)

Other than season 1 I haven't really been enthralled by this, having said that I somehow managed to watch it all so far so I will most likely be up for the finale.

Ste, Thursday, 25 November 2021 11:51 (four years ago)

(to clarify I wasn't enthralled much by season 1 either but for me it's the most interesting out of all of it)

Ste, Thursday, 25 November 2021 11:52 (four years ago)

We were looking for a new show a while ago, and like everyone, found the first 5-6 episodes compelling enough but kind of awful. The friend who recommended it said, "trust me, it gets better, it's the best sci-fi show in years, you'll love it," and so we kept on, mostly because we both think Amos is just unstoppably hot.

And then in 1.5 months, we finished all five seasons. Super excited for the next, though am admittedly sad about it being the finale.
