i will be the voice in the wilderness saying i believe him & it’s classy of him to give props to the Gunn movie, i’m glad he said something even though he sounds kinda unhinged

and i only say that because i fkn love Training Day & Harsh Times, and Suicide Squad never seemed like it was his movie

this was shockingly enjoyable! jumps directly into the story with minimal bullshit and the filming is crisp and engaging. pointlessly over the top with its sadism and gore but there's a zany glee that mostly mitigates the nastiness. ultraviolence minus the grim and gritty is far less insufferable. Everybody is having a great time on screen and the FX and fighting and set pieces and general direction are all fun. The only issue is length: this shit being two hours is ludicrous. The "by the time I finish my large popcorn, we are in denouement" rule needs reinstating stat.

flat-out bonkers, fun, violent, hearwarming even? all the things

some of the music cues were great too, ie pixies, louis prima

Liked it a ton. The only part that had me doubting it was the set-up with all the camera moves. 1) Re: showing a gun and not paying it off, was expecting a different ending for Polka Dot Man, after his mention of having to void the dots twice daily - maybe Harley's javelin pierces the eye, King Shark chucks PDM through, PDM happily explodes and dissolves Starro? The climbing rats didn't seem threatening until they got inside to eat. 2) After Deadpool 2, the initial bit wasn't as surprising, though I'd have loved a "we're f*cking distracting bait" recognition once TDK's arms started slapping. 3) Best use of Harley yet. The spinning/escape scene was a DCU highlight in a "commits to action like Keanu" way. 4) Killing Flag was a surprise. 5) John Cena was great. I totally bought what could have been a overly-ridiculous character. 6) Starro being a fave Justice League villain, thought they did it ... justice. Its final words were poignant. 7) Viola Davis just inhabiting Amanda Waller's rage. 8) And just now mentioning Idris Elba, which shows how jammed this movie was.

Don't know how good this was, but it wasn't bad, especially considering I don't know anything about any of the characters. Gunn knows and loves his b-movie and exploitation tropes. Plus, a few weirdly beautiful scenes.

Oh, and Gunn is remarkably adept at realizing the comedic potential of former pro wrestlers, though I guess Cena has been good at it for a while now.

It’s not your job to entertain us - it’s simply your job to be present to the moment in front of you -And to treat it honestly. I never really had to teach that to @DaveBautista. His rawness set him apart from the first moment I met him. It was merely a matter of creating a space where he could come and share himself with all of us."

like, this movie is quite a bit easier to follow than any number of Marvel films and I can't imagine anyone finding it 'boring' but that seems to be an opinion that is held.

If ever there was a movie that didn't need a plot it's this one, and it came really close to just such an achievement.
