jai courtney's raw animal charisma must have come in handy when he played Macbeth in 2017 for the Melbourne Theater Company's production of that Shakespeare play.
― Judge Roi Behan (Aimless), Sunday, 28 March 2021 23:05 (five years ago)
How the hell did that happen
― Dana Jel Pey (DJP), Sunday, 28 March 2021 23:15 (five years ago)
same way mel gibson got paid to play hamlet in a movie version?
― Judge Roi Behan (Aimless), Sunday, 28 March 2021 23:21 (five years ago)
how the heck did Icon Productions manage to land Mel Gibson for their debut film
JM - I searched 'michael biehn jai courtney' and that was m/l the top result, a reddit post quoting / linking some interview

Mel Gibson has a personality, though. Jai Courtney is literally cardboard
― Dana Jel Pey (DJP), Sunday, 28 March 2021 23:33 (five years ago)
(Gibson also directed and produced his own Hamlet. Someone decided to cast the most boring, I memorable person in Hollywood for this Macbeth.)
― Dana Jel Pey (DJP), Sunday, 28 March 2021 23:34 (five years ago)
jai courtenay and garrett hedlund are the same person imomade in the same factory, exact same cardboard, everything
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 29 March 2021 00:30 (five years ago)
I have no idea if I've ever seen Garrett Hedlund in anything. When I read his name I think of Garrett Dillahunt (as any sane person would), but when I realize my mistake I then have no further thoughts on the matter at all.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 29 March 2021 00:42 (five years ago)
his best performance was silently chain smoking & occasionally grunting in Inside Llewyn Davis

was already highlighting hedlund to search when this resolved my question

dillahunt, now there's an actor
― intern at pepe le pew research (Simon H.), Monday, 29 March 2021 01:53 (five years ago)
Oh man, I obviously didn't pay enough attention to this before, because I missed that Michael Rooker and David Dastmalchian were in this at all.
Hyped for King Shark if I can't get Killer Croc back.

Is there a general-purpose DC movie thread? I couldn't dig up a breakdown I posted of the ongoing development of the Flash movie in any of the DC flick threads I could think of

Could post in here for compare/contrast to the TV show. My name is Barry Allen and I'm the fastest man alive: THE FLASH tv show

I should not be hyped for this movie but I liked the first one and the Birds of Prey movie and this seems to be squarely in the same vein
also Margo Robbie is amazing as Harley

This looks fun.

I like the impression that they asked DC 'so who can we kill' and, when they got a list, said 'okay, cool, thanks' - also that there's (touch wood) no-one with Will Smith's "okay he's a bad guy but could he fundamentally be a good guy?"

i will be the voice in the wilderness saying i believe him & it’s classy of him to give props to the Gunn movie, i’m glad he said something even though he sounds kinda unhingedand i only say that because i fkn love Training Day & Harsh Times, and Suicide Squad never seemed like it was his movie(that ww2 tank movie sucked tho)
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 29 July 2021 23:46 (four years ago)
if Snyder Cut became reality, screw it, anything's possible
― Nhex, Friday, 30 July 2021 03:45 (four years ago)
this was shockingly enjoyable! jumps directly into the story with minimal bullshit and the filming is crisp and engaging. pointlessly over the top with its sadism and gore but there's a zany glee that mostly mitigates the nastiness. ultraviolence minus the grim and gritty is far less insufferable. Everybody is having a great time on screen and the FX and fighting and set pieces and general direction are all fun. The only issue is length: this shit being two hours is ludicrous. The "by the time I finish my large popcorn, we are in denouement" rule needs reinstating stat.

yeah i watched yesterday and loved ithad zero knowledge of comics and have never seen the other movie flat-out bonkers, fun, violent, hearwarming even? all the thingssome of the music cues were great too, ie pixies, louis prima
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 6 August 2021 19:28 (four years ago)
Liked it a ton. The only part that had me doubting it was the set-up with all the camera moves. 1) Re: showing a gun and not paying it off, was expecting a different ending for Polka Dot Man, after his mention of having to void the dots twice daily - maybe Harley's javelin pierces the eye, King Shark chucks PDM through, PDM happily explodes and dissolves Starro? The climbing rats didn't seem threatening until they got inside to eat. 2) After Deadpool 2, the initial bit wasn't as surprising, though I'd have loved a "we're f*cking distracting bait" recognition once TDK's arms started slapping. 3) Best use of Harley yet. The spinning/escape scene was a DCU highlight in a "commits to action like Keanu" way. 4) Killing Flag was a surprise. 5) John Cena was great. I totally bought what could have been a overly-ridiculous character. 6) Starro being a fave Justice League villain, thought they did it ... justice. Its final words were poignant. 7) Viola Davis just inhabiting Amanda Waller's rage. 8) And just now mentioning Idris Elba, which shows how jammed this movie was.

Don't know how good this was, but it wasn't bad, especially considering I don't know anything about any of the characters. Gunn knows and loves his b-movie and exploitation tropes. Plus, a few weirdly beautiful scenes.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 7 August 2021 02:40 (four years ago)
Oh, and Gunn is remarkably adept at realizing the comedic potential of former pro wrestlers, though I guess Cena has been good at it for a while now.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 7 August 2021 02:48 (four years ago)
He tweeted something a while back about Bautista that I liked (cant find the tweets but found the quotes) - “The difference between Dave & many wrestler-actors is when you look in his eyes on set he’s in the place he’s supposed to be, not thinking about what he’s going to do next," … "One of the things I deal with a lot with actors who have been a part of other performing arts (ie wrestling or comedy) is to get them to STOP JUGGLING and JUST BE. It’s not your job to entertain us - it’s simply your job to be present to the moment in front of you -And to treat it honestly. I never really had to teach that to @DaveBautista. His rawness set him apart from the first moment I met him. It was merely a matter of creating a space where he could come and share himself with all of us."

Cena reminded me of the movie Mr. Freedom.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Saturday, 7 August 2021 03:18 (four years ago)
xpost Yeah, dunno if Cena can do drama, but he def. has ace comedy chops. Bautista in Blade Runner 2049 at least gave the impression he can go deeper.

Gunn's deeper love for comics is on display in a number of interesting and sometimes subtle ways: the casting of John Ostrander in a minor speaking role, the naming of the country as "Corto Maltese," the clearly displayed Mafalda keychain in Milton's car...
