Fwiw I certainly agree that this place has the potential to exponentially increase one’s misery through mere exposure (beware, lurkers) but it is also capable of achieving the opposite effect (ILM in particular is not toxic at all right now and hasn’t been for a long time). I’m at a point where I mostly just avoid dipping into controversies that don’t even concern me directly anyway.

ILM and ILB are OK. That’s not what people are talking about.

Shakey is always a good guy to have around on ILM and not just because we have similar tastes in some areas. Fred seems kind of an intense fellow, who takes things to heart, so I think some of the areas he got involved in were not good for him.

I'm a long-time lurker and only recently started posting here. If you keep away from politics and religion and beatles threads this is one of the friendliest communities I've found on the internet. Those topics always bring out the worst in people even if they essentially agree with each other.

oh come the fuck on. milo openly posted about owning guns and argued against gun control years back to where he was known as ILX's resident gun owner, and Shakey's post was a light dig at best. he didn't know milo didn't own guns anymore cos milo only made a few posts about it, but it barely matters because "maybe Biden will take your guns away" barely rises to "elbow nudge at a party" level of discourse.

"Rapey Mo" is the type of thing that would get punches thrown. if you can't tell the difference between those two comments, I can't help you. esp since Shakey's comment was 14-something fuckin years old and something pretty much nobody remembered. you only have to read the "right to be fat" thread to find offensively stupid things milo has said more recently than that.
