Lol, are you going to pretend to be surprised that your perpetual bully buddy has kept on bullying? At some point it's on you. And you've joined him in a pile-on twice the last hour.

tbf xyzzzz has been quite restrained and non-combative in recent days/weeks, and I'm perfectly happy for it to stay that way and for you lot, Fred included, to not try and stoke any fires

I thought so too, but xyzzzz bumped the guardian mess an hour ago, and you all know what happens once he gets started. But yeah, it's why I'm pissed Tom had to lose his head because I posted something about Scandinavian politics.

I say we go back to discussing how The Guardian is worse than it used to be. Like, fuck them for posting this piece of 'news', I don't want to be made to feel guilty for not exercising as much as I would like to:

This is what I posted btw:
Every country in Scandinavia has a Socialist and a Social Democratic party, btw. And a Green one, and probably a Socially Liberal one. It's great. You can really pinpoint the melts.

Was it really so offensive of Fred to bring in a Scandinavian perspective? I didn't think so.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 18:08 (four years ago) link
It was the Fred perspective that was the problem, not the Scandinavian one.
― Load up your rubber wallets (Tom D.), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 18:10 (four years ago) link
It's tone deaf to go on about the way wonders of a party system which cannot even begin to be implemented here, with an added assumption this would solve problems.
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 18:15 (four years ago) link
That assumption is in your head
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 18:18 (four years ago) link
I was responding to pinefox:
"There should be a socialist and a social democratic party. Trying to contain both has led to historical Labour strife."
This is wrong. What most 'socialists' are trying to achieve in practice is social democracy - eg: on the Scandinavian model that PT used to champion. I am on the far left by most UK standards but would call myself a social democrat. The real problem is that the Labour right, Blairites, et al, are not really keen on social democracy either. So she means 'There should be a social democratic party as well as a socially liberal neo-Thatcherite one'.

I read Fred's post as a casual 'btw this is what it's like in Denmark, comparing political systems is interesting and informative' (which is true). It wasn't a swipe – I don't even think he used the word 'melt' ironically in the follow-up, or just barely.
― romanesque architect (pomenitul), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 18:20 (four years ago) link
I'm all for the whole 'don't stoke the fire' thingy, but it's a bit hard when posters just make up shit in their own heads and can't read stuff in context before blowing a fuse. The obvious answer remains permabanning the bully.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 18:21 (four years ago) link
It’s definitely a weird post to be raging about
― Last night I dreamt I watched The Mandalorian (wins), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 18:22 (four years ago) link
The Social Liberal party in Denmark are absolutely melts, and having them in their own party means being able to humiliate them thoroughly every now and then. There was no irony at all. The Green and the Social Democrats are quite melty as well, though they do have their moments every now and then.

― Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 18:29 (four years ago) link
Personally I have never used the expression 'melt' in my life, either here or irl. Anyway I assumed Fred was doing his usual, "You lot are all tankies" routine, so maybe I got that wrong. That and the fact that he never seems to show up in UK politics threads to do anything other than provoke a fight.

As usual, Fred, you have no idea what you're talking about, you have no clue about the Labour Party and the Labour movement in the UK - its history, its significance, its importance, so shut the fuck up and go and irritate some Americans instead.
