Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 15:03 (six years ago)

for millennia before the invention of chicken tikka masala, britons mainly ate a thick brown slop composed of potatoes, assorted pig organs, and wool

Potatoes a new world food tho. Surprised this person ate potatoes in the 50s, rather foreign

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 15:07 (six years ago)

The one thing that we never ever had on our table in the fifties ..
was all the delicious food I just mentioned
Fuck you!

I seen one today which was horrible - Union Jack coloured British Isles - "We are British. We Eat Meat. We Speak English" but I was too mortified to share

we didn't wear helmets, our drinking water was laced with lead, our parents were emotionally distant or openly abusive, and we carry numerous unexamined traumas from which we have suffered our entire lives, and this is a good thing.

That's the spirit.

wikipedia:
Laver seaweed has been cultivated as a food since at least the 17th century.

Weird nostalgia for bygone days of poverty is definitely a thing, but it doesn't usually center on the wide variety of good food you didn't eat because you were too poor or ignorant. That author sounds terrified of other people making choices.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 26 February 2020 02:24 (six years ago)

it's weird that the 50s are held up as the golden age of shit trad british food bc it was probably the biggest decade of growth for e.g. chinese and indian restaurants in the UK, at least in % terms. even my fusty grandparents ate pasta occasionally, and anglo-indian food like kedgeree had been around for 150+ years

big difference not listed there is that french cuisine was p much the first and last word in fine cuisine back then. old british ppl fkn love french food/butter/meat/death

R.I.P. I am asking everyone to please take a moment of silence for the United States Navy Seal Team and their families. Their helicopter was shot down yesterday in Afghanistan and they lost 30 members of the team. It would be nice to see this on everyone's page... even if it's only for an hour. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™My prayers for all family members. iโ€™ve been off facebook forever and am only hanging around because a) special interest groups and b) the boredom virus, but is it normal for people to completely flood groups with irrelevant and totally shitty memes? every time i open it thereโ€™s a a disengaged cat with a stupid caption, or a weak as fuck makuthink platitude, or some dumb game where people post the 27th most recent photo on their phone, or a low-res gif of a bus falling off a cliff. i am not in buses-falling-off-cliffs groups btw.
