I am occasional buddies with the lead actor in How To Get Away With Murder /namedrop - he's a lovely and very erudite chap and I keep missing his plays because they sell out
― imago, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:19 (six years ago)
Do you mean the lead actor who (ahem ahem, spoilers) is no longer a regular on the show?
― Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:20 (six years ago)
AKA he who was featured in a series of fillums about a wizarding school?
― Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:21 (six years ago)
How does this compare to the film (which I liked)
― imago, Friday, February 14, 2020 2:14 PM (five minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink
very similar style of humor, with additional characters and depth.
the lead actors are all hilarious, especially matt berry, and funny in a way that's distinct from the original trio.

I mean the one who was in Harry Potter, if that's the one you mean ah yes gotcha xp
― imago, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:21 (six years ago)
xp - you are buddies with Viola Davis?
― sarahell, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:21 (six years ago)
Will have to check out this Shadows thing then ty
― imago, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:22 (six years ago)
Watchmen was one i voted for but i have a hard time being passionate about it, except that its treatment of racism in America was really, really well-done and therefore the final episode was satisfying, and the Hooded Justice episode was probably the peak. Lots of the rest seemed overly mannered and refined and while clever didn't really make me feel anything other than impressed at the clever machinations. The acting was excellent, as one would imagine with that cast.
― omar little, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:22 (six years ago)
the vampire trial episode of wwdits is an obvious standout, but i also loved the escalating running gags about gabriel's accidental slaying abilities and nadja's endlessly reincarnated ex 'grigor'
― ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:22 (six years ago)
Anyway, has forks dropped some sort of fake on us
― imago, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:24 (six years ago)
probably would've voted watchmen higher if i liked the final episode more, but overall it was high quality. still pales in comparison to s2 and 3 of leftovers, but so do most things.
― ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:25 (six years ago)
I just finished Watchmen last month. A lot good about it. A lot meh about it.
If only we could get the schitt's creek cast to do a send up of Terrace House I would be in love.
― Yerac, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:25 (six years ago)
forks, don't you know you save the ersatz joke entry for the #1 spot
unless that isn't a joke and we're all currently in hell
― Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:26 (six years ago)
maybe just for me since that would be highly inappropriate i guess. xpost
― Yerac, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:26 (six years ago)
xp to me tho i am not an old-lunchian type for whom bad endings sour the rest of the show for me
― ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:26 (six years ago)
we're all currently in hell and that is a joke.
― ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:27 (six years ago)
I am totally confused about "male lead" in the context of How to Get Away with Murder, because as I see it, there is a female lead, and the rest are supporting cast
― sarahell, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:27 (six years ago)
Schitt's Creek should probably have its own thread. And it's one of the few shows i'd want to rewatch again since the characters are ones i'd miss when it's over.
― omar little, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:27 (six years ago)
I agree except for the thing where it's ending in like six weeks or whatever. :(

when my gf comes home, i've taken to saying "hullo" like joe pera
it's the dude with the extremely long neck right? How to get away...
Is Pimple Popper very popular? I liked watching it a lot on youtube. I assume most people are fascinated with that shit. I was watching that obesity autopsy video floating around last month while eating salt and vinegar wings.
― Yerac, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:29 (six years ago)
As I mentioned after my bingewatch of the first season of Joe Pera, that show is something really special. Sui generis.
― Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:30 (six years ago)
I bailed on Mr. Robot after the second season and again after the third season, but I guess I'm in a decent position to see how it recovers.
― Charlotte Brontesaurus (Leee), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:31 (six years ago)
Joe Pera is the best but I didn't vote for it because S1 was 2018 and we in the UK don't seem to have permission to view S2 yet
― imago, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:31 (six years ago)
amazing show
― bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:31 (six years ago)
i don't even know what it is, and I am very much okay with that.
― sarahell, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:31 (six years ago)
sigh it is joe Pera talks WITH you and that distinction from to you is extremely important!
― Clay, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:32 (six years ago)
still haven't seen season 2
TOO MUCH STUFF TO WATCH GAH
― ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:32 (six years ago)
Yeah, never heard of it. Is S1still available in UK anywhere or will I have to torrent?
― groovypanda, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:33 (six years ago)
can't believe pimple popper beat Baby Yoda
― sarahell, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:33 (six years ago)
As for Schitt's Creek, it is the show which all of my early-teenage tutees have been recommending I see, which has probably hardened me against it a little unfairly. Will probably check it out now
― imago, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:33 (six years ago)
Joe Pera Talks to You is the show that your sweetest, most contemplative grand-relative would make. Now imagine your grand-relative is in his 30s.

Sorry 'With'!
― Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:34 (six years ago)
I watched one episode of Pimple Poppper and it was utterly thrilling, I probably could've voted for it just on principle.
― Charlotte Brontesaurus (Leee), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:34 (six years ago)
doc pimp pop really placed this high?
― Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:35 (six years ago)
Joe Pera way too low. Shoulda been #1 by a mile
― Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:36 (six years ago)
the Milwaukee episode of Joe Pera was so much fun b/c I've spent a lot of time in those exact locations. and I also come from a pretty small town so I kinda go through the same emotions
― frogbs, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:36 (six years ago)
anyways joe pera was my number one and I almost love it too much to talk evenly about. the bean arch, you know. singing on the first day of school. a show about the smallest pleasures writ very large and the greatest tragedies writ just as they are in the sense that these things happen. I’m glad I live in a world that is shred with joe
― Clay, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:37 (six years ago)
shared but shred is also fine
― Clay, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:38 (six years ago)

― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:38 (six years ago)
Schitt's Creek and Joe Pera are the only ones I voted for that I feel strongly inclined to evangelize in favor of. They're like 'best of decade'-level picks.
(Oh and The OA but there's no chance it'll show up at this point and everyone who isn't onboard already is just gonna point and laugh like they always do at beautiful things they don't understand.)
― Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:38 (six years ago)
i love that Joe Pera and the show it tied with are both so very good, both so very funny and both so very different. I also like them about equally!

my #2. this show is shockingly good. it has no right to be as insightful, scathing, and just darn watchable as it is.
― ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:40 (six years ago)
Yeah, Schitt's may be my favorite sitcom of all time at the moment. I should try Joe Pera. (OA is all sorts of bullshit)
― Yerac, Friday, 14 February 2020 19:41 (six years ago)
Succession s1 was decent but s2 leveled up bigtime
― bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 14 February 2020 19:41 (six years ago)
the way the other characters interact with Joe (particularly the Melskys) really makes the show IMO - you expect him to get made fun of a lot but everyone just sort of takes him for what he is. which is pretty much how it goes in real life. it takes a lot of restraint to make a show this funny without constantly making him the butt of the joke.
