this is really something. it feels like a window into genuine mental illness and into thinking about your own mental state. i'm glad there aren't six episodes of this. it was very overwhelming/depressing.
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Friday, 6 April 2018 00:59 (eight years ago)
the depressing element of it seemed greater than the comic element of it.
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Friday, 6 April 2018 01:00 (eight years ago)
His best stuff yet I reckon.
Amazing how he was the only person in it, all filmed himself round his house and local park, but it felt so rich and layered. So much more intense than his sketch show stuff, largely because it was all him, not having to reign it in or dilute it at all, no (or v few) clunky punchlines. Credit to the BBC that they'd put out something like that, but minus credit that it's online-only.
I didn't find it depressing though, more like he's pushing things further than most, saying unsayable, etc. Your mileage etc etc though.
― NI, Friday, 6 April 2018 18:09 (eight years ago)
Loved it. Agree with how intense it felt, very well crafted.
― brain (krakow), Friday, 6 April 2018 22:43 (eight years ago)
it's all gonna kick aff again
― Droni Mitchell (Ross), Saturday, 7 April 2018 01:57 (eight years ago)
Currently don't own a computer and live in Canada so fuck knows when I'll get to see this. Murder.
Xpost to NI : it was shown on tv, on BBC 1 Scotland. Just not UK-wide.
― Louis Jägermeister (jim in vancouver), Saturday, 7 April 2018 04:44 (eight years ago)
Also loved this, seems like it's surely cost effective enough for the BBC to pay for more. Didn't find it anymore depressing than Limmy's Show or the Vines though. The mental illness has always been there, like the Millport sketch is just brutal.
― devvvine, Saturday, 7 April 2018 10:43 (eight years ago)
I watched it on youtube last night. A search there currently turns up the full episode (uploaded by Darren Rigby-O'Neill) for those without BBC access, though I guess it may get taken down before too long.

this was incredible
with this, and still game, bbc scotland are putting out stuff that's funnier than anything else on iplayer

With this and Limmy saying he was drifting away from the comedic approach, I wasn't expecting to laugh so much. This is as funny as he's ever been, I was laughing at this more than any comedy show since... maybe since Limmy's Show? I'm sad there's only one episode.
Did anyone else search for this on iplayer and find his Funny Valentines short video? That's good too. It's about a guy making a dating profile advert, who has no clue how fucked up he is.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 7 April 2018 15:50 (eight years ago)
yes& i should have seid: whit with this and still game, bbc scotland have got tv comedy.. on loch
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 7 April 2018 15:58 (eight years ago)
oh dear, oh dear
cheers for the link, krakow. got it watched last night, thought it was cracking, not sure it will be commissioned for a series as it seems a little darker and even more sui generis than his earlier tv stuff. limmy tweeted that he will make a series whether it is commissioned or not, id imagine he'll probably going down the patreon route if it isn't
― Louis Jägermeister (jim in vancouver), Monday, 9 April 2018 16:37 (eight years ago)
wonderful. but imagine how wonderful if that bear had been there instead of the odd shoes
― imago, Tuesday, 10 April 2018 01:05 (eight years ago)
a second viewing of this confirmed that i was wildly wrong about this. it is excellent.
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 26 April 2018 00:34 (eight years ago)
i absolutely love that sketch where the hard-man shouts to ask if his wife is in then starts filing his nails and bitching "Ivy, whit is she wearin'?"
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Friday, 27 April 2018 02:44 (eight years ago)
"call yersel' a man? I says "man?' - wi that thing?"
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Friday, 27 April 2018 02:48 (eight years ago)
exactly. I loved the minimal nature of this - everything pared down to a facial expression or tone of voice (radiator harpist) or repetition (ouija board)
― mahb, Friday, 27 April 2018 08:30 (eight years ago)
The bit about how to tell the guy to pick up the litter was perfect.

that might have been my favouriteimago's idea about the bear is good!

Love it when he kicks out the handyman and starts saying crazy shit like "I'm legally entitled to stab you"
"A big fat hen!" is probably the winner though.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 27 April 2018 18:34 (eight years ago)
"hey there guys, on today's show we'll be looking at call out culture an online spaces and we'll be asking the question 'what does it mean to be a good ally?'"

(getting annoying poxy fule error when trying to post full link, is this a known bug?)
comedy + music almost never ever works, but limmy nailed it

You need to take the ?s=19 bit off the end for the embed to work.

― imago, Saturday, 16 June 2018 12:17 (seven years ago)
I went and looked and he seems genuinely concerned about the fire, people in the area, and whatever institutional malpractice could let it happen again. I don't see why one would take it as a joke (nor make one)
― kelp, clam and carrion (sic), Saturday, 16 June 2018 14:58 (seven years ago)

― imago, Saturday, 16 June 2018 16:16 (seven years ago)
oh hmm, seems the fire was pretty bad
maybe he's being serious
he's ruined my sense of propriety
― imago, Saturday, 16 June 2018 16:23 (seven years ago)
Bit of both going on tbh. Gallows humour is a Glaswegian speciality after all.
― We can be herpes (Tom D.), Saturday, 16 June 2018 18:00 (seven years ago)
that's what I thought. it's amazing gallows humour if so
― imago, Saturday, 16 June 2018 18:03 (seven years ago)
a sincere/insincere binary is inadequate for life in general and limmy in particular
― ogmor, Saturday, 16 June 2018 19:54 (seven years ago)
Been listening to the That's Your Lot audiobook lately and it's a LOT better than DWS, although that wasn't bad by any means. He seems to have nailed the craft of story-telling a lot better, less of the ta-da! punchlines or over-extended endings of DWS. Plus the final Benidorm story is fantastic - a total throwback to his World Of Glasgow podcasts but with all the skills he's learned and honed in the years since. Few duffs in there, particularly in the final third, but overall a lot better than I expected.
Two stories really stuck with me, for totally different reasons. New Life is this brilliantly understated, non-grim, non-shock, genuinely moving short story, which ends in the exact right place for ultimate spine-tingling effect. Getting a shudder thinking about it now, in a perfect world, where Limmy got his own series of Black Mirror, this would be his San Junipero.
And Moustache, which is classic dark Limmy, but it's a tone I've never come across anywhere, no other comedian, no writer. Totally unique, and again, stuck with me long after reading, but for nastier laugh-out-loud reasons.

Would very much like him to do some more TV with other actors etc. That was the best stuff he's done.
― everything, Friday, 1 February 2019 22:34 (seven years ago)
I once found myself watching him play GTA for a couple of hours, it was entertaining but I promised to myself to never do that again
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 1 February 2019 22:37 (seven years ago)
I ridicule youtubers playing Minecraft etc so I can't imagine the hell my children would put me through if they caught me watching Limmy doing the same thing.
― everything, Friday, 1 February 2019 22:42 (seven years ago)
i watched him play a truck driving simulator for 2 hours one day
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Friday, 1 February 2019 22:58 (seven years ago)
loved him playing that
― nxd, Saturday, 2 February 2019 00:10 (seven years ago)
I watched him do the 350 dabs in a row thing the other day after idly clicking the link on twitter. I have little idea what twitch is or how it tends to work/be used and missed the set-up of why he was excessively dabbing in the bushes in the park in the snow, which all added to the watching experience in the end.
― brain (krakow), Saturday, 2 February 2019 09:37 (seven years ago)
It was a reward he posted that he would do if he got 3500 subscribers

... and what a reward it was.
