OH my god, that is the greatest thing EVER. Dan, you are a king among men.

I was singing "Get Low" to my co-worker this morning when I turned a corner and R.T. Rybak was standing there. Luckily, I was only to the window and to the wall.

The Big Fish diner is right off lake Winnibigoshish between Bena and Deer River.

DEER RIVER! 56636!

I grew up on Hwy 6, 3 miles north of Deer River. I went to Cyrus King Elementary. I went ice spear fishing on Winnibigoshish.

For a school field trip we went to the planetarium in Hibbing where I threw up orange soda as my classmates watched. Another time we went to the Soudan iron ore mines where we went 1/2 mile underground (IN A STEEL CAGE).

My family and I moved away in 1987 when I was in the 6th grade and I haven't been back since.

That's what I have to say about MN for now.

Bemidji, Coleraine, Cohasset, Pokegema Lake, Taconite, Duluth!

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Sunday, 7 May 2006 14:32 (twenty years ago)

I knew three Eric J0hnsons growing up in Minnesota.

Eric was my best friend in grade school. Tell him I said hi.

Somebody please tell me what is up with Skyline, Minnesota, the town located completely inside Mankato?

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 5 October 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

All I know about Skyline = http://www.topix.net/city/skyline-mn/page2

Come over to the dark side:

Hastings looks hopefully toward the future with a dawning sense of the inevitability of all things NUMBER 5

John Justen, the tap-dancing spirochete in your zesty chicken fingers. (johnjust, Thursday, 5 October 2006 23:33 (nineteen years ago)

BUT THEY ARE NOT FROM HASTINGS

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 5 October 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

TRU DAT.

We can't let just anyone in. now can we? Imagine how they'd detract from the dignity of our matching windbreakers.

I was in Hastings once! I even ate there!

nate p. (natepatrin), Friday, 6 October 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

YOU MAY HAVE A WINDBREAKER.

Think carefully before you accept, Nate. Hastings is like the Mafia; you can try to get out, but...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 6 October 2006 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

I want to be in the club! let's see.... have I ever done meth?

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 6 October 2006 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks, Dan. I was just trying to figure out how Skyline got to be the Vatican City of Mankato.

I used to have a membership card to a local Hasting's. Does that count?

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? ARE WE EXPANDING OUR INFLUENCE?

minnesotans obsessive jealousy of wisconsin is terribly unbecoming.

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 6 October 2006 02:52 (nineteen years ago)

Wisconsin’s long affair with cheese began when its wheat crop faltered.

I don't think so. As much as I worship the dairy industry, I'm thankful for a pre-Thanksgiving-night lab that will keep me in Minnesota for Thanksgiving (my family, too) instead of in Wisconsin. Minnesota is way friendlier, even if I will be in Hastings for the holiday.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 6 October 2006 03:00 (nineteen years ago)

There's a state called Wisconsin?

John Justen, the tap-dancing spirochete in your zesty chicken fingers. (johnjust, Friday, 6 October 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Is that pronounced "on-wee"?

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Friday, 6 October 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

so sad

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 6 October 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

You'd be sadder if you realized how close Hastings is to Wisconsin. Some of us aren't allowed across the border. I won't name names.

I don't know what happened to the Hastings thread, which I was going to post this on, BUT my band is playing at the UPTOWN BAR (3018 Hennepin Ave. South) this Friday. All current Minneapolitans are welcome. It's sort of a weird last-minute show, so we're on the bill with a hip-hop act and a laptop DJ (at least I think that's what they are). Anyway, my band is called CANASTA, and I think we're going to be on at like 10:30.

jaymc, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

Uptown has the best plate of potatoes-and-onions.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

oh hey i like the uptown. i always get the baked brie and apple plate

river wolf, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

ps - hastings thread is called cowtown, because that is a neighborhood in hastings

river wolf, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

We have a suburb nicknamed Cowbutt, but there's no thread about it.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

wait how did i miss that picture of the prescott bridge?

river wolf, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

jaymc, your show info has been transferred to the HSTNGS thread.

I had forgotten about the windbreakers.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

Is that the bar that serves big-ass bloody marys and lets you keep the glass? Or is that the Uptowner?

Jordan, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

i am currently eating a carbone's pizza

a substantial reason i endorse minnesota more often than not

the sir weeze, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

Gracias, SRC.

jaymc, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

That is the big-ass bloody mary bar.

John Justen, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

No trouble jaymc; I wish I could make it to the show.

Carbone's pizza... I still love it, despite having been a waitress during the era when my father thought owning & running a Carbone's was a good idea.

I want a bloody mary now you guys. THANKS A LOT.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

eleven months pass...

Regarding PP's year-and-a-half old Skyline question: I've lived in Mankato my whole life, and have been asking the same question every now and then since about first grade or so, and no one seems to know. Skyline is basically a neighborhood, with no apparent non- residential buildings. I'll, uh, keep you updated.

Anyway, MN= classic, though living in your grubby little hometown for almost twenty four years is among the mightiest of duds.

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 24 March 2008 19:17 (eighteen years ago)

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 24 March 2008 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

IT'S GONE?!?!

gff, Monday, 24 March 2008 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

Mankato Ernie's closed in, gosh, the summer of '03, I think? They moved all the stuff to a new location in Sioux Falls, SD. I bought a Bauhaus cd there, too (the live reunion one!).

haha The RHM is, y'know...

BigLurks, Monday, 24 March 2008 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

So what are the TC area music stores now? It can't all be Musicland/Sam Goody, can it?
