Oh, pretty fresh thread. How will you be defiled written upon?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 4 September 2006 12:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I spent yesterday with the dawning realization that now that the clambake is over, I am going to have to actually study something again. I may need to drive to St. Kate's this afternoon to get something from the bookstore. This is making me slightly crabby.

On the other hand, they totaled our car (which we will still have), so we did okay with the hailstorm (unexpected money, v. weird). Also, I'll be the person driving the used (but newer) car very soon. AND we will be getting our roof replaced (so it will no longer be shit brown) and other exterior stuff done.

I still don't want to drive to St. Paul today, though.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 4 September 2006 12:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I've gone video game craazy.

I bought a Shadow the Hedgehog PS2 controller for like 35 bucks shipped.

I've never played that game, and I don't own a PS2.

Hopefully the new PS2-USB adapter I ordered doesn't have LAG issues like the POS one i have now.
Because the all trigger-feeling L2 and R2 buttons on that controller will go to waste on the PS1.
It DOES have a more comfortable design and better D-pad, though.

I TRIED to get Incredible Crisis back today. No one was home at my sister's house.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 04:39 (seventeen years ago) link

So what hijinks did you all get up to on this weekend, then? Is Dan unscathed?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 04:42 (seventeen years ago) link

The clambake was tasty. We were at the country club well past the point where they had torn down the room around us.

Went back to my house for cocktails. Dan and Jo31 rocked it until a quarter 'till 4 in the morning.

We didn't share as many emberassing stories about Dan as usual, but otherwise a very satisfying evening.

FB's description is quite accurate. The clambake was very fun; I think the staff was trying to get rid of us by putting cookies out (although you'd think it would work better to take something away...).

FB's house is adorable. A. and I left at 1 am because we are old (although technically he is a bit younger than Dan, John, and FB).

There are embarrassing stories to be told about Dan? The rest of us, sure...

J031 is fabulous (I expected her to be taller for some reason), Dan looks almost exactly like I remember him, and I still want to know why I'm the only one with threads of grey in my hair.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 16:12 (seventeen years ago) link

J. does like to gnaw on things, but thankfully I am not really one of them. I'm beginning to suspect my grey hairs are due to my earlier life. Accept partial blame, Dan, or at least buy me some dye.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 16:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I have grey hairs...mostly in my beard though, which is easy to conceal, other than the fact that I am LAZY.

xposted from Eggnog thread, because I must re-establish myself as a respectable domestic type:

Eggnog recipe

1 egg (I use pasteurized now because it's safer and they taste the same)
2 Tablespoons sugar
dash of salt
1 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Basically, you put that all in a blender, mix it up and serve it. Of course you can sprinkle nutmeg on top and/or add booze.

This makes one serving and is easily multiplied by number of servings desired.

(I'll know no one used this if you are all still the same size after the start of 2007.)

Okaaaaay then. Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, I think. I love eggnog. Even without liquor in it.

The worst part is that, as usual, I can see what you are saying about the texture, and yet it doesn't change my mind. (Kind of like how I like firnee, this Afghani pudding, that A. says tastes "like a Glade Plug-In." He's kind of right, but I can't help it; I like it.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 6 October 2006 22:09 (seventeen years ago) link

FAKE eggnog is good.

Real eggnog is...not.
Both have too many 'g's in them.

John, you are hereby inlisted in the semi-torturous task of making a switchbox for all video game systems that I can't get SCART-type connectors for.
Needs 2 large 8-pin DIN(like the rocktron MIDI cable) connectors(female) at least one SMALL 9 pin(maybe??) and for sure at least one of these:
http://www.gamesx.com/misctech/mypin.htm
I think that's the same as a PC's serial port if i'm remembering correctly. Some systems don't have RGB outs natively and you have to go into them and create them, or you just have to make the cables, and this end is easier to work with than a DIN connector the size of a PS/2 port.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Friday, 6 October 2006 23:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, and if switching junk like that (even individual 9 part on/off) is insane, would paralleling and just jacking the plug out save the system in use?
Switching out the ground and 5vDC?

The GZeus (The GZeus), Friday, 6 October 2006 23:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Huh, I like real eggnog, but find that I have to cut the stuff in cartons with skim milk. Too many 'g's - okay, I can buy that.

Can anyone commission John to make random electronic stuff? I'd like a machine that manufactures time, plz. I'd like to think I'd use the extra time to clean up a bit, but realistically, I'd probably just use it for extra study time. And to catch up on movies and tv.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Saturday, 7 October 2006 01:50 (seventeen years ago) link

and make you and I weigh more

This is why I dropped physics so long ago. Extra time wouldn't be worth weighing more. Although I suppose you mean it in a gravity-related way rather than how I'm thinking of it (no, I will not go up another jeans size...).

Alternatively, you write, if he manufactured time while on earth...

Well, what planet would work better?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Saturday, 7 October 2006 02:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, increasing the amount of timemight actually just extend the gravitational pull or condense it...
Warping space-time isn't fully clear to me, and einsteinian physics are becoming less and less clear after people have learned to stop and start light and quantum theory becomes the focus.

There was an entire movie about the observation effect and the rapid move of combining physics and spiritual ideas on today. I only caught some of it. It wasn't very well made.
The interviews were good, but the original parts were mediocre bits of film-school symbolism and cheap digital cimematography.

It was called "What the Bleep do We Know?"
