Minnesotans believe that not only are their ways universal, everything ever was invented there.

Please understand that my mother *may* have the ability to kill with a dirty look. This may explain why my otherwise non-academic sister pronounces NUCLEAR correctly. But says 'ompen' intstead of 'open'. However that is just The Betsy.

Good grief. Uptown shootings = one gazillion speeches from above parental unit about don't go out on one's own there, like ever.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 23 March 2006 01:01 (twenty years ago)

Seriously though I've probably used that phrase in earnest several times a week throughout my entire life!

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 23 March 2006 01:02 (twenty years ago)

We decided to go for a mini-break to Duluth only once. The most exciting thing that happened was that while I was there, Ronald Reagan got shot.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 02:03 (twenty years ago)

I was just talking about the Minnesota Nice tonight, in regard to how customers treated the deliveryperson after receiving their luke-warm pizza on a cold February night.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 03:02 (twenty years ago)

the hot women came out of hibernation!

this is maybe the best thing about the entire state

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 04:18 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that was me. I knew you looked familiar, guy-with-a-laptop-whom-I-can't-quite-place. Belated hello.

Are people still thinking of going to the Turf Club Freedom From/Boredoms etc. thing? Perhaps a pre, post, or during fap? Also, if out-of towners need couch space, I live close, and rarely get the urge to kill house guests.

John Justen (johnjusten), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 17:01 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to try and come back from Montana for the show, yeah. it lines up perfectly with a short break i get from school.

gbx (skowly), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 17:21 (twenty years ago)

(pssst....image size is why.)

St. Uhro has a fancy theme song.

John Justen (johnjusten), Thursday, 4 May 2006 01:48 (twenty years ago)

I am down for drinking and/or shows. Who's playing? Anyone know? I am out in the sticks, at my parent's house (YR HOME TOWN, JJ).

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 4 May 2006 02:13 (twenty years ago)

Fuzzy El Jeffe Bear's home town, too! And Sara Robinson-Coolidge, not that she's on this thread.

Dan (WE ARE TAKING OVAH) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 4 May 2006 02:23 (twenty years ago)

i'm proud to have a mom from stewartville, minnesota (10 minutes south of rochester). stewartville is home to richard sears, founder of SEARS-ROEBUCK! i've been there a couple of times myself and i can assure you it is a fantastic smelling town. easily one of the most pleasant smelling towns i've ever been to.

ath (ath), Thursday, 4 May 2006 04:53 (twenty years ago)

I will determine shows of great import. How long are you in town, gbx?

Also, I will hold down for my collegiate alma-mater town, Northfield, as the most odd-smelling town in MN, due to the MALT-O-MEAL factory.

John Justen (johnjusten), Thursday, 4 May 2006 05:48 (twenty years ago)

My great-great aunt Arlene worked for Sears, Roebuck (the Lake Street store) for something like 35 years. She had a cool little leather-bound memento corporate history book on the company that I used to read all the time. I wish I had it now; maybe I should look for it on eBay.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Is the Lake Street store still standing? Memphis had one that big, too, but I think they've torn it down.

Austin has an interesting aroma, being SPAMTOWN USA and all.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 4 May 2006 16:33 (twenty years ago)

Hey guys, go look up "douchebag" on urbandictionary.com.

lol.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 7 May 2006 06:37 (twenty years ago)

(no seriously, I'm not insulting you, go look it up you'll see)

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 7 May 2006 06:38 (twenty years ago)

OH my god, that is the greatest thing EVER. Dan, you are a king among men.

John Justen (johnjusten), Sunday, 7 May 2006 12:19 (twenty years ago)

haha

gbx (skowly), Sunday, 7 May 2006 12:38 (twenty years ago)

I was singing "Get Low" to my co-worker this morning when I turned a corner and R.T. Rybak was standing there. Luckily, I was only to the window and to the wall.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Sunday, 7 May 2006 13:55 (twenty years ago)

The Big Fish diner is right off lake Winnibigoshish between Bena and Deer River.

DEER RIVER! 56636!

I grew up on Hwy 6, 3 miles north of Deer River. I went to Cyrus King Elementary. I went ice spear fishing on Winnibigoshish.

For a school field trip we went to the planetarium in Hibbing where I threw up orange soda as my classmates watched. Another time we went to the Soudan iron ore mines where we went 1/2 mile underground (IN A STEEL CAGE).

My family and I moved away in 1987 when I was in the 6th grade and I haven't been back since.

That's what I have to say about MN for now.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Sunday, 7 May 2006 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Bemidji, Coleraine, Cohasset, Pokegema Lake, Taconite, Duluth!

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Sunday, 7 May 2006 14:32 (twenty years ago)

I knew three Eric J0hnsons growing up in Minnesota.

Eric was my best friend in grade school. Tell him I said hi.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 5 October 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

Come over to the dark side:

Hastings looks hopefully toward the future with a dawning sense of the inevitability of all things NUMBER 5

BUT THEY ARE NOT FROM HASTINGS

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 5 October 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

TRU DAT.

We can't let just anyone in. now can we? Imagine how they'd detract from the dignity of our matching windbreakers.
