Also the idea of a manly candy bar is hilarious to me and I've bought Yorkies specifically because of their stupid marketing campaign.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

Which is probably what they wanted all along but whatever.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

yorkies are pretty good but they could have used smaller gauge nail chunks, also motor oil that wasn't loaded with transfats

flagp∞st (dayo), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

marketing of masculinity

I approve of this manly spinoff tho

flagp∞st (dayo), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 15:31 (fourteen years ago)

i conceived of the brands for mens thread as specifically for products that are trying to convince men that theyre not fags for using them while being no different than the stuff girls like eg coke zero/diet coke is how i break it down to an extent

lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

although diet coke does have more caffeine than coke zero, factoid

lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 15:37 (fourteen years ago)

^^ both disgusting imo

Nicholas Pokémon (silby), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 15:38 (fourteen years ago)

Oh I didn't but I posted about them here:
marketing of masculinity

They're hysterical. Slogan might as well have been: Because you're too old to still be using your sock.

'this is sexist' ? they say it's part of the game uhuhuhu

Sébastien, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:07 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, there is a really stupid part of the gaming community that insists trash talk is normal and sometimes even necessary, and that anything goes.

riiiiiiight

valleys of your mind (mh), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

wtf at that, really

'this is sexist' ?

yes

Mordy, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:15 (fourteen years ago)

Kind of laughing at StarCraft 2 as a comparative point of positivity, in that there are still a bunch of morons who think launching into sexuality-based insults or racial slurs at the beginning of a game is funny. Not all that many, but it happens.

valleys of your mind (mh), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:16 (fourteen years ago)

I'm stumbling at the concept of a streaming internet show where you watch people play video games.

beachville, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:17 (fourteen years ago)

It's true that video games would not be the same w/out 14 year olds shouting homophobic, sexist, racist slurs at you while fragging your character.

They would be much better.

Mordy, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:17 (fourteen years ago)

the argument begins an hour and forty five minutes into the video

no and thank you

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

That article makes me want to go on a shooting spree.

Miranda “Super Yan” Pakozdi stepped in to say that the sexual harassment hurts the community, but she’s shushed and told to let the man speaking for her finish.

I mean what is this I don't even.

I've been playing a ton of the new Star Wars MMORPG, The Old Republic, and luckily haven't seen much sexist garbage on the general chat channels during the game. But on the forums? Ay-yi-yi.

A Full Torgo Apparition (Phil D.), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

also wow, this really makes me glad I never got super into the fighting game community

gamers should all go die in a fire so we can start over

man you've never watched korean starcraft tv shows on youtube?

flagp∞st (dayo), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

possible challop: i think the problem is that the really serious/devoted gamers become so serious + devoted partially bc they have social interaction/interrelationship deficiencies. those deficiencies get carried into the gaming community where you have tons of mostly young men who don't know how to act appropriately towards others, and particularly towards women.

Mordy, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:25 (fourteen years ago)

that is not a challop at all, I mean didn't you play WoW for a while?

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

lol yeah. the challop is the conclusion i left off, which is where i said that gamers like to think that they're so enlightened compared to the cool students with whom they attend school. like, i think that myth is deeply embedded in the gaming community, and it's actually the total opposite bc of this phenomenon. actually, this might not be a challop here. more a challop on PA forums i'd bet.

Mordy, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

I watch SC2 commentary videos :(

Mordy, I think there are a lot of serious gamers (or professional, even) who are perfectly fine at personal interaction. It's dumbasses who normalize the negative interactions who screw up the system, and they're really typically a vocal minority in the fanbase.

I dunno if this is a challenging opinion or if the gaming community actually believes that stuff? I mean, the PA people really didn't react appropriately to some allegations of misogyny/triggering material but it seemed more like ignorance

valleys of your mind (mh), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:30 (fourteen years ago)

"If you're a woman. And then you'll get called a bitch if you complain about people concentrating solely on that."

this. i agree that it is sexist, but otoh shrug it off and laugh at it.
