Best non-rofflicious thread might be interesting

blueski, Sunday, 9 September 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

Gear's Sofa thread definitely.

And I just found this one randomly in I Love Music

Taking sides: Madonna or Janet Jackson?

The middle part is the best!

Miza Din II, Sunday, 9 September 2007 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

Ah yeah, that's a legend, that one.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 9 September 2007 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

Best non rofflicious thread = the one about the Danish Mohammed cartoons.

Matt DC, Sunday, 9 September 2007 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

I could never read the entire Madonna Janet thread which is part why it is so stupifying and a classic. This was one great post in the thread

the pressing question howevah: if I am in fact nasty but address Miss Jackson as "Janet," does she have any other tools at her disposal for determining whether I am nasty or not? Or does the whole proposition pivot on the assumption that the persons addressing her will be honest about their nastiness/non-nastiness? if so this is a pretty weak (albeit touchingly naive) method for assessing the relative nastiness of the applicant and new research is necessary

latebloomer, Monday, 10 September 2007 02:55 (eighteen years ago)

I think I'll turn this into a poll at some point either on Tuesday or Wednesday, so get your votes in quick!

Liverpool Tickets Fiasco is one of my personal faves as well, btw.

Just got offed, Monday, 10 September 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

A new contender!

You could say the same for the 'living with gay pornographer' thread, although the fact that every other post is a breathless affirmation of the thread's 'top-ten potential' or whatnot is somewhat irritating.

That said, Sausade's post is probably enough to ensure its nomination.

Just got offed, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

no winning thread being from 2002-2004, no credibility

blueski, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

Wait so what are the rules of nomination here? It looks like a couple of threads have been rejected for no reason.

Can a list of what has been nominated, what has been seconded and what needs seconding be drawn up?

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

I'll do one when I'm not at work. Everything with two or more nominations is going into the poll, nowhere have I stated that a thread's being rejected (unless it's clearly ironic or abusive, natch).

Threads only NEED seconding if they deserve seconding, i.e. if more than one person deems it worthy of nomination!

Just got offed, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

(unless it's clearly ironic or abusive, natch).

If the nomination is ironic, agreed. As to abusive, some threads belong to the ages now and should be remembered.

As to 'deserving' seconding, fair point. A bit subjective but completely understandable.

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)

If no one seconds the Missionary Position thread I will be sad.

Matt DC, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think seconding should be required. Most people at this point are just naming threads that haven't already been named and aren't going back to look over the whole list and determine which nominations they agree with.

Or how about this? I second everything that's been named so far. There.

jaymc, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

I second every thread that has been mentioned. No exceptions.

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

I'm nominating

BEST THREAD ON ILX: Part ONE - The Nominations

Matt DC, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

Now that's just being silly.

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

this contest needs spicing up. i suggest that all of the nominated threads that don't win the final poll be deleted forever. and the people who started them be banned. forever.

blueski, Monday, 10 September 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

nah, too harsh. maybe you could do that for every thread not to get a vote, or something.

Just got offed, Monday, 10 September 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

seperate poll for seconding

roxymuzak, Monday, 10 September 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

I second moley's vote for Ralf Hutters Blind Date. Thats some gold right there.

Trayce, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

What about the "In Every (x) Ever" threads? Those seem almost impossible to search, though.

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

And the one where people describe memories of their life from when they were 11 yrs. old or so...I can't find that one, either.

I'm unsure regarding Jagga's ambiguous rules and subequent attempts at clarifying 'em whether something has to be seconded to be part of the final poll...but at any rate, I second "So Not Gonna Happen".

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 00:14 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah one of my noms (the "sing along to Da Funk") hasnt been 2nded :(

Trayce, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 00:16 (eighteen years ago)

What about the "In Every (x) Ever" threads? Those seem almost impossible to search, though.

Yes, those are great! I would second a collective vote for them if that's the best we can do - but my favorites are the one about childrens' action-adventure cartoons (I think it's just called Stock Plots For Action-Adventure Cartoons), old movies generally, and suburban dens from the 80s.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 02:32 (eighteen years ago)

Nah, the best of those is the coffee house one. Which I have searched for, without avail!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 02:34 (eighteen years ago)

Even just searching for threads with title "Every" doesn't work - is this for some reason a blacklisted word?
