The prodigal son returns, so all my moaning about the poor start to the season subsides. May even go along for Saints vs Killie on Saturday as a result (gave up my season ticket a while back).

Unsurprisingly for Richard Foster, there’s only ever one winner in a falling out with Tommy Wright.

RANGERS takes this opportunity to remind supporters, especially those travelling to Portugal for the Europa League match against Porto, that they have a duty to represent the Club in the best possible way.
There must be no singing of songs, or behaviour which UEFA could deem unacceptable and the Club urges all our fans in Portugal to do everything possible to portray themselves and Rangers in the best possible light. Remember that UEFA has already imposed a sanction on Rangers so we must be vigilant and give them no cause to take further and more serious action against us.

The behaviour of our fans in recent times has been exemplary but it is important to maintain those standards at home and abroad. At all times we must be aware that whatever we do, both inside and outside the stadium today and tomorrow, our behaviour will come under the closest scrutiny.
Having said that, however, this fixture also provides another opportunity for Rangers to be showcased as a modern, all-inclusive Club. Let others fall foul of the authorities – we have seen what happened in Bulgaria just more than a week ago and there is now an investigation into a racist slur against one of our own – while we concentrate on supporting Steven Gerrard and his players in the correct way.

Be loud and be heard and hopefully celebrate a victory with the team at the end of the match but please, keep in mind that UEFA’s view of racism is wide ranging, which means singing or behaviour that could bring much more serious repercussions for the Club must be avoided.

In the same way the players are ambassadors for our Club so, too, are we, the supporters. So enjoy Porto, enjoy the game and together let’s promote Rangers positively. Let’s set higher standards and continue to demonstrate that Rangers is for Everyone, Anyone.

SPFL voting to call every league except the Prem is a new level of Don't Upset Ra Peepul bullshit.
If it's OK to call Dundee United champions it's OK to do the same for Celtic.

It'll be interesting if league expansion is dangled to protect Hearts - incentivising them to call it for Celtic.

oops, brain far. wonder how many voting against would mean that the season is just abandoned. could see it happening

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 9 April 2020 18:56 (five months ago) link

If it's abandoned there's no prize money and a whole bunch of awkward questions about refunds and sponsorship of non events. The season either needs to be called or played out post-lockdown.

It's hysterical that the Huns want their 2nd place money but don't want to accept 2nd place.

The Corbynite Maneuver (Tom D.), Thursday, 9 April 2020 22:43 (five months ago) link

If they want their second place money, they need to give us the title, and accept that the league's done. Because otherwise, if they think they can still win, they have to accept that they might also be overtaken by Aberdeen or Motherwell.

Non, je ned raggette rien (onimo), Wednesday, 15 April 2020 20:56 (five months ago) link

Isn’t it because UEFA have threatened to deny entry to European competitions for countries that declare their top leagues over? I dunno why UEFA can’t see football is not happening in any way to allow seasons to complete before next year starts.

treefell, Wednesday, 15 April 2020 22:41 (five months ago) link

I think it’s the UEFA thing. Or that’s my best guess.

I’m going to assume Dundee will be in next season’s expanded top flight, then.

I’m fine with 14 (7/7 split) then 10/10/10 with Kelty and Brora joining.

michaellambert, Wednesday, 15 April 2020 22:48 (five months ago) link

it's nothing to do with the UEFA thing, the clubs that voted against aren't happy with their current league position, either in relegation positions or not at the top of the table. it's as simple as that. this vote only gives the spfl the power to conclude the season. they're not actually going to formerly donor that top-flight until they get the go-ahead
