CAVEAT: I'm only happy about this one because I like to pretend that the ceiling caved in two seconds after this photo was taken killing all three where they stood.

haha what it comes to when i get messages faster thru ilx than on my phone, which is...on the other side of the room somewhere, and on silent

sadly i'm ill this weekend - just a cold but you really don't want me sneezing all over you today. however i'd be up for some weekday brunch this week?

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Sunday, 5 September 2010 09:54 (nine years ago) link

LOL, figured your phone was on silent. We should go for HIGH TEA at Dean Street Townhouse instead because I am obsessed with it. Have things every day this week (I know!!) except for Friday but on Tuesday things might work out - have editor lunch the next day and have to wait in until 5 for a delivery.

(oh hai ILX, welcome to my schedule)

maintenant avec plus de fromage (suzy), Sunday, 5 September 2010 10:01 (nine years ago) link

my phone's always on silent! or vibrate, amounts to the same thing at home. texts get noticed quicker as it flashes when they come in. sadly, twitter/email works quickest unless i am genuinely incommunicado.

i've never been to dean st townhouse so YES, definitely up for that. tues will work for me if it works for you, if not raincheck until a quieter and less ill week...

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Sunday, 5 September 2010 10:05 (nine years ago) link

This is a plan. Delivery should take place before 5, so we must do this. They MAKE THEIR OWN SCOTCH EGGS http://www.deanstreettownhouse.com/dining-room/High-Tea/

Ali/Liston took place in Miami on February 25, 1964. Malcolm X and Sam Cooke were in town for the fight, making Miami the cultural/political center of the universe for a few days.

StanM, Saturday, 28 May 2011 20:49 (eight years ago) link

The philosophy of Andy Warhol:

I thought that young people had more problems than old people, and I hoped I could last until I was older so I wouldn’t have all those problems. Then I looked around and saw that everybody who looked young had young problems and that everybody who looked old had old problems. The “old” problems looked to me easier to take than the “young” problems. So I decided to go gray so nobody would know how old I was and I would look younger to them than how old they thought I was. I would gain a lot by going gray: (1) I would have old problems, which were easier to take than young problems. (2) everyone would be impressed by how young I looked, and (3) I would be relieved of the responsibility of acting young– I could occasionally lapse into eccentricity or senility and no one would think anything of it because of my gray hair. When you’ve got gray hair, every move you make is “young” and “spry,” instead of just being normally active. It’s like you’re getting a new talent. So I died my hair gray when I was about twenty-three.

not so unexpected but on a nick cave tip...

there have been gallery exhibitions just of T0ny M0tt's backstage photos from the '93 BDO (iirc the Bad Seeds played just before Carter USM, mid-afternoon, and I missed Iggy around sunset bcz he was clashing with Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy, but Cave ran out on stage and picked him up while half of Sonic Youth were playing with him)

there's a doco about the ...'96? tour - something like 70% of it was shot by Billy Bragg on a camcorder backstage*, including a magnificent moment of him wandering into a demountable green room, narrating how he's going to reveal the secret of Nick Cave's posture... Cave and various others are morosely drinking from plastic cups and quietly chatting, when Bragg chirrups "'ey Nick! Show us yer Cat In The 'At silhouette!" Cave's eyes flare briefly into gothlord fury/disdain at being interrupted, then immediately a lolembarrassed flush of awareness comes over him, and he turns sideways to display his lazy, S-shaped slouch. "There you go - the Cat In The 'At," says fellow dad Billy.

*all the bands were invited to film stuff, but Bragg was the only one who preferred to amble about chatting to people rather than getting drunk and going go-karting, or whatever.

Dunno, but I've never seen Kermit and Henson together--much less physically connected, au naturel--so it seemed right for this thread.

Not a surprise, I know. But I just scrolled through the entire thread to make sure it wasn't already there, so I get to bend the rules.

iirc he was mercilessly booed by tween girl Monkees fans so hard that his run on the tour was cut way short.

apparently Hendrix hung out with a pre-fame Peter Tork when they were both musicians frequenting the Village.
Surprised me slightly when I first heard that since Peter seems to be about the most nothing member of the band, but he was a Village folkie before he got picked up for the series. Davy Jones is at least cloying.

Maybe I need to watch the series(es) again for a better look at Peter?
