It was fine mostly, I just want to get rid of one sticking point and don't have mod privileges to change the top most and this was the most visible way to let people know.

The no classical rule was there mostly because I didn't want to listen or deal with Xenakis. Sigh.

Have we ever had a ballot with more than 20 entries? How are the points distributed for, say, a 50-item ballot?

it's not complicated you just adjust the points scale (no. 1 gets 50 points, no. 50 gets 1 point, etc.)

this is why you lay out how you're going to assign points at the outset, and how long a ballot you will accept

To answer your first question - yes we have, though not often. Justified in this case IMO. Epics poll => epic length ballots. I'd also welcome a stupidly epic points assignment, e.g. 999 points for your #1, 500 for #2, 250, 200, 150, 145, 140 etc. (or something)

I used a floating Pazz & Jop-type point system for Neil Young--how many points you had to work with depended upon how large your ballot was--with ballots of up to 50 songs. It was quite needlessly complicated.

It was my Blur poll that resulted in this never-ending list being drawn up a few years ago. That poll had 22 spots on the ballot and some of the subsequent ones did too, but it's been tidied up to 20 in most of them.

More than a month later and the "epics" poll hasn't even started and the s3 results rollout is proceeding at the rate of one a day. Lol @ this being preceded by the discussion about keeping things moving along at the rate of one poll every couple of weeks.

Right? The plot is entirely lost.

the next poll on the list is actually Yo La Tengo/Dump (Clemenza). I would happily tell him to get started if I didn't think people would complain about too many polls going on at once. The "epics" thing has turned into a clusterfuck (just as I predicted) and yet people seem to be enjoying arguing about it and it's not like I can shut it down (much as I would like to), nor can I make Elvis Telecom roll out his results any faster. But at this rate things are gonna be bogged down for awhile.

I have no problem with the next poll going, as I'm going to give an extended amount of time for people to figure out their ballots.

the audiences for the ones up through CCR are probably tiny enough that they could all run simultaneously without threatening ILM's attention spam imo

I realise that it's years until it would happen anyway, but I want to withdraw myself from the electroclash poll, I don't think I'd be able to deliver the desirable level of finesse and sparkle. If anyone else was interested enough to take over I wouldn't mind adding up ballots if they handle images/MCing threads etc
