On August 18th, Orteil announced that the game had been receiving an average of 200,000 players per day.

One burly voice screamed and that was one of many. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 15:14 (ten years ago) link

does anyone really enjoy the act of clicking?

I wouldn't say enjoyed, it was a harrowing film but worth watching

just to document previous support for what n/a mentioned:

Idea: for each result that shows up in a thread search, display total # of posts + time stamp for last post

I like that.

pplains, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 16:50 (ten years ago) link

Seems like ILXor wants to touch server-side as little as possible, so we're stuck with client-side, I'm afraid.

one month passes...

Eliminate radio-button polls from ILX starting 1/1/2014, bring 'em back 1/1/2015.

Tip from Tae Kwon Do: (crüt), Thursday, 24 October 2013 17:54 (ten years ago) link

Here's a legitimate one:

On Android, the site does not have a link to scroll down to the last post like there is on the iPhone.

c21m50nh3x460n, Thursday, 24 October 2013 17:56 (ten years ago) link

My idea is legitimate, and not intended as a joke.

can someone make a stylesheet that makes ILX look like Outlook?

you could make bookmarks look like the inbox and threads look like the body of an email.

hahaha, I got a work email today that consisted of "DONE" and I didn't even think of ILX. Is the spell finally broken?

Victor Immature (WilliamC), Thursday, 24 October 2013 20:36 (ten years ago) link

The only CSS I'm willing to work on is my own.

So, you dudes should use it and tell me what needs fixing, and I'll be your slave for free.

You don't get that type of offer everyday, gentlemen.

Gimme 50 or 100 search results per page instead of ten. I'd rather scroll than click (rejected Reynolds Girls lyric).

grown-arsed man (onimo), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 11:59 (ten years ago) link

In long threads, enable loading of say 50 messages at a time instead of having to load them all.

Great idea. Might be nice to have a function that allows you to skip to the next/previous big time jump in a thread as well.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 12:36 (ten years ago) link

But plz make the 50 post thing optional. That would be maddening for me.

Jeff, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 13:00 (ten years ago) link

Still want an @ function where you can @ people's user names, and if you've been @ed a little notification appears on the menubar where if you click on it, you're taking to a page with links to the anchor tags within the threads where you were @ed

gonna need that foot rub first.

pplains, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 13:58 (ten years ago) link

Every day, somewhere in the vast expanses of all the ILxes, the plaintive cry of "Tracer Hand to thread!" can be heard, more in hope than expectation. The rejoicing when he appears, it is something to behold.

go back to how it was in the old code where posts were coded so that their permalinks were numbered serially, not randomly

ᶓ͠סּᴥ͠סּᶔ ᶓͼ᷆ₓͼ᷇ᶔ (gr8080), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 14:13 (ten years ago) link

also would be cool to see chronological list of threads by board

holla February 2005 - December 2006 IRE

Maybe a separate board where mods can put completed ballot polls.

I know I post this like monthly, but it's super easy to do this manually. Click "permalink" on a post, and then you can just reduce the number in the URL where it says "bookmarkedmessageid="

It takes a little trial and error to get to the exact right spot, but reducing it by a thousand or so is usually good enough.

Panaïs Pnin (The Yellow Kid), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:26 (ten years ago) link

many websites rate the security of one's password as it's typed. There's a little meter that changes from red to yellow and then finally to green as more characters are added. I'd like a real time meter of otm next to the submit button.

mario chalmers of ilx (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:47 (ten years ago) link

also, precog mods that ban ilxors before the offending post(s)

mario chalmers of ilx (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:48 (ten years ago) link

this is reminding me of a project I started last year but didn't finish -- there's a toolkit for identifying people based on their grammar and syntax. was planning on making a web browser extension that'd learn who users are, and then be able to guess who sock puppets might be. anyone else, feel free to take it up.

mh, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:50 (ten years ago) link

if there is going to be an otm meter, then surely there needs to be a set of otm bar charts that track individual user's otm ratings so that we can have quarterly stack ranks

that would let us do away with FP because at the end of the quarter you could just auto-ban anyone who isn't hitting the otm target they agreed to in their yearly development plan

Moodles, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:55 (ten years ago) link

xp should also be able to translate a post into another poster's style or perhaps a weighted sum of several posters' styles
