I emailed LBI and he asked me to pass on his apologies but he's not able to run it just now. He did say that I could step into his shoes, which I can do but it'd actually work better for me if Nate went first.

So shall we do it that way? It also gives LBI a couple of weeks in case he changes his mind.

Actually, Fleetwood Mac hasn't finished yet. Should I wait or go now? Is there usually a bit of an overlap?

Oh cool, this all worked out while I was having my post-meal coma. LBI, hope all's well and that the reason you can't do the poll is because you have too much good stuff going on.

Could I get a check-in from Tarfumes, Mordy, V79 and Billy Dods confirming their polls coming up? V79 hasn't posted in this thread in several months and hasn't posted on ILX in a few weeks. There should be more warning of lineup changes, and I appreciate Nate's willingness to jump in with the Cure on zero notice.

I'm good to go, expecting to get it started sometime in October depending how quickly the others roll by.

I'm confirming! I'm going to need some hand-holding running the thing (I heard there's a spreadsheet or something to make the tabulation easier? I am terrible at using Excel however), if someone doesn't mind helping me?

Mordy, I'll email you the Excel file. I don't know anything about spreadsheets either, but Finefinemusic's notes in the file are pretty clear, so I was able to figure it out after a few minutes of staring at it and going 'wha?'

As much as I love Peter Gabriel, he's not the most prolific dude in the game.

by that, I mean we'd be working with a pretty shallow pool of material.

seven studio albums, four soundtracks, at least two of which have tracks i could see getting votes, and a grab-bag of, like, covers and one-offs ("party man"!), so about as much material as e.g. Pulp, PJ Harvey, Roxy Music, The Clash, New Order, Saint Etienne etc etc

Realistically, though, all my votes are likely to come from five of his first six albums (and maybe his cover of "The Book of Love").

Should his years in Genesis be included?

genesis years would confuse things, I think, and should accrue to some future Genesis poll rather than a PG solo poll. I get why Roxy/Ferry got combined but genesis seems its own thing.

I just haven't kept up with ILX for some time now (and recent polls didn't interest me that much), so thank you WmC very much for your email! just one q - when is (approx.) my poll going to have to start? I just don't really know how fast do these things run these days.

They're going about 2 weeks per poll right now, so probably the end of September? I can send you another reminder when we're about 2-3 weeks out from Neptunes if you'd like.

I think a 'Genesis Family' poll could be good xp - Genesis, Gabriel & Collins solo work, Mike & The Mechanics, Philip Bailey (duet with Phil Collins), etc. I always like seeing completely different styles & eras competing. Maybe it covers too much ground, but there are enough mighty singles there to tempt the casual voter.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and bow out in advance for "Classic Rock Canon" - - the classic rock radio thread is reminding me how difficult it will be even to figure out the parameters...and more to the point, I'm about to go back to school and just don't know if I'll be swamped with work when my number gets called. Anybody else is welcome to the idea if they think they can make it work!

Classic rock stations add one new song to their playlists each year; it could also be postponed until you graduate, get your doctorate, get tenure, and write a few books. The results will be more or less the same.

I like the idea of that Classic Rock Canon poll, using the database from some dude's industry contact. Hope somebody will claim it.

i think i flaked out on ever sending casino my spreadsheets, but if anyone else wants to do it i'll send it to them. i may volunteer to run it down the road but i don't want to sign up for anything until after i've gotten through the Jay-Z poll.

My Cure spreadsheet turned out pretty good, it cross refs against album lists and generates the text (position, name, points, votes, no. of first place votes) to c&p into the ILM thread. It's available to anyone who wants it, I'll put it in a dropbox folder.

Thinking Moka should do images for ALL the polls.
