Thread for coordinating the order and timing of ILM ballot polls

I don't want to post the whole thing too often -- makes scrolling through it all obnoxious.

I might go under the hood one of these days and edit out the long list in posts more than a month old.

Would it be OK to put the 'up-to-date list' on the first message? I know it's a bit 'naughty' but when the list goes into the 'Skipping' void, we end up either having to ask for the list to be reposted, or load 1000+ messages and scrolling through.

Mark G, Monday, 30 April 2012 09:59 (eleven years ago) link

That's a thought...I'd rather not do it that way, but it's a thought. It's a bit more of a pain to edit posts than to submit them. I'll try to remember to keep an updated revised list on the outside of The Void, but if I forget and the list keeps dropping in, your suggestion is a good one.

(the list in progress)

Had a brief thought that a ballot poll of live albums might be interesting, but the results might be a little predictable. Whadda y'all think?

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 14:59 (eleven years ago) link

i don't think it'd be that predictable, actually, so long as the voting base is large enough that there's a diversity of opinion.

Five of the next six of these will be of extreme interest to me. Looking forward to a hot summer.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 15:09 (eleven years ago) link

Whoa, Neil Young is going to be a tough row to hoe.

grandavis, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 15:23 (eleven years ago) link

thankfully Bruce, Stax and Pink Floyd polls are spaced far enough apart so as not to kill me dead. But omg

Enter this thread in a spirit of good will or not at all, Morbs. Or, you know, whatever.

A bad pun is close enough. What musical ballot poll would tempt you to vote, Herr Doktor?

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 16:22 (eleven years ago) link

Arcade Fire

how's life, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 16:26 (eleven years ago) link

I am inexpert on most bands' oeuvres, even the ones I like. Also, I don't care to spend the time. I might vote on HuDu if I, you know, stop reviewing films.

Still have never heard the Grammy-winning AF album.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 16:30 (eleven years ago) link

I'd claim expertise on only one musical artist, and ain't no way in hell I'd start a ballot poll for him.

Donna Rouge, ABBA voting on Monday? Crüt said he's wrapping Depeche Mode results tomorrow.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:55 (eleven years ago) link

My ballot is ready to roll. Their catalogue is quite like Led Zep's, oddly, at least in length and self-containedness. Same string sound on the late stuff too.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 4 May 2012 14:59 (eleven years ago) link

ABBA is an interesting one. i think the only songs i've ever heard by them (which are pretty much all fantastic) are on the Gold compilation. and i think that has roughly 20 songs?

charlie h, Friday, 4 May 2012 15:05 (eleven years ago) link

can you change 51 (Steely Dan) to Bee [space] OK (like 37 New Order).

thanks

Bee OK, Saturday, 5 May 2012 05:53 (eleven years ago) link

Kinda want to run a Beastie Boys poll and maybe cut in line (after ABBA) if no one objects?

I was going to ask for someone to jump ahead--I can't start until school lets out at the end of June--so that would work out well for me.

paging donna rouge

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Saturday, 5 May 2012 13:07 (eleven years ago) link

lol just came to say a beastie poll is needed

but also it means i need to re-listen to those last two records so :/

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 5 May 2012 13:55 (eleven years ago) link

i give my blessing to doing a beasties poll first

madame boo berry (donna rouge), Saturday, 5 May 2012 16:44 (eleven years ago) link

Cool, thanks! I'll start a thread when crut is done with the DM countdown.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 5 May 2012 16:55 (eleven years ago) link

donna rouge, you still up for the ABBA poll after BB?

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Saturday, 5 May 2012 19:17 (eleven years ago) link

Thanks donna rouge and everybody else. I'll start a Beasties poll thread later this afternoon. :D

New Order at 37 seemed to be the perfect number, now it all feels discombobulated to me...

Bee OK, Sunday, 6 May 2012 05:12 (eleven years ago) link

Pot Leeedom (Leee), Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:32 (eleven years ago) link

i have a request: a (wmc?)-curated thread that contains nothing but the results to each poll and perhaps a link. cause they can be hard to find in a 5k-post results thread.

mookieproof, Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:54 (eleven years ago) link

Mookie, thanks for the reminder -- I do keep the list up, but forget to post it very often. Would it be worth a separate thread?

Yes: a thread with the final results of all the polls only (and no other comments) is a great idea. I look forward to somebody else making it. :-)
