Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 16:19 (twelve years ago) link

I ILXmailed him a couple of hours ago, and he's posted this morning on another thread. Maybe it's time for Lamp with the Paul Simon poll.

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

Nah, let the James Brown one play out first I think - my listening has felt a lot like homework over the past month or so and it'd be nice to have a break.

(trying hard to resist the urge to volunteer for a minor artist quickfire poll)

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

Autechre!

daschund derrida (Leee), Wednesday, 9 November 2011 04:49 (twelve years ago) link

Great to have that list, but should the "Fifties" music ballot be rendered also?

Mainly because the result (and the Spotify Playlist) are damn fine!

Hopefully someone else can take over the Kraftwerk poll for me when it comes up. Was looking forward to it, but not enough to put up with the bullshit harrassment I've been getting on this board.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 15 November 2011 23:29 (twelve years ago) link

harassment about the Kraftwerk poll?

I'm not an expert on them (Only really know Autobahn and after), but I'd take over for you if you don't want to do it when the time comes. Again, this and the Clash poll is sort of dependent on somebody sending me an e-mail about the particulars of how it's all done closer to the date.

encarta it (Gukbe), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 23:33 (twelve years ago) link

harrassment? wth?

GOIT BUZZ TOYS (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 23:39 (twelve years ago) link

Well, it'll be ages yet (until the Kraftwerk one)

Mark G, Tuesday, 15 November 2011 23:58 (twelve years ago) link

Eh, see the 2011 year end list making thread if you are that curious. Tbh, Im just generally put off by the current tone of ilx. That other thread is making it pretty clear that the unspoken rule is "don't be offended by insults", when imho, it should be "just don't insult other posters".

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 16 November 2011 00:11 (twelve years ago) link

can the jay-z poll be moved up in its place?

"just don't insult other posters"

What kind of utopian message board world did you reside in before arriving at ILX?

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 16 November 2011 00:38 (twelve years ago) link

It doesn't mean he has to like it.

Mark G, Wednesday, 16 November 2011 00:42 (twelve years ago) link

lol were you actually harrassed or was it just ilx?

GOIT BUZZ TOYS (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 16 November 2011 00:45 (twelve years ago) link

one month passes...

okay i'm good to start the Jacksons poll later this week.

Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 3 January 2012 17:39 (twelve years ago) link

Maybe wait until after the EOY polls?

hickory always flavours the wieners (NickB), Tuesday, 3 January 2012 17:40 (twelve years ago) link

hmmmmmmmmmmmm yeah good point. let's do that.

Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 3 January 2012 18:40 (twelve years ago) link

two weeks pass...

I know this is a little presumptuous given that I haven't held a poll myself...

But should we try doing Spotify playlists of the final polls? Or is that already happening?

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 19:12 (twelve years ago) link

people were already doing that, but the ILX crash appears to have killed these polls dead

“How you like that, Mr. Hitler!” (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 19:21 (twelve years ago) link

They're not dead, just resting. The James Brown results have gone awol, and voting for the next one is supposed to start once the 2012 poll is done with.

Cuthbert, Dibble & Grubb (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 17 January 2012 20:25 (twelve years ago) link

what he/she said ^

Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 17 January 2012 23:47 (twelve years ago) link

Ah, good to know that the artist's polls are coming back - I've been missing them. So the Jacksons are next? Is it only going to be about the Jackson 5 / Jacksons music, or also Michael / Janet / LaToya / etc. solo records?

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 09:01 (twelve years ago) link

everything. all of em. 3T if you like.

Jamie_ATP, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 12:40 (twelve years ago) link

Looking forward to the resumption of the artist polls. I'm guessing these may fall into a February through November timetable, leaving December and January for EOY voting and results?

Rotary Boy of the Month (WmC), Sunday, 29 January 2012 18:05 (twelve years ago) link

probably good to think of it that way, yeah

markarles (some dude), Sunday, 29 January 2012 18:07 (twelve years ago) link

Jamie, if you wanted to open the polls for the Jacksons, I don't think it would interfere with JFever's 2011 albums rollout.

Rotary Boy of the Month (WmC), Sunday, 29 January 2012 18:11 (twelve years ago) link

Will it interfere with the James Brown results though?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 29 January 2012 18:44 (twelve years ago) link

Sadly, Ismael, I don't think we're ever going to find out if you helped Living In America on its way to victory.

two lights crew (seandalai), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 00:20 (twelve years ago) link

I would love to do a disco singles poll, add me to the list.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 08:48 (twelve years ago) link

I was going to switch R Kelly for disco, Tuomas, you can have my slot

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 09:17 (twelve years ago) link

*SPOILER* I Feel Love wins that poll

Okay, thanks!

Tuomas, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 09:22 (twelve years ago) link

Ha xp, 'disco ex I Feel Love' is maybe the poll to do, it's true

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 09:23 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I think I might go for that, to keep the poll more exciting.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 09:27 (twelve years ago) link

Thought about this before, it will be lots of fun but how on earth are you going to separate disco from non-disco? Do you mean disco-as-musical-genre or "music played in dance clubs 1973-80"? Does James Brown count? Do Kraftwerk count?

two lights crew (seandalai), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 10:49 (twelve years ago) link

I would vote in a disco poll! I don't do these single-artist polls, really, mainly b/c I'm breadth over depth, partly b/c of poll fatigue, but I like the wider polls.

Actually, I've just noticed VU solo careers on the list, that sounds kind of tempting too.

emil.y, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 11:20 (twelve years ago) link

I specifically want it to be about classic disco (as a genre) released on 12" singles, so no proto-disco, or disco-influenced later genres such as hi-NRG, 80s house, filter house, etc. No James Brown (except for the few disco singles he released - check out "Original Disco Man"), no Kraftwerk, no Daft Punk. I'll probably allow early 80s boogie and italo to be included, because they're so close to classic disco, but IMO other disco-related stuff should be excluded.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 12:44 (twelve years ago) link

Good luck :) So we're not including anything released pre-1975 (or pre-1976 if it's restricted to commercially available 12-inches)? And no album tracks?

two lights crew (seandalai), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 12:57 (twelve years ago) link

I'm not trying to be negative btw, I would definitely vote in a disco poll!

two lights crew (seandalai), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 13:16 (twelve years ago) link

Hmm, now that I think of it, I'm not sure if it should be 12 inch singles only... There are some mid-70s tracks (some of which predate 1975) which weren't released as 12"s, but which count as disco. So I guess I should just trust people are able to distinguish between disco and non-disco, even if it can be hard sometimes.

And on that thought, I guess album tracks should be allowed, since the tracks that predate the 12" era often had their definite, long versions on albums.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 13:30 (twelve years ago) link

I'll vote in that, but my ballot will probably have a lot of boogie.
