Limp Bizkit had MTV and rock radio sewn up, but never really got top 40 burn iirc.

13. N Sync - "Bye Bye Bye"
― last night a bj saved my life (absolutely clean glasses), Saturday, 7 May 2011 19:33 (thirteen years ago) link
i'm looking at limp bizkit's wiki page and i'm shocked at how less popular they were than i thought. they never went platinum? "rollin" topped out at 65, "my way" at 75, and "nookie" at 80? why is my perception of their popularity so distorted?― the buttonmasher, the party crasher, the forget-my-lotion skin rasher (k3vin k.), Saturday, May 7, 2011 1:05 PM (2 hours ago)

after all the talk upthread about Coldplay etc. not being here because they were on the rock list i thought it went w/o saying that they were on another list (twice!): al ship's top 50 rock singles of the 00s -- which is your favorite?
it's extremely rare for any hard rock/nu-metal band to have top 40 hits no matter how big they are, unless it's w/ a power ballad (which the Bizkit didn't really do)

oh haha well there you go
i have no idea what makes something like that "rock" or "pop" or whatever, same with train who i also love

it usually depends on which chart a specific song charter or how high if it had cross format success

Pretty surprising how similar this list is to the one I would create, I count somewhere between 15 and 20 that would be in my own top 50 pop singles of the 00s. I actually voted for "Come Clean" here, though it's close between that, "Love at First Sight", and "Bye Bye Bye"

True, but I think they might've done a bit better if digital sales had existed when they were popular.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 10 May 2011 13:11 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, maybe
"Swing, Swing" was on my rock list, to kind of underline how ridiculous it is that it appeared on rock charts but "Move Along" did not.

i'll go to bat for a few of these, ranked favorites:
2. Kylie Minogue - "Love At First Sight" - awesome, one of her best4. Lady Gaga - "Bad Romance" - likewise13. N Sync - "Bye Bye Bye" - enjoy this a good deal50. N Sync - "Pop" - just a shade below "bye bye bye" but still good9. Madonna - "Don’t Tell Me" - like this alright, but not even close to a Madonna top 25
the rest of these are almost uniformly yawn/zzzzzz or total shit.. though to be fair, i've not heard maybe 10 of them
worst song here is probably dido "white flag"

really boring winners
"fuck outta here" because "white flag" is too low? surely that, it's a great song, and dido's calm demeanour belies what's actually a completely mental lyric

It's possibly the finest piece of disco-pop of the 00s, what is better than it in that vein?
― Tim F, Thursday, 19 May 2011 08:37 (twelve years ago) link
"come into my world" off the same album? britney's "anticipating"?

― Tim F, Thursday, 19 May 2011 09:15 (twelve years ago) link
I think there is a certain air of absolute joyful plenitude and completeness and can-this-be-happening ecstaticness that a lot of disco-pop/house-pop anthems aspire to and that "Love At First Sight" actually nails.
Something like "Come Into My World" is going for a different vibe of escapist dreaminess (closer to "Can't Get You Out Of My Head", though that's slightly different again).
