I'm confirming! I'm going to need some hand-holding running the thing (I heard there's a spreadsheet or something to make the tabulation easier? I am terrible at using Excel however), if someone doesn't mind helping me?

Mordy, Thursday, 26 July 2012 17:56 (eleven years ago) link

I'm excited that, after The Cure, I get to take a lengthy break from these. Y'all have fun with your polls I care very little about! I'll be back for The Boss.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:17 (eleven years ago) link

(note: I like Kate Bush, Hüsker Dü, Kraftwerk and The Who okay enough, but not enough to participate)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:18 (eleven years ago) link

Mordy, I'll email you the Excel file. I don't know anything about spreadsheets either, but Finefinemusic's notes in the file are pretty clear, so I was able to figure it out after a few minutes of staring at it and going 'wha?'

Neil Jung (WmC), Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:21 (eleven years ago) link

hmm... should we poll Peter Gabriel or would that just be me and Alfred, back and forth, forever?

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

As much as I love Peter Gabriel, he's not the most prolific dude in the game.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

by that, I mean we'd be working with a pretty shallow pool of material.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

seven studio albums, four soundtracks, at least two of which have tracks i could see getting votes, and a grab-bag of, like, covers and one-offs ("party man"!), so about as much material as e.g. Pulp, PJ Harvey, Roxy Music, The Clash, New Order, Saint Etienne etc etc

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:45 (eleven years ago) link

Point taken.

Realistically, though, all my votes are likely to come from five of his first six albums (and maybe his cover of "The Book of Love").

Should his years in Genesis be included?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 July 2012 22:47 (eleven years ago) link

just thinking out loud fwiw. my belly agrees that a PG poll would be sparsely attended.

genesis years would confuse things, I think, and should accrue to some future Genesis poll rather than a PG solo poll. I get why Roxy/Ferry got combined but genesis seems its own thing.

hey ppl, I'm checking in to confirm my Neptunes poll! I just haven't kept up with ILX for some time now (and recent polls didn't interest me that much), so thank you WmC very much for your email! just one q - when is (approx.) my poll going to have to start? I just don't really know how fast do these things run these days.

V79, Thursday, 26 July 2012 23:37 (eleven years ago) link

They're going about 2 weeks per poll right now, so probably the end of September? I can send you another reminder when we're about 2-3 weeks out from Neptunes if you'd like.

Neil Jung (WmC), Friday, 27 July 2012 00:46 (eleven years ago) link

I think a 'Genesis Family' poll could be good xp - Genesis, Gabriel & Collins solo work, Mike & The Mechanics, Philip Bailey (duet with Phil Collins), etc. I always like seeing completely different styles & eras competing. Maybe it covers too much ground, but there are enough mighty singles there to tempt the casual voter.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 27 July 2012 06:37 (eleven years ago) link

am I missing the Bob Dylan poll?

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Friday, 27 July 2012 06:47 (eleven years ago) link

no.53

Ismael Klata, Friday, 27 July 2012 07:03 (eleven years ago) link

You aren't missing the Talking Heads poll, however

Cure results in progress here! -- POLLography: The Cure poll results, ILM artist poll #23

Ismael, ready for Kate Bush?

Romney's Kitchen Nightmares (WmC), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 22:51 (eleven years ago) link

I think I'm gonna go ahead and bow out in advance for "Classic Rock Canon" - - the classic rock radio thread is reminding me how difficult it will be even to figure out the parameters...and more to the point, I'm about to go back to school and just don't know if I'll be swamped with work when my number gets called. Anybody else is welcome to the idea if they think they can make it work!

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 23:55 (eleven years ago) link

Classic rock stations add one new song to their playlists each year; it could also be postponed until you graduate, get your doctorate, get tenure, and write a few books. The results will be more or less the same.

clemenza, Thursday, 16 August 2012 00:23 (eleven years ago) link

I like the idea of that Classic Rock Canon poll, using the database from some dude's industry contact. Hope somebody will claim it.

Romney's Kitchen Nightmares (WmC), Thursday, 16 August 2012 00:31 (eleven years ago) link

Bumpin' for Ismael.

Romney's Kitchen Nightmares (WmC), Thursday, 16 August 2012 16:14 (eleven years ago) link

I'm here, matey. I'll probably put it up this evening, make sure the Cure one has proper momentum first.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 16 August 2012 17:09 (eleven years ago) link

i think i flaked out on ever sending casino my spreadsheets, but if anyone else wants to do it i'll send it to them. i may volunteer to run it down the road but i don't want to sign up for anything until after i've gotten through the Jay-Z poll.

some dude, Sunday, 19 August 2012 04:05 (eleven years ago) link

My Cure spreadsheet turned out pretty good, it cross refs against album lists and generates the text (position, name, points, votes, no. of first place votes) to c&p into the ILM thread. It's available to anyone who wants it, I'll put it in a dropbox folder.

Thinking Moka should do images for ALL the polls.

Seriously!

Romney's Kitchen Nightmares (WmC), Monday, 20 August 2012 00:18 (eleven years ago) link

btw i'd be more than willing to assist clemenza with ylt, assuming i'm alive in 2014

mookieproof, Monday, 20 August 2012 00:20 (eleven years ago) link

Sure, that'd be great. Same caveat--and if I don't make it, I'll leave a Top 30 as part of my will.

clemenza, Monday, 20 August 2012 03:27 (eleven years ago) link

hi can you put me on the list for "iggy pop"

flopson, Monday, 20 August 2012 14:03 (eleven years ago) link

Romney's Kitchen Nightmares (WmC), Monday, 20 August 2012 14:48 (eleven years ago) link

put me down for The Boo Radleys please.

that will mean i will do New Order (80's), Steely Dan(70's) and The Boo Radleys (90').

Bee OK, Thursday, 23 August 2012 02:22 (eleven years ago) link

I'll add you next time I post the full list. Shakey, if you want more separation between P-Funk and XTC, I'll put Bee at 67.

Do the Boo Radleys have a big enough discog for a ballot poll?

Bobby-fil-A (WmC), Thursday, 23 August 2012 02:31 (eleven years ago) link

yeah we have discussed this: Boo Radleys Tracks Poll - Interested or not?

they have 6 albums plus another 3 albums full of b-sides.

and Thanks WmC!

Bee OK, Thursday, 23 August 2012 02:33 (eleven years ago) link

Don't know if it has been done before but can I get in line to do an "Italo" poll?

daavid, Thursday, 23 August 2012 16:36 (eleven years ago) link

If anyone wants an in at #55, I think I'm going to back out of doing a Replacements poll.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 23 August 2012 16:40 (eleven years ago) link

uh oh, i guess this is my opportunity to make a todd akin joke with this song

Italo would be awesome btw

Cong rat ululations (seandalai), Thursday, 23 August 2012 16:42 (eleven years ago) link

Any objections to moving P-Funk to JF's vacated #55 spot, or would y'all rather I just moved everything up one notch?

I have no idea what Italo is but will add it after Boo Radleys.

Bobby-fil-A (WmC), Thursday, 23 August 2012 16:54 (eleven years ago) link

I'm doing a general disco poll, so the Italo one will probably have some overlap with it, but I've no problem with that.

Tuomas, Friday, 24 August 2012 07:14 (eleven years ago) link

New results thread means new voting thread! Tarfumes, are you ready for Maximum R&B?

Bobby-fil-A (WmC), Monday, 27 August 2012 21:37 (eleven years ago) link

wait I thought it was The Who next?

PLEASE TELL ME THE WHO IS NEXT
