I think it's a good idea to start the voting thread for the next poll while the results for the other are rolling... It's not hard to follow both threads, and some of them probaby don't even that much voter overlap. This way it doesn't take two years to finish all these polls.

Tuomas, Thursday, 8 March 2012 08:57 (twelve years ago) link

I do try to vote in most of them and I don't like the overlap so much - I end up researching Paul Simon instead of spending time with everyone else, digging Bowie.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 8 March 2012 09:41 (twelve years ago) link

think there will be some great disco made in the next two years fwiw

You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God (crüt), Saturday, 10 March 2012 08:38 (twelve years ago) link

it's weird to me that people care so much whether we rush through all these polls in the next six months or if it takes TWO WHOLE YEARS GOSH

Pato The Cape GOAT (some dude), Saturday, 10 March 2012 11:36 (twelve years ago) link

like, you'll just fucking die if you don't know ILM's favorite Tom Waits songs by November, oh no

We should be so lucky. (/morbs)

Carlos Pollomar (WmC), Saturday, 10 March 2012 15:55 (twelve years ago) link

Is anyone gonna do a Roxy poll, then?

Iago Galdston, Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:24 (twelve years ago) link

it's weird to me that people care so much whether we rush through all these polls in the next six months or if it takes TWO WHOLE YEARS GOSH

a lot of people's ilx contracts run out this year and will not be spending time posting thereafter

desperado, rough rider (thomp), Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:29 (twelve years ago) link

charlie h, were you volunteering to do Roxy Music?

Carlos Pollomar (WmC), Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:45 (twelve years ago) link

This is a strange question, but I was wondering if I could try a poll for a band outside of the list, just to practice.

I've got a band in mind that no one in their right mind would ever want to volunteer for. More for fun than for realz.

pplains, Saturday, 10 March 2012 17:02 (twelve years ago) link

I just don't want to hit the Hüsker Dü poll as my first one and fuck everything up.

pplains, Saturday, 10 March 2012 17:02 (twelve years ago) link

I guess? My only worry would be poll fatigue if a lot of people were working on Paul Simon (or the Stones) and comedy films and your poll all at the same time. But I'm just the list updater, not the permission giver.

If you want, I could send you the Zeppelin ballots so you could get comfortable with the data entry process.

Carlos Pollomar (WmC), Saturday, 10 March 2012 17:18 (twelve years ago) link

It's easy enough to do with just pen & paper if you don't want to complicate things

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 10 March 2012 17:28 (twelve years ago) link

I don't have to do it right this second.

I appreciate the offer of the Zep ballots, but knowing all the outcomes could take away the "joy of learning" for me.

pplains, Saturday, 10 March 2012 21:05 (twelve years ago) link

i would volunteer to do Roxy, but i'm not great with the formatting of these things. that said, i should probably learn. put me down. :)

rogermexico, ready for Rolling Stones balloting next week?

Carlos Pollomar (WmC), Thursday, 15 March 2012 15:39 (twelve years ago) link

I'm happy to take over the Stones poll if rogermexico doesn't show up.

ArchCarrier, Sunday, 18 March 2012 14:08 (twelve years ago) link

Cool! I don't want to count him out, though -- he has posted some over the last week. I'll email him.

Ooh, a stones poll! That'll be good.

Mark G, Monday, 19 March 2012 14:19 (twelve years ago) link

I got email back from rogermexico this morning, and he will be running the Stones poll. I recommended a Wednesday start but it's up to him. That's going to be a tough ballot to cut down to 20.

any major prude will tell you (WmC), Monday, 19 March 2012 14:23 (twelve years ago) link

Naah, I'm pondering if there's any tracks going to be on mine that aren't on Decca.

(ans: A couple, a couple. Four, maybe)

Mark G, Monday, 19 March 2012 14:27 (twelve years ago) link

guess i'm gonna smile and ignore this thread until #21. have fun guys and gals.

Thinking about taking Ween at #49. Not a huge discography but oh the fun to be had.

In the meantime, Stones results are go!

so far i've voted for all but 2 of the polls on the numbered list (exceptions were Boys both of the Beach and Pet Shop variety). has anyone voted in all of them?

some dude, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 03:06 (twelve years ago) link

no wait 3, didn't vote in GBV either

some dude, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 03:06 (twelve years ago) link

I've skipped 4 -- PSB, Timbaland, GBV, Pulp

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 03:12 (twelve years ago) link

i only voted in the beatles thread. i regret not voting stones or paul simon (the latter of which i could've done a deeper cut ballot). i should do these more.

Mordy, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 03:13 (twelve years ago) link

I still can't believe or understand that I missed the Beatles poll. Like...WTF. I barely vote in any of these because I never feel I know the discography well enough to be informed, but I live and breathe Beatles music, that would have bee so satisfying. Oh well.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 03:55 (twelve years ago) link

It's actually pretty huge... They have just as many non-album tracks, if not more... I would be psyched as hell for this.

ha whoops, just emailed you before I refreshed this thread. I'd say anytime you're ready -- today, tomorrow, over the weekend, you name it.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:48 (twelve years ago) link

No worries. I'll see about tomorrow. Was wondering if Good Friday would be problem if people have the day off.

Mike Love Costume Jewelry on Etsy (C. Grisso/McCain), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:55 (twelve years ago) link

I'd imagine it would be constantly bumped by people who want to talk about The Kinks, so start date matters very little.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 April 2012 22:00 (twelve years ago) link

Yeh, start date is less crucial than closing date/amt of time polls are open.

A lot of early stuff not available on US Spotify apparently...? Off to the Youtubemobile, then.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Thursday, 5 April 2012 22:02 (twelve years ago) link
