amy looks like a combo of dame darcy and s. clay wilson, somehow. not in a rip-off-y way, just cool like that.

i mean if you replaced every xkcd character with flowerpot catboard and naked winehouse that alone would improve that comic about a million percent. not even joking.

I have never seen any of Sophie Crumb's stuff. Maybe I should change that, eh? tbh I am pretty poor and I just kind of read whatever comics/graphic novels the library gets in.

yer winehouse looks a lot like her stuff.this is a solid, lengthy and reasonably priced appraisal of her work:http://www.amazon.com/Sophie-Crumb-Evolution-Crazy-Artist/dp/0393079961/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289423206&sr=8-1i had some conversations with her via email when i first moved into nyc; she was very friendly and surprised anyone was curious about her work at all.

Trying to duplicate Abbott's original list upthread, to my own very special effect. I misjudged the space, so the pie is terribly close to the scissors.

Finally, I had this idea for a strip that revolved around a sports talk radio station. One of my characters was going to be based on Houston Nutt:

i think that is it. every suggestion on this thread has now been drawn by somebody.national draw a satisfying cartoon month is a success!
that sports radio dogs is a good premise BTW -- actualize it!

Houston Mutt?
― browns zero loss (brownie), Thursday, 11 November 2010 19:54 (thirteen years ago) link
Austin Mutt. I hadn't even thought of what his name could be.
I tried out the series for awhile, but then put it down. I'll go though phases of drawing stuff like this once a year or so, and then… I'll lose it somehow.
One year, February 29, 2000, I got in this huge fight with a Kinko's worker and didn't draw for another five years.
I sound really flighty when I type this out, but I swear I've been doing other things too!

what happened to the storyline in the sketch? mutt seems to be making a high-power sports-agent type deal, then hand-holding a player.
― Philip Nunez, Thursday, 11 November 2010 20:17 (thirteen years ago) link
Wasn't much of a storyline as much as it was the different shades of crab-pinching and elastic facial expressions he could do.
