I'll bite. SVIIB tend to have pretty OTM support acts as far as my tastes are concerned.

How the f*ck are they from Saratoga nowheretownfromhell? This is like UK Funk-gaze.

Sort of.

I'm liking this. It's a nice sort of nu-gaze-tronica.

All youse who were into Memory Tapes and The XX and Telepathe, you should be getting into this. Not that they sound like any of those bands specifically, but it's that kind of voibe.

I'm lookin' at you, PlazzT. ;-)

Haha yeah i was gonna say. It kinda sounds like how XX were initially described

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Thursday, 24 September 2009 17:24 (fourteen years ago) link

well, I bought the album. it had my name all over it.

(though, kinda like the XX, I far prefer when the girl sings to when the boy sings.)

Haha I'm watching them wrap up their opening set now for School of Seven Bells and the XX came to mind as well, in terms of genre recombination. Quite good show, very personable folks from what I can tell!

I thought you would like them, Ned.

...and the wizard blew his horn (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 6 October 2009 09:44 (fourteen years ago) link

Ned's enthusiastic Tweets were enough for me to check them out ... and lo and behold, I love. Predictably.

Well there you go. They photograph well too, I found:

So far, "Fall in Love" is prob one of my favorite alt indie singles in the past few years

same here

The Greta Gerwig In The Sky (some dude), Saturday, 22 March 2014 11:09 (ten years ago) link

'Howling at the Moon' is pretty great too

calstars, Saturday, 22 March 2014 12:15 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, lately I've really been getting into "Fall in Love" – the "Yes, I'm Ready" sample is brilliant

Frontier Psychiatrist, Saturday, 22 March 2014 14:17 (ten years ago) link

"Black Out Days" still my favorite by a fair margin, but definitely a solid album.

Vinnie, Saturday, 22 March 2014 23:54 (ten years ago) link

"Howling at the Moon" is my favorite, too.

Wahaca Flocka Flame (DJP), Sunday, 23 March 2014 01:41 (ten years ago) link

"i don't blame you" came on my player and i was thinking it was some crazy grandaddy song sheesh.

Among my fave albums so far from this year. Great discovery.

i want to hear the synth bassline on fall in love so loud that it makes fillings fall out

Hunt3r, Thursday, 24 April 2014 17:00 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I'm really loving this record. Didn't have much high hopes for the album based on the Flaming Lips and Big Boi collabs I'd heard (hadn't heard the first record), but this is just wonderful.

It didn't take long for my local alt-rock station to drop it off their playlist but Fall in Love is song of the year for me...

still can't make it loud enough, i swoon every time tho

somehow avoided hearing this until the past week when my band's sometimes vocalist recommended them (she's a big kate bush and 80's pop fan); not exactly what I was expecting but Voices is a really awesome record.

I listened to these loads a couple of years ago and forgot about them! Thanks for the reminder

kinder, Saturday, 18 June 2016 22:13 (seven years ago) link

er I mean in that I'm going to actually go and download some stuff and listen to it properly

this new album is fine, lots of griping about selling out but they do bombastic over the top pop pretty well.

akm, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 04:38 (seven years ago) link

saw them live a couple weeks ago, listened to the albums for a while before going

it was good! i wish the dude sang on fewer songs. sorry, guy.

Thank you for reminding me to look for this

¶ (DJP), Thursday, 27 October 2016 17:54 (seven years ago) link

some fans seem very angry that she is now sexy looking.

akm, Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:25 (seven years ago) link

Hmm. I don't really know what anyone in the band looks like; I just like the two albums I've heard.

¶ (DJP), Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:30 (seven years ago) link

idk I was with the olds and were far enough back that I could see them performing and the visuals

mh 😏, Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:57 (seven years ago) link

I stand back far enough for the band to not be distracted by how sexy I may be

mh 😏, Thursday, 27 October 2016 18:58 (seven years ago) link

that's very considerate of you

good god, I knew they went with a full studio collaboration environment major label style but the credits on some of these songs really get into the "room of heavyweight songwriters/producers" territory

I keep listening to "Run Run Blood" and the credits are

Sarah Barthel / Josh Carter / Eric Frederic / Terius Nash / Christopher Stewart / Dan Wilson

mh 😏, Friday, 4 November 2016 02:09 (seven years ago) link

i dont' know who all those people are except for her so I'll take your word for it

akm, Friday, 4 November 2016 02:33 (seven years ago) link

first two are the band
Eric Fredric aka Ricky Reed:
Ricky Reed has received RIAA platinum records for two Jason Derulo singles: Talk Dirty ft. 2 Chainz (4x Platinum) & Wiggle ft. Snoop Dogg (2x Platinum).

Terius Nash aka The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, if you'be heard any pop radio in the last decade, you're familiar
and Dan Wilson wasn't immediately recognizable but he's a go-to songwriter, apparently responsible for his band Semisonic's inescapable "Closing Time," one of the scourges of my high school photography darkroom time in that the radio station would play it at least twice per hour

mh 😏, Friday, 4 November 2016 04:33 (seven years ago) link

catchy song think tank going on in that studio

mh 😏, Friday, 4 November 2016 04:37 (seven years ago) link

I am not gonna lie, I would kill to be in a position to work with ppl like that

¶ (DJP), Friday, 4 November 2016 10:01 (seven years ago) link

I know, right?

mh 😏, Friday, 4 November 2016 12:23 (seven years ago) link

two years pass...

in retrospect I don't think that album holds up nearly as well as the earlier ones. also I liked her fake english accent on Voices and now she seems to have shed that.

anyway I gather a new one is coming as they have a tour this summer
