Not to call them shark-jumpers, but two things that hurt R&B in a big way in the very early '80s were the resegregation of Top 40 radio and the prodcution styles of Luther Vandross and Narada Michael Walden.

The person who's threatened to kill me on the most occasions is a dude who had a Myspace where he raged against "bullshit mainstream mass-produced culture" and talked about how he only watched movies and listened to music that were challenging and provocative. BMRC were his favourite band, I think his favourite film was Amelie.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 15:35 (sixteen years ago) link

should i know what a BMRC is

bell_labs, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

They're like every other band from 2001 you've forgotten about

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 15:37 (sixteen years ago) link

The B stands for "Bowel." I'll say no more.

kenan, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 15:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 15:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Not guilty here! God, Jon!

All I'm listening to these days is harry warren tunes, so maybe I shouldn't criticise ANY other music that ppl like, though.

After the band dropped Elektra Records, Spacehog signed with upstart label Artemis Records and released its third album, The Hogyssey, on April 10, 2001. The album continued the band's neo-glam approach and featured the singles "I Want To Live" and "At Least I Got Laid", as well as a funkified version of Richard Strauss's "Also sprach Zarathustra".

bell_labs, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 16:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I read that as Lili Taylor for a sec, and I felt really, really disappointed in her.

Liv T is apparently totally amazingly beaut in person, and also very very nice. I wish her better than scrawny brit rocker but hey, what can you do.
