dyao what the hell is that aeropress bullshit

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:12 (fourteen years ago) link

it makes a good cuppa (little bit thin cause you're pressing all the oils out. still hell of a lot stronger than drip). it's really big among coffee geeks. some call it the poor man's Clover.

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:13 (fourteen years ago) link

don't rush on the moka, harbl, it's better to dream about a thing than to get it and find out it's a fizzer.

estela, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:14 (fourteen years ago) link

that's like my life motto estela lol

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:14 (fourteen years ago) link

xp does it make both brewed and espresso--how does it do that?

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:14 (fourteen years ago) link

despite what they'll tell you, it still doesn't rate against a properly drawn espresso. but it's a pretty cheap way to get high quality coffee at home. works well with a blade grinder, since you can just chop the beans up until they're all dust. xp

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:15 (fourteen years ago) link

know what iirc one of the best cups of coffee i ever had was french press w/ a blade grinder. so it's obv my fault

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:16 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean, i didn't make it. it had cardamom and cacao nibs ground with the coffee. i stll think baout it

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:16 (fourteen years ago) link

mmmmm

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:17 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe you should try adding cardamom and cacao nibs to your current beans then

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:18 (fourteen years ago) link

i do sometimes!

i have a french press and espresso machine and burr grinder but here are the things that drive me crazy about coffee:

bean freshness--i am just one dude and don't go through shit fast enough
keeping everything clean is maddening

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:20 (fourteen years ago) link

that all sounds overwhelming, perhaps you should take up tea bags instead.

estela, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:25 (fourteen years ago) link

that sounds snide, perhaps i should take up stfuing instead.

estela, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:31 (fourteen years ago) link

hahaha i mean i'm just bitchin i recognize that these are my problems not the world's

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:33 (fourteen years ago) link

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:49 (fourteen years ago) link

call all destroyer, how many beans are you buying at a time? I'm lucky in that I've always lived next to a local roaster who does things up for me in 1/4 or 1/2 lb quantities.

as for keeping everything clean it's a lost cause :o(

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:50 (fourteen years ago) link

that's awesome--if i could buy 1/4 lb at a time i probably would brew a lot more coffee than i do.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:53 (fourteen years ago) link

what type of container do u keep it in

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:58 (fourteen years ago) link

I used to store it in one of those cute airtight glass jars with the orange rubber seal. in a dark cupboard, naturally.

this thread has inspired me to finally pick up some more coffee. a good yirgacheffe, or maybe mocca harrar.

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 02:18 (fourteen years ago) link

i had a plastic tupperware-like thing; also just the regular coffee bag thoroughly folded and tied shut

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 02:30 (fourteen years ago) link

"beer is cheaper than coffee" where, in backwards land? Coffee is like 2-3 dollars a cup, beer is minimum 5 or 6 dollars a schooner/pint.

my never fail method is usually: pour beans into grinder til approximately full. grind. dump into filter basket. add water btw 6 and 7 c line on pot. brew. sometimes i go a lil stronger. i am not allowed to make the coffee at my grandparents' house bc they use like half the coffee i do and make gross brown water and think i am trying to poison them if i make it the right way.

tehresa, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:29 (fourteen years ago) link

is the bag made of paper? brown paper is still permeable and lets oxygen in; and even with tightly wrapped bags made of foil or plastic there's still some air seepage. tupperware is fine, if it has the rubber lining at the top to form an airtight seal. I usually get about 2 weeks, starting from the roast date, out of my beans. xxxp

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 04:33 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah. i put about 3/4 of the grounds in one of those airtight jars with a latch and the rest in the bag just because the jar's not big enough. wouldn't use the bag for more than a few days or coffee will start to taste like blah.

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 11:31 (fourteen years ago) link

is it gay to drink decaf?

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:42 (fourteen years ago) link

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:43 (fourteen years ago) link

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:43 (fourteen years ago) link

i have low blood pressure mr. que

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:44 (fourteen years ago) link

oh

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:45 (fourteen years ago) link

sorry!

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:45 (fourteen years ago) link

I'd drink decaf if it didn't taste like crap... if it weren't for worries of caffeine addiction I'd probably drink 10 cups a day

you can lower the caffeine content by shortening the brewing time

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:48 (fourteen years ago) link

also, by using a darker roast

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:48 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost yeah how insensitive of you. maybe i will go buy a pound, i can't decide. i just want more more more!

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:49 (fourteen years ago) link

i already use a pretty dark roast but i don't want to shorten the brewing time. see this is gonna turn into another 100 posts about how confused i am

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:49 (fourteen years ago) link

what does doctor harbl say about more more more

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:53 (fourteen years ago) link

hmm some methods naturally have shorter brewing times - like the aeropress above

I heard that they found a coffee bean with a naturally low caffeine content (less than 1%) - dunno where they're at in terms of bringing it to market or as to how it tastes

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:53 (fourteen years ago) link

how do you like it how do you like it

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:53 (fourteen years ago) link

how did coffee go this morning harbl

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:56 (fourteen years ago) link

it was good. zeke's royal blue is great. but i am still smelling the dregs at the bottom of the cup next to me and that's why i want more but i am kinda wired!

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 14:58 (fourteen years ago) link

nope drinking decaf is gay. sorry.

tehresa, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 15:12 (fourteen years ago) link

i got some. and i ground it myself. it's too fine but i am using drip this time so we'll see what happens

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 15:33 (fourteen years ago) link

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 15:34 (fourteen years ago) link

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 15:39 (fourteen years ago) link

steamed hams (harbl), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 15:39 (fourteen years ago) link
