some 2001-registered dude on SRK posted a now-deleted thread saying they're going to add 10 new characters in SFIV: Dash and they'll announce it at or slightly after TGS:

SF3: makoto, ibuki, dudley
SF2: deejay, t hawk
Alpha: cody, guy, adon

... and then two brand new characters.

cozwn, Monday, 21 September 2009 15:48 (fourteen years ago) link

the console sf4 has a ton of characters already, it's hard to say if more will improve the game.

adon, deejay, dudley: yay! (dudley was hinted on twitter i think)
t hawk: why? (not a surprise, I know they found some of his code in the first sf4, but still)

abanana, Monday, 21 September 2009 16:00 (fourteen years ago) link

Ibuki is enhhh but I will pay lots of money for Adon if that is true; it is imperative they get whatever shrieking lunatic did his voice work in SFA though.

Eugene Sander-Rygar (MPx4A), Monday, 21 September 2009 16:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Seth is a huge pain at first but once you realize his patterns he's pretty beatable -- gotta block every time except for the few openings where you can jump in/sweep/go in for a combo. He is basically a weaker version of Gill from SF3, even looking basically the same and having a lot of his moves (now THAT dude was a pain in the ass). Then again it might just seem this way in retrospect after having to beat him 25 damn times to unlock Seth.

Does the thread deletion imply the information was true or is it more likely because he didn't post it in the general SF IV: Dash predictions thread, or some SRK forum junk like that? If they actually do add ten characters, I hope they have the guts to remove some of the WW/CE characters and give the mid/low-tier characters better movesets. Frankly, I want to see NEW characters, anyway.

from iplaywinner.com:

I'll be honest, I've been pretty tight lipped about what I know when it comes to the next installment of Street Fighter IV, but these new rumors popped up today on NeoGAF via the Capcom Unity forums. This is the first I've heard of any of these new additions to the game, so who knows if its all true. Most of it doesn't seem that far fetched though considering what we already know.

Check it out:

Another rumors and info from other SFIV forums according to Ultima:

- Guile has Sonic Hurricane

- Everyone has two Ultras at once. No selection. Commands don't overlap.

- One super, two ultras. Except Sakura, who has Shinkuu Hadoken back for 2 and 2. All 3S characters have all three of their supers, except one is super and two are ultra.

- Rufus can cancel-break the last hit of Spectacle Romance, or the launch kick of Space Opera Symphony.

- Guy has his chains

- Dudley now has ten target combos, up from nine in 3S.

- Cody is the only character with an Alpha Counter. Yes, he has the knife.

- Makoto has her super as Tanden Renki. May be possible to activate with an Ultra charged to commence the rape time.

- Gen gets a new air Ultra. He still doesn't hagve his chains back at this point.

- Juri's top may bear a vague resemblance to Shiki, with a bit of Hinata hair.

- Expect the return of the many familiar supers, and a few new ones like Metsu
Shoryuken. Return of Kikosho, Sonic Hurricane, Denjin(Gouken), Tiger Cannon.

- Expect sick names like Breathless, Yoga Shangri-La, Psycho Punisher and Demon Armageddon.

- Expect a lot of air activated ultras, i.e; Siberian Blizzard, Gief's ****ing air 720. Yes, you read that correctly.

- Return of the bonus stage."

More than that, here is a separate forum post with some similar information. I'd say it's safe to say that we can at least expect two ultras and one super in the next installment of the game.

All rumoured returners from ST(DJ,Hawk), Alpha(Final Fighters, Adon) and 3S(Dud, Mak, Ibu) are true.

Everyone has 2 Ultras.

Hakan - arabic grappler obsessed with oil.
Juri - evil asian girl fighter working for Seth.

some ppl have played this updated version and one was quoted as saying "It doesn't play anything like IV currently does."

Announcement should be made at TGS and the Japanese SF4 blog later this week.

Also, they're calling it SSF4.

believe me or not, but mark this post for tomorrow/late tonight.

Fubarduck on NeoGAF is claiming virtually everything that has been stated is true. If you don't know who Fubarduck is, I will say that if there was ever a credible source, he's the one.

Hopefully we will see images and/or video later today at TGS!

...more details from NeoGAF:

Dudley has new chains (10, up one from 3s).

Cody's knife and such are in. My source seems to think one of his Ultras requires his knife to be in hand.

More details from Fubarduck -

Apparently the new game engine feature is called "Tadan Saving" (多段セービング) in Japanese which implies a multi-hitting or multiple-level focus attack.

Be interesting to see how much of this post was true and how much of it was bullshit a few months from now. I'm leaning more towards the latter, skeptical that Capcom would bounce back so far towards hardcore gameplay.

Nhex, Thursday, 24 September 2009 21:29 (fourteen years ago) link

Old but I missed it - protips + autotune a surprisingly winning combination, the Blanka one's not as good tho

If the Super Street Fighter IV news is true, and it seems like at least the gist of it is, I'm guessing it will come out in arcades first, maybe in early 2010? Then come to consoles in the summer/fall?

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 25 September 2009 03:35 (fourteen years ago) link

additonal characters??
Alpha: cody, guy, adon
-my 3 favorie alpha characters

I would love to see them added. I haven't played SFIV yet however. Watching the video upthread made me remember how annoying it is dodging a constant barricade of fireballs (reminding me of Sagat).

anyone? anyone? euler? (cozwn), Sunday, 27 September 2009 12:01 (fourteen years ago) link

I have this nagging feeling they're not going to fix the major issues (inconsistent and frustrating online experience, gameplay is too slow/floaty/Defensive) but I'm still looking forward to it. This time, though maybe I'll more strongly avoid going online (since at heart I really do like the game) - 75% of the hate in the love/hate perspective definitely comes from that.

Although, if there's really only two new characters and like six to eight returning characters (on top of the existing 25) you can stick a preemptive picardforehead.gif in this thread.

I'm wondering if she's related to the fighting dolls from Alpha 3 (Juli, Juni, Cammy), though she looks totally different, they do have her fighting Bison in the screenshot.

Despite having already put in over 100 hours on SFIV, I find myself strangely unexcited about more (for now)...

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 28 September 2009 18:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I think a part of it is that like Nhex said above, while I really like Street Fighter IV a lot, I've grown to really dislike the experience of playing it online, and unfortunately none of my local gamer friends took the time to learn how to play, so it kind of feels like a dead end.

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 28 September 2009 18:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah I think I maybe just stopped playing this because it stressed me out

http://tgs.gamespot.com/story/6230625/super-street-fighter-iv-impressions-first-look

quick recap
-everyone is returning + roughly 8 new playables (inc. returning and original chars), they're not all decided yet
-second ultras confirmed
-new online system, at least they're trying i guess
-have to buy a new disc, but it'll be cheaper than full price
-some kind of bonus for original owners of SFIV (my guess is alt. costumes)

and lol

Briefly went back to IV tonight after work for the first time in months. I'd already forgotten what a great looking game this is! There's just something about the style, animation and action that really makes it stand above the other HD fighting games. I really love it. I hope for Super Street Fighter IV they're really thinking about how to improve the online experience, as I've really just lost all desire to ever play this online again at this point. But the foundation is so solid, it's exciting to think the game might shortly be getting even better.

Modes are fine, but I hope they're improving the matchmaking somehow. Lack of modes never bugged me, as a fight is a fight, but trying to get into a match was sometimes a pain in the ass

I can't see, is Seth already on there? Does that mean there are four new characters to come?

Also, is Hugo in a background the first time they've acknowledged the existence of Street Fighter III in any way?

MPx4A, Saturday, 19 December 2009 23:53 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, if that that leak from a few months continues to be true (and everything else has been right so far), the last four are the new character Hakan, and Dudley, Makoto and Ibuki from 3S.

Nhex, Sunday, 20 December 2009 16:37 (fourteen years ago) link

I have to admit, articles like this warm my heart as it conveys the great feelings and experience of playing SF, beyond mere nostalgia. This is written by the guy who interviewed Daigo last month.

Recently I've been playing it again, as this enthusiastic kid I met playing this summer online has been getting into it as a regular sparring partner - it's been fun. I'm glad SFIV came along to bring another generation into the genre.

Okada:
While there weren't any specific requests for a particular stage, we heard that the bonus stages were popular overseas so they wanted them back. As for why, we felt that it gave players a real way to experience their strength. Breaking up the cars and the barrels is a way of showcasing your Street Fighter strength. At least, I think so...

As cars and barrels are real objects that we know, it adds to our feeling of awe.

Okada:
Bonus stages give for some degree of interaction with real objects. For those of us who live in the real world, it shows us how much stronger these guys are than we are. As there are many people overseas who love real-world objects, this is something that will let them enjoy the game more.

The fundamental moves are the same and/or very similar to what is in Super Turbo. In some cases they've been simplified and the window for inputs have generally been increased. There have been some additions, like back dash and the focus attack and ultras, and some new characters, but yeah, if you were good at Street Fighter II, you should be able to pick up SF IV with little problem.
