i just got a BRAXEticket. maybe the key will magically not be horrible.

geeta my recommendation is that you should come! i dont really have a more convincing argument than that tho.

midnight def isnt too late to come tho. might be worth getting a ticket before, or getting someone to buy one for you, or getting on the guestlist

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 07:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Kat and I have Braxe tickets, and I can't make the next weekend, so I am v.much in favour of Geeta coming along for the French mentalism.

As for preclubpub, the King Charles I on Northdown Street has always looked like a decent if small boozer, but I've never actually been in there. The Driver on Cally Road looks tolerable as well.

I am going to Braxe and would like to meet up w/you all, even though I know none of you. If you come up with any super secret plans that are not on this thread could someone email me plz!

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:28 (seventeen years ago) link

my secret plan as yet:

ARRIVE to the L*D*N 8 pm

EAT: possibles -
hare & tortoise
veggie indian place
ED CHOICE
?

then proceed to AN OTHER location for drink, before going in.

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 08:45 (seventeen years ago) link

patrick, i'll be emailing lots of people re pubs at some point, prob tomorrow, does that there email address work?

i'm not a fan of this braxe/justice split at all...

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, if you'd actually bought a ticket for BRAXE like we'd all agreed...

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:22 (seventeen years ago) link

not got a ticket/guestlist for Braxe yet - waiting to see if i am fit enough on the night. hope to be but it's touch and go, Maniche.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:22 (seventeen years ago) link

i was the one who told people about JUSTICE first!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:26 (seventeen years ago) link

I am in for a meet up beforehand. The whole of Kings Cross is pretty grim for pubs though. Let me know where you choose. Ideally somehwere open past 11.30 as well, I'd like to get down to Canvas/Key about 1ish.

rchinn (rchinn), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, the email works. Thanks.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:32 (seventeen years ago) link

that bar on York Way is OK - keep forgetting it's name.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 13:10 (seventeen years ago) link

ok! i will swing by braxe (can i just buy a ticket at the door?) but i will likely leave early. what bar/pub are you guys meeting at beforehand? the earliest i could get over there would be around midnight...

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 17:50 (seventeen years ago) link

If we plan to all meet in a bar around midnight that would be ideal then. No-name bar on York Way then?

rchinn (rchinn), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 18:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I was thinking closer to 10ish really, possibly earlier, as I'd quite like a chat with the Canvas kids first, and we don't know for a fact that this bar will be open. Anyone know what it's called? Is there a cut-off time after which tickets don't guarantee entry?

I am vaguely tempted to find some way of ploughing right through in order to watch the last game of the season but I expect this is BEYOND FOOLHARDY. And impossible, as anyone who's seen me past about 6.30am will agree.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 18:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Also Sieve - is it the Masque Bar you're referring to? That looks like as good a place as any to meet up.

(Also people we don't know, post one picture of yourselves)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 18:45 (seventeen years ago) link

no it's not that one, it's a bit further up i think, closer to The Key.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 4 May 2006 08:55 (seventeen years ago) link

it's The Lincoln Lounge, although it is a bit on the small side and may be busy full of other Key-goers.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 4 May 2006 08:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Either will do me fine to be honest.

I have booked my Braxe ticket. Yay.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 4 May 2006 09:14 (seventeen years ago) link

i'll email people about the lincoln lounge.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 4 May 2006 11:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Well see you in the Lincoln Lounge then.

rchinn (rchinn), Thursday, 4 May 2006 12:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I love it when a plan comes together. Except the main bit of the plan, which we're still working on.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 4 May 2006 12:09 (seventeen years ago) link

I will see you at the Lincoln Lounge then. I have no photo to post but am five eleven, short black hair, crappy beard, black rimmed glasses and I'll wear my white hoodie. I'll be with my brother.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:10 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, photo, um, check my myspace.

i'm six one, dumb looking, faux blonde-hair, likes walks on beaches, chinese food and dancing with sycophants in the DJ box.

rchinn (rchinn), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:59 (seventeen years ago) link

didn't get the blag in time for this so will be queuing for a ticket later probably, but earlier than Geeta?

10pm in the Lincoln Lounge seems good to me tho.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Saturday, 6 May 2006 10:03 (seventeen years ago) link

so i went, briefly, it was good. i missed lincoln, arriving around 1.30am, caught the random french entourage on th decsk, and uffie banging out some sweet raps. all in all pretty goo
d

rchinn (rchinn), Sunday, 7 May 2006 04:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Justice / Oizo & co was fantastic in parts, possibly the most rediculous number of dj's I've ever seen in a booth at one time. Though possibly Sebastian / Kavinsky were kinda more fun at musichall last weekend - mostly for the lack of skitzo dancer tonight, Oizo was... kinda disapointing, went from too deepy stuff to banging without stopping inbetween?!

How was the key? Heard it was a kinda poor turnout? Oh, the our disco thing continues this afternoon at the lock tavern from 3 / 4ish with whoever's still standing from earlier...

MattR (MattR), Sunday, 7 May 2006 06:10 (seventeen years ago) link

oof. sorry i didnt make it, dudes! i was so exhausted last night after the flight from new york. how was braxe?

geeta (mark s), Sunday, 7 May 2006 06:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I thought the first hour or so of Braxe was AMAZING. Proper "THIS IS MY FIRST DJ SET EVER, I AM GOING TO ROCK THIS PARTY!" type set. Starting off with LFO and Body Language and then going full-on hands-in-the-air filterdisco was exactly what I wanted. Like being deluged in sugar, but proper high quality French pastry.

Then Cagedbaby came on and killed the voibe almost immediately - total loss of focus, bad Bloc Party remixes and so forth. There was some good Get Physical type stuff on in the other room, but it was empty, except for the bit when those breakdancing dudes were in there.

So it kind of sucked - so we left, tried to get into Canvas and failed, but they let us back into the Key for free so it was alright. And the last hour or so of Cagedbaby was great - Sky Was Pink, Rej, Zdarlight and loads of other stuff I didn't know. Yay.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 7 May 2006 18:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, Cagedbaby is the worst dressed person I have ever seen. Like Bill Bailey made up by Paris Hilton or something.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 7 May 2006 18:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Braxe didn't actually seem to do a lot. Kris Menace played LFO, Body Language and others for first 20 mins or so. You knew Braxe was there when he dropped a dirty, pulsating rework of 'Music Sounds Better With You' to good effect, and this after an epic 'Discopolis'. They played an absolutely fantastic track at some point inbetween which started off like frenchified mid-late 90s mad jacking techno and progressed into more modernised teutonic/trentemoller-esque thing. I wonder if i will find out what it was...they dropped in Size 9's 'I'm Ready' too which was a bit of a surprise, and not necessarily a welcome one, but we survived the big beat breakdown...i had to leave at 3 tho.

guy on before (Kevin Griffiths?) was good too - played Paperclip People's 'Throw' as the room filled up with dry ice. good moment.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I didn't get back into the Key bcz my brother annoyed the bouncer with some biz that I don't really remember. It was good to meet all you folks though and I had a lot of fun dancing to Braxe and playing the crap Dr Who pinball. LFO sounded fucking great. The other room was weird bcz it seemed to consist only of a single giant podium. There was so much dry ice that I felt I was in a dream sequence from some flick like Manhunter or something.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Dr Who pinball?! omg i need to go back!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:32 (seventeen years ago) link

It had underpowered flippers and tons of unused space--everything is crammed up at the top where the ball will barely reach. Weirdly the most prominently featured Dr in the backing artwork is Sylv. McCoy!

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:36 (seventeen years ago) link

They played LFO at Canvas as well. Can't remember who though, like someone mentioned earlier, there was a quite a throng behind the decks with every man and his beard trying to play a record and tweak the EQs.

It was a really good vibe, you could tell the Justice tracks because they have that same rough and rocky chords. Busy P was funny holding up sleeves and the table lamp.

Was Sebastian Tellier behind the decks? And is Tellier, the same person as DJ Sebastian? And final question, does Ozio look like Tellier?

Good to meet Alex, I didn't see anyone else. Anyone going to see Tellier at the Spitz tomorrow night?

rchinn (rchinn), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:46 (seventeen years ago) link

iirc wasn't Oizo aka Quentin in one of the Levis ads with Flat Eric himself (the one where they are in the car)? if so, he didn't look much like Tellier but that was quite a few years ago now so who knows...

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:50 (seventeen years ago) link

lfo was played too fast!

man i had a big big night. m,ade upfor a poor friday by a million times. was feeling all the tunes up until cagedbaby. sorry i slunk off but to be honest i was fucked and had to at least sit down. managed to catch a bus home at 5.30 so it wasnt too harsh.

i didnt know any of the tunes except "sweat on the walls" and "oh superman" remix and they all totally slayed me.

gareth, players paradise appears to be a label. cant remember what that tune sounded like, but it might be martinez "sunbeams". or maybe they played that as well.

theres a tune where ipoked my head roudn the dj booth and all i saw was "switch" and "control records" but i dont know whether it was a switch tune or not. it seemed pretty familiar but i think i must have got the wrong end of the stick.

the key is totally ok by me anyways now... the bar staff! swoon
also, cassy on 26th May!!!!

ambrose (ambrose), Sunday, 7 May 2006 20:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I have a few tunes on Players Paradise, what are you after, what did it sound like?

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 May 2006 20:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I had no problems with the Key, even the bouncers were friendly enough (until we tried to get back in at 4am of course).

Ed (dali), Monday, 8 May 2006 06:33 (seventeen years ago) link

justice and co were ace! spectacularly roughneck, really ferocious and unrelenting, these people do not know the meaning of down moments. uffie was fun though playing 'ready to uff' three times over the night possibly counts as overkill. the crunk interlude with 'lose control' etc was fantastic.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 8 May 2006 08:20 (seventeen years ago) link

good to meet richard, too, and patrick briefly. sorry i couldn't stick around in the pub. i'm not used to having to remember tickets!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 8 May 2006 08:21 (seventeen years ago) link

yo dudes! i am planning to go to fabric tonight if anyone would like to come along. i have an extra list spot so someone could come for free. i get in to london at around 8 PM and i am here til monday morning!

geeta (Tobias Rapp), Saturday, 13 May 2006 13:17 (seventeen years ago) link

would be great to see you but don't think i can handle more clubbing tonight. if you're gonna be at mark's beforehand i'm only 5 mins up the road so mail or call then! otherwise meeting up tomorrow somewhere would be cool.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Saturday, 13 May 2006 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

after Sugar I really want more dancing: let's all go to fabric!

hopeful bump?

I will be at Fabric. Going to Padded Cell first. If I see people who I think might be ILM'ers I'll say hello.

rchinn (rchinn), Saturday, 13 May 2006 21:59 (seventeen years ago) link

mmmm, holden & mfa pretty sweet at 54 commercial street, shame it was silly packed due to encompass shenanigans along with pheek at runsounds. Bah!

MattR (MattR), Sunday, 14 May 2006 02:34 (seventeen years ago) link

was at 54 commerical for a bit on friday night to see Ame, who was ok, after seeing Fugiji & Miyagi at 93ft east, which was also pretty good (sounds just like their 10 inches). it was pretty full then too, the dancefloor was humid, the crowd was ok if a little messy, but nowhere near the standards of the sunday morning zombie parties.

tonight padded cell were alright. didnt sound too live. one guy was working a sequencer which looked like ableton while richard stern operated a keyboard. their tunes are excellent, but herbal really has no vibe, so the crowd was a bit flat.

fabric wasnt as full as normal. when i got down optimo had room two working well, mixing on of the new minus tracks with la la land, and dropping the carl craig mix of revelee which sounds on that system. only other act i really heard was patrick chadronnet, his main tune rocked, and the others also.
