according to one ILXor, gay men already know how to play football, Michael.

This could mean only one thing: I'm not gay.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 7 September 2003 20:53 (twenty years ago) link

I don't think I'm qualified enough to make that determination.

hstencil, Sunday, 7 September 2003 20:58 (twenty years ago) link

I thought the whole premise of Queer Eye was that attractive straight men don't exist!

Any thoughts on the new season?

I think it's interesting that they now show the fab five interacting with the kids in the household, which they didn't before. Also they obv have a bigger budget, which is kinda neat but kinda dud because it's just that much more unrealistic.

I'm watching the making of the video of the theme song special right now, I'm so addicted.

The English version has been shelved so thankfully my TV appearance will not be shown.

How did they get Ted Nugent on Queer Eye?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 01:33 (twenty years ago) link

Chloroform?

Kingfish Beatbox (Kingfish), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 01:40 (twenty years ago) link

A friend of mine has been obsessed with this program since it practically began, so of course naturally she would drop me a few hints here and there that I needed to check it out. Well, last week I decided to give it a go and OH MY GOD it's my newest obsession! I LOVE Carson, certainly, and Jai is a wonderful doll, and Ted needs his own Food Network show STAT, and MY GOD KYAN IS GORGEOUS, but... wow... Thom. Thom. Wow. Thom. Wow. WOW.

I love this show. I'm more than happy to ignore the hataz and watch this show as many times as I possibly can. Not just for Thom, mind. ;)

OH YES, AND SOUNDTRACK ALERT! SOUNDTRACK ALERT! Not ONLY does it include a remix of a brand new song by my Beloved Boys From Birmingham (which I think is ALMOST as good as the original), it also includes an amazing mashup featuring Fischerspooner and Billy Squier.

But what about rival show Fairy Godfathers?

Is Cabbage's mate going to be on telly at last?

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Has someone informed Dee?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:18 (nineteen years ago) link

I hope someone shares it on slsk or something, for dee's sake. I mean COME ON, queer eye with english accents???!?

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 6 May 2004 14:29 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't get that cable channel. Or any channel that's shown Queer Eye in the UK (er, is there one?)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 May 2004 14:43 (nineteen years ago) link

My mate was on this, although I think they scrapped the episode. His lounge looks much better since the gayover.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 6 May 2004 14:47 (nineteen years ago) link

I would totally pay for cable or direct tv or whatever it took if this came on BBC America.

Convulsing with laughter, people. Convulsing with laughter.
(Though I am highly interested in this British treatment. Ha. So BBC America better pick it up if they know what's good for them. *snort*)

Those Beautiful Lines (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 7 May 2004 05:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Apparently Aus was going to have a local version of QEFTSG too, but it never seemed to materialise. Which is probably a good thing - I dont mind the original show but somehow an ocker version would be kinda wrong, somehow. I dont know why. I just dont see it working.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 7 May 2004 05:34 (nineteen years ago) link

It's still on the cards Trayce. Last I heard Ten already signed up four guys, and had its feelers out for a cooking bloke. That's just a few weeks ago.

What Not to Wear Australia got the chop.

They finally showed this on UK terrestrial TV last night. Can NYCers confirm to me that in your crazy topsy-turvy world Carson's outfit befits a 'fashion guru'? I mean ongoing 80s revival yadda yadda, but not like that. He looked like a coke dealer from Miami Vice!

And they were encouraging Butch to double denim!

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 June 2004 13:57 (nineteen years ago) link

This is a very amusing programme . I have loved it since it has been on Lifestyle TV - though the UK version sucks, it is just a cheap way for UK middle class guys to get their wedding outfits on the cheap - nonetheless it has made my boyf shave his back and for that alone I am very grateful.

It's no more stereotypical than Trinny and Susannah are. Which is to say it IS, but screeching TV bitchy media fashion harpies are the same whether they are boys or girls. And rah rah for them in this context of fab telly, so WTF, who cares.

badger Kitten (badger Kitten), Saturday, 19 June 2004 20:28 (nineteen years ago) link

I thought it was pretty awful. They hadn't even bothered to edit it for UK TV so there were repeated scenes at US ad break moments. It wasn't nearly as entertaining as Fairy Godfathers. I mean, who would you rather see made over, an artist or a PIG FARMER?

Madchen (Madchen), Sunday, 20 June 2004 18:26 (nineteen years ago) link

i thought it was terrific although N is right about the double denim-ing. if anything it should all match no? anyway - i thought carson was genuinely hilarious and that this guy http://www.bravotv.com/images/Queer_Eye_for_the_Straight_Guy/Photos/kyan14.jpg was totally hott.

It was still on? I haven't heard anyone mention it in over a year.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Sunday, 14 January 2007 02:29 (seventeen years ago) link

I hadn't watched it for ages and then I saw one where they helped some local community group make over their community hall and it wasn't funny and I think it was supposed to be heartwarming, which I'm not sure any of them can really do. So I'm not surprised.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Sunday, 14 January 2007 09:10 (seventeen years ago) link

It was canceled a few months ago. A shame.

IT'S ALIVE!!

Straw poll, which episode DIDN'T make you cry all your human tears.
How many of Karamo's bomber jackets do you wish you had (answer: all of them)
Why is Antoni so pretty.
And other important matters.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 February 2018 20:39 (six years ago) link

I read that the standup comedian shut-in guy took down his website because he 'wasn't ready for all that' and Karamo was v heartbroken.
That guy seemed more like he was perhaps on the spectrum? I dunno, I think Antoni was the only one of all of them who was like, 'um this isn't going to be as straightfoward as you think guys'

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 February 2018 20:44 (six years ago) link

The firehouse trainer reminded me of Ron Swanson, especially the way he giggled his face off at pranking Tan with the pen

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 28 February 2018 20:45 (six years ago) link

I like how hstencil said years ago what I was thinking, that they should've cast a bear on the show.

Yerac, Wednesday, 28 February 2018 21:04 (six years ago) link

The bedsit comedian guy was my least favorite of everyone.

Yerac, Wednesday, 28 February 2018 21:05 (six years ago) link

Jonathan is one of the greatest people that's ever been on TV. He's hysterical and shameless. I pretty much only persevered with latter seasons of GoT so I could watch his Gay of Thrones sketches.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Wednesday, 28 February 2018 22:38 (six years ago) link

I've watched 7 season of RuPaul's Drag Race in the last 2 months so I am super glad they have a Jonathan on the show. His hair is so shiny.

Yerac, Wednesday, 28 February 2018 22:52 (six years ago) link

Jonathan took me a bit to warm up to, that first episode YAAAASSS YAAAASSS YAAAASS YAAAAAS was like LaGanja all over again minus the bad attitude. But he’s such a sweetheart that it didnt take me long

Karamo & the Superman firefighter in the final episode was everything, so funny

And oooh when the sweet gay guy walked out shirtless in his harness and they’re all O_O jaws on the floor and Antoni’s like “does anyone else need a drink?” hilarious

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 March 2018 01:58 (six years ago) link

I would never get married... but I would totally marry Antoni at first sight.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 1 March 2018 02:40 (six years ago) link

I'd probably marry Karamo as well tbh.

Jonathan is genuinely interested in getting people to feel good about themselves, and not just the subject of the episode but the wives, the kids, the barflys, everyone.
