Hm, I never thought of that. I usually avoid gold (tho not in shoes, I have 3 pair) because it was so country club "classic" jewelry in the '80s.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 10 November 2006 20:25 (seventeen years ago) link

okay, that might be another source of people's hesitation. I didn't realize that. but there's lots of pretty, non-country-club-y gold jewelry! (jewelry is the arena in which I am most fervently pro-gold)

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 10 November 2006 20:27 (seventeen years ago) link

but anyway. gold shoes are fantastic.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 10 November 2006 20:28 (seventeen years ago) link

i am pretty white, it's true

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Friday, 10 November 2006 20:38 (seventeen years ago) link

which i guess is part of what i mean by gold having to be the right "tone" to me. gold to me is often too close to beige and that just washes me out. i would wear gold shoes with something pink though.

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Friday, 10 November 2006 20:40 (seventeen years ago) link

well, none of this beige-y gold! that defeats the point of gold!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 10 November 2006 20:50 (seventeen years ago) link

I have just bought a pair of shoes from www.cydwoq.com people. They are the nicest shoes I have ever bought. Also the most expensive.

Laurel, man, I want your address so I can STEAL'em.

hey boy shoes

a friend of mine was wearing a wide gold pleated belt - more like a thin cumberbund really - tonight with a black t-shirt and dark blue pants. it worked and looked good. she's got innate style though; she can pull off a lot of stuff. i would wear such gold accessories, i decided. esp with matching shoes and handbag.

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Saturday, 11 November 2006 04:24 (seventeen years ago) link

yay! (yeah, I think accessories and shoes are probably wear it's at with gold. not that, like, a gold dress couldn't be cute, but it would be a lot to pull off.)

horseshoe (horseshoe), Saturday, 11 November 2006 04:27 (seventeen years ago) link

uh, "where" it's at, obviously.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Saturday, 11 November 2006 04:27 (seventeen years ago) link

fun!

I'm going to buy some new DMs. I want to put flourescent (sp I know for sure! As firefox underlines my spelling now!) laces in them. It's something I regret not doing back in the day.

ooh ooh, tell me where i can get some,

i really like them

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Sunday, 19 November 2006 00:10 (seventeen years ago) link

one month passes...
apparently I have pumps in every shade except black. so, any recommendations for serviceable but still cute black pumps? I think I should avoid straps, Mary Jane, T-, or otherwise.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 17:47 (seventeen years ago) link

argh. whenever I start looking for a pair, I get distracted by the things I'm trying to avoid:

so cute! but peep-toe isn't particularly "serviceable" in winter.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 17:53 (seventeen years ago) link

would one look like an Easter egg in these?

those are really really not black shoes at all

rrrobyn, breeze blown meadow of cheeriness (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:08 (seventeen years ago) link

they're kinda great though

rrrobyn, breeze blown meadow of cheeriness (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I know; I have a problem!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Depends on what you consider "serviceable"! I like this one, at macys.com:

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Fuck, not only is that huge, but it's also invisible. Anyway, the link is here.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:18 (seventeen years ago) link

that's really pretty, Laurel. thanks!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Or this one: Calvin Klein, nice mid-heel, quite pointy, here

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:21 (seventeen years ago) link

pointy would be good with jeans. trying to be as practical as possible.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm actually really into these for their stodginess, but I think the white plays that up better than the black...still, you know never, you might love them!

I have a gift card for Macy's, can you tell?

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

oh, the Arturo Chiang ones are beautiful! those are my favorites so far. but of course, I want the brown ones most. you'd think 3080 chocolate-brown pairs of shoes would be enough.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Really? I never know what to do with brown, instead of brown shoes I try to wear red or gold or some color that coordinates. I feel like my experiments in brown are all either the wrong shade for certain clothing items or they're too matchy matchy when they're the right shade, so I have officially given up.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 19:09 (seventeen years ago) link

gold is also a recent weakness of mine, but yeah. love the brown. I do think it sometimes makes me look a little matchy matchy.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 19:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I vote for the Calvin Kleins but only because I have a pair identical to them (that I haven't worn yet because I am a wuss and have been entrenched in knee-high boots as soon as the temperature hit below 55)

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I still haven't gotten any knee-high boots this season. soon it will be pointless. :(

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:39 (seventeen years ago) link

No, I returned my tall boots and haven't replaced them yet, either. Of course, today might be the first day I would have worn them.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

tall boots are all-weather for me.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

They wouldn't be during a texas summer!

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:43 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm really bad at making concessions to extreme heat when it comes to fashion.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I never wear little sundresses or spaghetti straps no matter HOW hot, but footwear I am happy to compromise on. Ex: wearing patent black pumps today!

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:48 (seventeen years ago) link

People were looking at me a bit askew when we were having the 70-80F weather a few days ago here because I was wearing my knee-high boots, but quite frankly I look askew at people who are out in tank tops and shorts and flip flops in 70-and-breezy.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:49 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess I could just forgo the pumps and wear my tall boots instead.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:51 (seventeen years ago) link

for some reason, those are the people i see when i look out the window to gauge temperature. i end up underdressed and freezing.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:51 (seventeen years ago) link

walking as much as I do everyday, uncomfortable shoes (which means tall, dark or closed ones in 80+ weather) is simply not an option.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

but that means you can wear peep-toes all the time!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

leather against bare feet in summer = sweaty and gross.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Uh...does that mean you only wear cloth shoes in the summer? Because leather actually does absorb moisture and it breathes, unlike plastic or rubber. And good leather sandals are always an option! Plus they break in so nicely when you're good and sweaty.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I do sometimes wear leather sandals, I thought of that after I posted. But I'd say mostly it's sneakers (with cotton socks when leather). I should just give up and accept my mid-thirties non-fashionable self. I used to actually give a shit about appearance but now I'm just vans and jeans.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 17:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Vans are fashionable, I think -- I mean, lots of people around here prob consider them "standard" sneakers but let's face it: in most of the country, "standard" sneakers are not a nice sleek pair of canvas slip-ons that can be ordered in a Jolly Roger/cherry blossom print.
