hey Spencer where did you go to high school...? do you know Robert Lobo?

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 22 January 2007 23:44 (seventeen years ago) link

At least they'll be playing at night (unlike the hilarious daytime set at Lollapalooza)

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 22 January 2007 23:46 (seventeen years ago) link

oh yeah also not personally super-excited about a reunion - maybe if they were geriatric it'd be amusing but the one set I saw of theirs (w/ Spiritualized opening at the Fillmore in the mid-90s) was so bad I have no real wish to see them again...

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 22 January 2007 23:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I do know Robert!

weird - we were college roommates, I'm still in touch with him (Joe Harrington too). Not entirely unrelatedly, he was the first other person I met who owned a copy of "Darklands".

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 00:02 (seventeen years ago) link

So where is that "rarities" box set then?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 00:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I LOVE "I hate rock and roll" so i'm sure even i'll be pleased.

[ hi spencer! (\:-[0> ]

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 00:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I really hope the Coachella show turns into a full-blown reunion tour -- and a handful of Texas shows.

Stephen Bush (Stephen B.), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 04:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Their reunion is basically the only thing I'm relatively interested in concerning Coachella. Mostly because I've never seen them as I was too young.

Stephen OTM regarding Texas shows.

onimo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 11:46 (seventeen years ago) link

How about some dates that are NOT at Festivals?

You know, for those of us that wanna see the Mary Chain, but don't want to pay overinflated ticket prices to wade through a bunch of other crap?

Or do non-Festival gigs just not pay enough to provide the beer habit necessary to make them get on with each other.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 11:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I DONT WANNA SEE THEM IN THE DAYTIME!

Mark G, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 11:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe there will be a secret warm up gig at the 100 Club.

I haven't got any inside information, I'm just saying, like.

PJ Miller, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 13:26 (seventeen years ago) link

There's a big gap before the Connect Festival where I'd expect them to schedule some UK gigs.

That said, I think there's every chance they'll be twatting each other with guitars before they reach Spain and it won't matter.

so i havent really gotten a good idea...should i go see them live in NYC or are they going to be old lamers?

buyabiznatch, Saturday, 21 April 2007 16:11 (seventeen years ago) link

They'll be at the Glasshouse next thursday. I'd much rather see them there than in Indio.

van smack, Saturday, 21 April 2007 16:15 (seventeen years ago) link

They're one of my 4 or 5 favorite bands, and yet I have virtually no interest in seeing them live...

StanM, Friday, 27 April 2007 15:12 (seventeen years ago) link

It was a good show. I'm not the biggest fan of them, so I didn't know most of the songs. Jim sang on "Cracking Up" and forgot the first line, so they had to restart it. My friend said that the bassist from Lush and the drummer from Ride were playing with them. Yes, it was Annie (not from Norway) instead of Scarlett Johannson. Their new song sounded just like their old songs, and had lyircs like "every day I wake might be the last...every drug I take might be the last..."

But yeah, they sounded good, and played "Just Like Honey" and "Head On" which is all that mattered.

naus, Saturday, 28 April 2007 02:26 (seventeen years ago) link

updated link to the brillian riot clip on youtube

tricky, Saturday, 28 April 2007 03:05 (seventeen years ago) link

That clip was awesome, I love Jim Reid's arrogance. I have an interview with him in Sydney where he's totally "we're the best" about the JAMC, I think it is sweet.

Trayce, Saturday, 28 April 2007 03:48 (seventeen years ago) link

They really lost their sh*t sometime during Automatic. Everything just started to sound like a contrived imitation of themselves.

Spencer Chow, Saturday, 28 April 2007 09:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Scarlett DID sing with them at Coachella!

koogs, Friday, 22 June 2007 15:54 (sixteen years ago) link

it's tonight:

http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/meltdown/jesusmarychain.html

StanM, Friday, 22 June 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

(that's in about two and a half hours, if my time zone guess is right)

StanM, Friday, 22 June 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

and that's only the support band (The Pastels) - if you're anywhere near London, you can still get there (if it isn't sold out)

StanM, Friday, 22 June 2007 16:00 (sixteen years ago) link

ITV really ought to stage a Saturday night special named Jesus And Mary Chain Mania, compered by Zoe Ball.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 June 2007 16:02 (sixteen years ago) link

FYI, London people who could still get there: on stage time according to a fan site:
Pastels 7:30-8:10
JAMC 8:30 (3 hours and a half to go)

StanM, Friday, 22 June 2007 16:03 (sixteen years ago) link

LOLZ! Thanks v much Stan, I am now going tonight :D

I had to - the Pastels are supporting!

Colonel Poo, Friday, 22 June 2007 16:06 (sixteen years ago) link

(oh no, if they suck it'll be my fault now)
