listening to those soundclaps he def played the first tune with the vocal (which was ace) and i think the last acidy one.

those parrish mix cds are still yoga flame for all time. keep on using the EQ knob like it's gonna fall off if you don't, theo.

strongohulkington, Thursday, 22 February 2007 16:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Is this a positive or negative statement "yoga flame for all time"? If I had heard one, I guess I'd know judging by whether he fiddled with the EQ on them, but are you telling me to get this or not.

does anyone know if this is any good?

haitch, Thursday, 22 February 2007 22:34 (seventeen years ago) link

It's the heavy heavy monsta sound! Slow, deep & hard w/ear-shattering hi hats.

Theo's myspace has the lovely album art for Sound Sculptures, Vol. 1

and Rush Hour says it's "In next week!" I wonder how long that's been the case, though.

The mp3 clips for it at Hardwax sound amazing.

Anybody have any clue where this can be ordered in the US? No TTL, no Forced Exposure, where else to look?

matt2, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 15:32 (seventeen years ago) link

you'll have to go to detroit, probably

matt2, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 17:58 (seventeen years ago) link

i'll have to quiz you extensively on trackmode's back catalog and ask to see your electrifying mojo club card

While I'd love to be a member of the Midnight Funk Association, and in my heart I always will be, here's hoping Mr. Monfresh Recastow and his 100% Ebay rating (only 99.1% on Discogs) comes through for me. Be honest, this is you isn't it vahid?

Also available at Emporium50 (which I think is run by Mike Grant)

gnippiks, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 07:28 (seventeen years ago) link

emporium is cool but last time i ordered they were all like "you must email us back immediately before we go on vacation tomorrow! otherwise you will have to wait two weeks until we start shipping." LOL Detroit.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 11:28 (seventeen years ago) link

i had to sell the few ugly edits i had because they were pressed so poorly and japanese dudes will pay through the nose for that stuff regardless.

sanskrit, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 11:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I forgot about Emporium50. I even had it bookmarked. Submerge is only good if it's been out for about three months already and Record Time seems to have been last updated about two years ago.

matt2, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

i like the b-side of ugly edit ten (which i paid 16 or 17 bucks for at dr wax - the cheapest its sold?) but the a-side (i think) was less good. ugly edit 7 is the best i've heard but i really like a fair number of them

Don't want to fall into initial listen hyperbole or anything but I finally got this, and it sounds like a masterpiece. Utterly focused and completely on point.

matt2, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 03:07 (seventeen years ago) link

C'mon, surely someone else wants to gush with me. This is the first time in quite a while I've completely abandoned my frantic blog downloading because I'm totally content to just sit and listen to this. The immediate standout to me is "The Rink" aka Moodymann Tribute as Ugly Edit. That's gotta be a Marvin sample. And the last disc is perfect. "Soul Control" is a great almost straight-up house tune with great vocals and "Synthetic Flemm" (with Omar S) bangs bangs bangs with acid-y flourishes and is a great kinda-followup to the also great "Renaissance" by T.O.M. Project.

As I said, though, something about this just feels so focused and tight.

matt2, Thursday, 3 May 2007 19:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Sounds like I could gush along, but I'm not gonna hurry and find/blag it.

blunt, Thursday, 3 May 2007 19:36 (seventeen years ago) link

no one can afford it!!

resolved, Thursday, 3 May 2007 19:40 (seventeen years ago) link

It is annoyingly difficult to find and expensive when found. But like gnippiks linked above, it is at least available at Emporium50.

matt2, Thursday, 3 May 2007 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

I think it'll be out on CD soon, no? I really can't afford the $30+ at the moment

Michael F Gill, Thursday, 3 May 2007 20:57 (seventeen years ago) link

One would hope. I would like to have a high quality digital version, but it's always hard to know what to expect.

matt2, Thursday, 3 May 2007 22:29 (seventeen years ago) link

how is the pressing?

tricky, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:30 (sixteen years ago) link

this is sounding pretty great. of course the sample cuts off just enough to whet the anticipation even more.

WHEN THE MORNING COMES on apricot. CLASSIC.

Jah Q Areas, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I saw that Omar S/Theo release too. Luckily Omar S makes his FXHE easier and cheaper to get off the FXHE website as long as it's in stock.

The pressing on the Theo album sounds pretty great to me. Lots of low end thump and crystal clear on the high end.

pipecock, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 00:14 (sixteen years ago) link

this is really good. i'd never heard the origial 'falling up' before getting it!

thee local shoppe had a copy of 'sound sculptures vol 1' last time i was in. wonder if it'll still be there next time. that 'synthetic flemm' track is siiiick.

haitch, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 00:42 (sixteen years ago) link

"Synthetic Flemm", "Soul Control", "They Say", and "The Rink" are ALL sick but in different ways. I'd recommend getting it as soon as possible. Thanks for the recommendation on that Skooby Laposky pipecock. I'm checking it out on Emusic now.

the original is nicer than the CC remix

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 16:44 (sixteen years ago) link

"the original is nicer than the CC remix

-- moonship journey to baja"

assuming youre talking about falling up, i agree wholeheartedly. i was one of those people hammering on the original off the beatdown comp years before the rmxes. i liked the C2 rmx when it dropped, but it was not stellar enough to stand up to the repeated plays that it got. now i want to buy that double pack just to get the original on a full sided pressing! the technasia rmxes were embarassingly bad, too. ick.

pipecock, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 16:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I wish that release was just the original and the CC remix cause I heard the Chateau Flight Remix and it just seemed kinda pointless.
