Mmmm, brownies now baking (the rest of the recipe: stir 2 tsp. vanilla (I use Penzey's doublefold, probably overkill but what the hell) into the butter/cocoa, gently fold cocoa mixture into the egg/sugar meringue, then barely fold in a scant 1 cup sifted cake flour into the the batter, just until white streaks disappear. Pour evenly into pan, put in oven and immediately turn temp down to 350 F. Bake for 40 minutes, cool, cut, eat).

I can't believe it - the vegetable box got delivered, but no carrots this week. 2 heads(?)...stalks(?)...bulbs(?) of fennel though!

Warm brownies have been eaten; visiting daughter has declared she is moving to Seattle with all her friends. Fudge is slowing boiling up and a divine smelling duck stock (for risotto tonight - I didn't get to the the other night) is making the cat insane.
