La la la la I'm not listening la la la.

these ship threads... people just list the comics they are going to buy?
― The Real Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 12:14 (sixteen years ago) link
and sometimes maybe add a witty comment or two, yes.
And then after being purchased and read occasionally a new release or two will be discussed in this very thread. But that's still a day or two off.
Here is what I shall pay for: Batman, Blue Beetle, Captain America, Criminal, Daredevil, and X-Men First Class. And I will definitely buy DC Showcase Presents Superman Family Vol. 2 once I've dug out from the avalanche of books received at Christmas.

Batman, Blue Beetle, Captain America and, um, She-Hulk...and I don't know if I'll be able to resist Superman Family Showcase. Jimmy, oh, Jimmy. RASL is out this week?
I wanted to bring up Blue Beetle with the last issue, but forgot. But the last issue was SO FUCKING GOOD. Seriously.

I'm also amused but pleased that there's a new printing of the excellent SMALL FAVORS VOL. 1--if people are picking it up because they like the X-MEN FIRST CLASS backups, they might be... very surprised.
Very.

So, hey, hi dere, what I am getting:
BATMAN #674 -- mmmmmmehing me out, mostly because of the art (blaaah) BLUE BEETLE #24 -- if John Rogers is here, then so I be FABLES #70
CAPTAIN AMERICA #35 -- BRU CRIMINAL 2 #1 -- BA DAREDEVIL #105 -- KER KICK ASS #1 -- I don't care if JRJR channels his dad & Kirby & the Music of the Spheres; if MM spits out one of those godawful "hey, let me have a character point out this awesome idea I had in a totally graceless fashion" dialog balloons, I will kick this book's ass MARVEL ZOMBIES 2 #5 -- not as balls-out fun as the 1st series; reads more like Marvel Pop Art fan-fic (AKA the kinda stuff I would totally write if given $$$ and the MU's sandbox) SHE-HULK 2 #26 -- pro-forma PAD, which ain't bad, but I fear it could become a home for PAD's bad habits SPIDER-MAN WITH GREAT POWER #2 THUNDERBOLTS INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT -- AKA a wheel-spinning special to give Mike Deodato time to do more cross-hatching ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #51 -- why Tyler Kirkham? Marat Mychaels was busy? ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #119 -- Stuart Immomnen [sp?] is awesome WORLD WAR HULK AFTERSMASH DAMAGE CONTROL #2 (OF 3) -- what Mr. Wolk said X-MEN FIRST CLASS VOL 2 #9 -- (not) EROTIC X-MEN LEGACY #208
GRAVEL #1 -- regular series featuring Warren Ellis' battle magician dude from various Avatar minis (w/ WE on co-writing duties); I am looking forward to the snark and Boing Boing research RASL #1 -- totally forgot about this; will order & cry when I find out it's sold out

I suspect I will be only buying Criminal, unless I crack and buy some other piece of crap on a "one floppy is too few" basis.

Action Comics was quite the enjoyment agaib. Not sure what world I've woken up in when this week's Geoff Johns comics are better than this week's Grant Morrison ones, but hey.
― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 28 February 2008 16:37 (sixteen years ago) link
wow, I bought four comics -
Criminal All Star Batman & Robin Grant Morrison Batman RASL (I must be one of those first issue fiends you hear about)

I thought Action Comics was definitely good - probably the weakest part of the arc so far, but it's been a thrilling great arc. But Batman has been getting better and better. I thought this issue was amazing. It might've helped that I read the long Morrison interview this week, so I feel confident that he knows what he's doing. (The Altered States'esque reveal was awesome.)

Link to the interview?

I really, really dug Batman this week. Couldn't help but imagine how amazingly awesome (and likely delayed) it would have been with a superior artist like JHW3, but, it's floppy comics, right?
Blue Beetle continues to be fantastic. The current storyline (which concludes next month) is sorta the culmination of the whole series to date (and I hope that doesn't mean it's going to be cancelled!) and really, really, really good. Outstanding art, threatening villains, 100% sympathetic protagonist, a well-drawn (drawn=written) supporting cast worth caring about, VERY satisfying dialogue (it's youthful w/o being all HEY THIS IS HOW KIDS TALK KTHKSBYE!)
Captain America = solid gold, except for that one panel where Bucky is young Mel Gibson.
Spider-Man: With Great Power is pretty. Decent all around, but no socks were knocked off.
