I hate to say it but I'm having a bit of deja vu about now. I could have sworn that the person who puts together either the New Wave Complex comps or the Flexipop comps posted to this board at some point.

Is this really the only thread devoted to these series?
These were hugely inspirational discoveries late in my process of making the '1981' box set--just so impressively comprehensive, deep--got me over the hump to actually spending hours and hours making physical copies.
Definitely an impressive creation--Between the Return of/None Night of/Tribute to Flexi-pop mixes, and the Tribute to Some Bizarre mixes--what, 35+ mixes? That has to rival, if not best, the Pebbles stuff, right? And no one knows who put these together? Seems impossible it could be one individual person--you would've had to have endless funds and unprecedented access circa 1982 to know all this stuff, or have spent basically since that time seeking it all out. An amazing public service.

I love how they mix known stuff with reasonably findable stuff (like I did with '1981') but then. . . they just go to another level, stuff there's *still* no information about, after 15+ years of the internet. And an amazing amount of it is good.

just listening to these comps transports you to some weird world. and knowing that most of these artists had only 1 or 2 released tracks, never releasing a long player, it's such an interesting view into that era.

I never really bothered to check these out because my impression was they're mostly in the minimal electronic vein, which isn't really my preferred strand of post-punk. Is that an accurate assumption on my part?
God, that picture of Dave Gahan in a coffin cracks me up. What WERE they thinking?

they were CDr bootlegs first, then soulseek virtual comps. I always thought the name was something of a tribute to the magazine. Maybe not.
It's pretty eclectic, sort of. Lots of minimal synth, but also synth-pop, new wave, poppier industrial, EBM type stuff. Lots of bad stuff but the killer stuff is great.

There is Return of Flexi-Pop,None Night of Flexi-Pop,A Tribute to Flexi-Pop,New Wave Complex,Analog Cyberpunk,Atomic Shockwave,A Tribute to Some Bizarre,Shockwaves,The Anesthetic's Wearing Off & i think that's it.I think combined it's about 85 volumes of these comps. There is some crossover but not loads.I found every single one of them on the internet. It took awhile but they are there.

there's no definitive collection. The Anesthetic's Wearing Off for instance was a friend of mine and way more recent then some of these things, and has nothing to do with any of them. Other than being somewhat likeminded.

Got some of these off Slsk, listening to #2 at the mo. Really digging this stuff and apart from Rational Youth & Pink Industry I'd never heard any of these bands before. Thanks ILM!
