These are three albums (along with Mingus and maybe a couple of others) which were supposed to reissued in HDCD remastered form around '99 and, in the UK at least, never were. There were even "Remastered HDCD" stickers on some of the CDs in the racks but they were the late '80s originals. Some did make it out on HDCD ("Don Juan", "Ladies of the Canyon").

my Court & Spark and Hissing are both HDCD - stamped on the disc and clearly superior to the previous CD issues I had... both US manufactured.

cannot find Hejira HDCD though...

so have they held back the HDCD editions in the UK to make way for these expanded editions? any ideas what the bonus material will be for C&S and Hejira?

tell me about these 'hissing' demos! i had no idea that such things existed.

Ah, right - those albums did come out as HDCD remasters in the US, but it must be five or six years ago now. I have no idea why they weren't made available in Europe (though the stickers erroneously appeared on some stock). Summer Lawns is supposed to be a particularly good remastering job. No hissing, y'see.

If the 2CD sets are full price, I may take my chances with Amazon.com and get the HDCD versions from the States (though, with shipping, Court plus Summer Lawns is $31...)

YES!!!

Greetings from Amazon.co.uk,

As someone who has expressed interest in music by Joni Mitchell, you might like to know that Court and Spark: Remastered & Expanded is now available.

twelve years pass...

These remasters never came out did they? Could it be they were lost in the great Universal fire?

Well, I can live without outtakes from such brilliant albums, but I think a few sonic upgrades may be possible and it would suck if the masters don’t exist.

yeah, phooey on the outtakes

These albums are with Warner Music, so they wouldn't have been in the fire. Mitchell's Geffen catalogue tapes were probably lost though.

Off topic, but Asylum Records has always meant Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne in my mind. I had no idea they were rebranded in 2004 and that the label looks like this.
