ANyway to bring it back, as 'twere, is a vinyl E&W worth whats probably over $50AUD? Blimey. Shouldve nicked the ex's copy while I had the chance.

Quite. Rocket Girl aka V. Joshi is VERY cool and I will testify to that as a friend of some years' standing now. Unlike some characters who have posted here offering their wares, she has known about and occasionally contributed to ILX for a long while.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 May 2004 22:11 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm not entirely sure of the going rate for the vinyl but i know there are still copies of the "reissued" cd version floating about.

fwiw the mastering on the vinyl LP is pretty decent, it's a nice sounding piece of vinyl. i paid A$30 for it a good ten years ago and never regretted it.

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Monday, 31 May 2004 22:18 (nineteen years ago) link

I have a copy of the CD - it isnt worth anything tho surely?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 00:43 (nineteen years ago) link

yes and no. it was pretty rare for ages until (depending on who you believe) a stack were "found at a distributors" or it was "repressed" or it was straight-up bootlegged (quite well though i thought) and then there were quite a few copies around and the price went down. those seem to have dried up now so perhaps the value is on the way back up?

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 00:54 (nineteen years ago) link

the interest in this stuff isn't nearly as high as it is for CD copies of the Creation-era EPs

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 6 January 2005 21:48 (nineteen years ago) link

This track, perhaps called "2" was made by Kevin Shields specifically for the La La La Human Steps dance troupe production also called simply 2 (from 1995 - video clips can be found here. I believe Michael Apted also made a film that was played during the performance. It sounds like an extended take of one of the incidental interstitial tracks from To Here Knows When and Loveless. However, I also think it's somehow much more beautiful than any of those. I am desperate to find a high quality recording of this track. Like MBV's "Sugar" before, it's now my holy grail of music! I've contacted the La La La Human Steps but unfortunately, no CD was ever made...

I have never thought that at the time or since, other than many post-Mary Chain bands were influencing each other and the aesthetic moment was driven by similar goals.

new interview where shields says that the two new albums are currently both planned for release next year, but there should be still some new music released this year (presumably pre-release singles?). i'll believe it when i hear it but i feel a little more optimistic than his previous promises of 'a new EP soon' etc. because we've heard more about the process in this year's interviews etc.

ufo, Tuesday, 18 May 2021 21:25 (two years ago) link

i think the concrete moves, signing to domino, getting on streaming, bode well. i don't trust anything he says but it seems like he realizes the band won't last forever

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 18 May 2021 21:48 (two years ago) link

yeah, m b v was preceded by similar concrete moves like the remasters finally coming out so that's more reason to be optimistic too

Is it really the same original lead singer guy singing on Geek as on “Lovely Sweet Darlene”? Talk about a major change in singing styles. Why yes I am doing an MBV deep dive right now thanks for asking. Their early stuff is supposed to totally suck, but I actually don’t think it’s all that bad! Derivative as all hell, but still fun and noisy.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 9 May 2022 14:29 (one year ago) link

ikr, I remember listening to Tiger In My Tank on yt and every other comment was "wow they really sucked in the early days, huh?" and you know it might be a Cramps knock-off, but it's a good Cramps knock-off, plenty to appreciate even that early on.

Portrait Of A Dissolvi Ng Drea M (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 9 May 2022 14:37 (one year ago) link

I know ranked lists are highly subjective, but I still can't believe there's no mention of "Only Shallow" or "Loomer" in the Guardian's top twenty.

I can't tell if he's trolling or not (ilxor), Thursday, 2 February 2023 18:48 (one year ago) link

I reviewed Loveless when it came out and decided “Loomer” was my favourite track. It’s overlooked too often.

assert (matttkkkk), Thursday, 2 February 2023 19:42 (one year ago) link

Alexis was asking us on FB about what we would choose for such a list, my own choice was "Don't Ask Why" (in that all the obvious ones I could think of would likely be in there). I think "Only Shallow" is more of a US thing since that was the actual single as such over here, promowise at least.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 2 February 2023 20:48 (one year ago) link

I know these things are daft but Cupid Come and You Never Should

kraudive, Thursday, 2 February 2023 22:28 (one year ago) link

I always considered "Lose My Breath" top-tier MBV, and always assumed that was an opinion shared by many fans. But maybe not? Even more befuddling is the omission of "Loomer" and "Cupid Come," as others have already mentioned. Weird list.

does "What You Want" count? it's the least listened to track on Loveless via Spotify.

it's tough to call anything on Loveless a deep cut, but to me, it's my very favorite song of theirs and represents so much of what they do incredibly well, at the peak of their powers, all in the same song
