chaki (chaki), Saturday, 3 May 2003 07:56 (twenty years ago) link

just d/l-ed, & this is great great great!
(haha if anyone wants to remix this & replace the rapper with ms dynamite circa-"boo!" in a "enth e nd" style I will give you my 2003 earnings)

Ess Kay (esskay), Saturday, 3 May 2003 08:40 (twenty years ago) link

They sound like boring The Gathering wannabe's with just enough Linkin Park in them to get on radio.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Saturday, 3 May 2003 17:31 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, it smacks of "well, this girl-fronted metal-lite stuff has been selling like hot cakes on mainland Europe for the last half decade, if we throw in some nu-metal production tricks we can crack the Anglophone market too".

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 4 May 2003 10:12 (twenty years ago) link

If the guest male vocalist was part of the band, I would call it "the nu-metal Lacuna Coil".

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Sunday, 4 May 2003 10:23 (twenty years ago) link

I like it, not really bothered about authenticity to be honest with y'all.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 4 May 2003 11:22 (twenty years ago) link

How's that LP remix album, Ess Kay? I heard the remix of "Crawling" on the radio once and it was good.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 4 May 2003 15:27 (twenty years ago) link

I am not too snooty to admit that I really like this song.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 4 May 2003 16:21 (twenty years ago) link

I liked it so much, I bought the album.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 4 May 2003 16:26 (twenty years ago) link

this video makes this horrible song 65899x worse

chaki (chaki), Sunday, 4 May 2003 17:26 (twenty years ago) link

is this from Daredevil? i'm assuming so.

this is one of the worst songs i've heard in a long, long time. when it started with that whole Tori Amos thing, i was wondering how it got to be the theme of a movie like that-- it wasn't good, but it was pretty inoffensive. then then the crunchy guitars came. then the dude rapping.

fucking awful.

AWFULLLLL!

colin mcelligatt, Sunday, 4 May 2003 17:29 (twenty years ago) link

yup, ya can't argue it's fuckin linkin park w/ a non-talented female singer. i really hope this band flops real soon. they're just so bad. but i could see how they got popular. 'female versions' of groups and individual artists always blow up. look at the female counterpart to john mayer.. norah jones, if you couldn't guess that one. and then we have bands like the Donnas or even the Kills ripping off all the new rock and roll revival bands. will it ever stop ? who's in charge of this ?

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Monday, 5 May 2003 03:19 (twenty years ago) link

didn't Scheer already do this sort of thing a few years back?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 5 May 2003 03:22 (twenty years ago) link

John Mayer = Norah Jones? wtf?

Al (sitcom), Monday, 5 May 2003 04:17 (twenty years ago) link

It's one of those songs that I like the idea of conceptually, but the execution is disappointing.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 5 May 2003 04:33 (twenty years ago) link

Al, are you being sarcastic? i sure hope so.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Monday, 5 May 2003 20:46 (twenty years ago) link

I was just thinking about the way I used to think about bands, really obsessed with who was credible, who was ripping off each other. I'm really glad I don't give a shit who came first anymore, and can simply judge a band on whether or not the song does anything for me. I mean it's FUN to think about how John Mayer is putting a young face on Stingness, but I don't think that means he's WORSE than Sting. Especially since he's genuinely witty in interviews.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 5 May 2003 22:02 (twenty years ago) link

Hm. If you can demonstrate the last point to me I might refrain from beating him about the head.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 May 2003 22:05 (twenty years ago) link

sundar - the "In The End" remix was one of my favourite tracks from last year, & the "High Voltage" remix is also great. Haven't heard too much else, yet - been waiting in vain for it to turn up second-hand.

also may I echo
John Mayer = Norah Jones? wtf?

Ess Kay (esskay), Monday, 5 May 2003 22:06 (twenty years ago) link

aside from his frequent defense of Sting (a dude that the interviewer bring up, not him), he's said some really funny stuff in Rolling Stone. Personally favorite may be his explanation of why he thinks the lower case g is the sexiest letter in the alphabet. He makes HORRIBLE faces when he sings live though.

Okay, well, this begs the question...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 May 2003 22:22 (twenty years ago) link

Look it up yourself, dude. I don't remember it word-for-word. Also, as cheesy as "Your Body Is A Wonderland" is, it's nice that there's a song about physical affection that's gentler about it than "It's Fuck Time (Hymn To The Ass, pt. 2)."

That wins my Super Comedy Gold Star Award this week. Good work.

*bows* I try.

Clearly you haven't heard the remix.

Thievery. But I don't mind. And I don't want to look it up myself! Then I'd have to look through an issue.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 01:31 (twenty years ago) link

Ned invented the bow?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 01:32 (twenty years ago) link

He needed something to hold back those unruly locks.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 01:33 (twenty years ago) link

And pigtails alone don't do the trick.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 6 May 2003 01:34 (twenty years ago) link

aw, you guys took it that direction. I was hoping someone would put Ned's head on a shot of Rambo about to nuke a hamlet with a bomb-tipped arrow.

Nedbo vs. Nedolas FITE.

Aw. That would be precious. :-)
