I would cite Bill Richardson maybe -- if I thought he had a snowball's chance in hell of actually winning. i don't know. I'm so left with the exasperated feeling of: "Is this really the best we can do?"

What's with the middle initials btw?

Alex OTM: though I'd wager he's a good bet for HRC veep. He and Edwards would be an interesting ticket.

if anyone cares, he's my order of preference:

(1) edwards -- hands down the best candidate on the issues of most importance to me (read: economics issues) -- if it wasn't for him, i really wonder if any of the other candidates would be anywhere near as "populist" as they have been. probably won't be nominated, though.

(2) hillary -- probably the best qualified of all of the candidates. even though i don't like some of her associates (read: mark penn and the DLC crowd) and there's the whole iraq war thing, i also think that she'd be very conscientious in both keeping different party factions satisfied as well as taking the serious problems that this country will face seriously. plus she WILL fight, which AFAIC is a prerequisite in this age of O'Reilly and other assorted right-wing/neocon freaks.

(3) dodd -- also well-qualified. plus his economic/financial background will be a plus in what i firmly believe will be the oncoming economic/financial shitstorm b/c of financial/housing market turbulence. plus he's made the right noises/moves on FSA/constitutional issues. on the other hand, could be too cosy to Wall Street (i'm suspicious that we'd end up with a massive, taxpayer-financed subprime bailout under his watch that does more to bail out Wall Street, mortgage bankers and flippers than actual homeowners) plus he probably has no chance of winning in the primaries either.

(4) richardson -- dunno about him, one moment he's OK the next he sounds like he fell offa the turnip truck. pluses are his federal and gubernatorial experience. will keep my eye on him, but i also don't think that he has a chance.

(5) obama -- still cannot figure out just WHY he's running. plus i can't shake the feeling that he's a big phony, an empty suit who talks like Bobby Kennedy and acts like Joe Lieberman. additionally, his "followers" that i've met are some of the most smug people i've met this side of nader's supporters in 2000. finally, i firmly believe that the GOP will play him like a chump, that he doesn't have the stomach or instincts for fighting. not ready for prime time.

(6) kucinich. pfft. might as well just write in Shirley McLain or Jon Anderson (if he were a US citizen). too much of a flake to win anything.

(7) biden. closest thing to Joe Lieberman running -- which is very, very bad and totally unacceptable. at least Joementum is acceptable on many economic issues. i might as well vote for Citibank or Bank of America as support him -- it'll be more efficient, cutting out the middle man. has absolutely no chance of winning.

barack b., but i'm a young college student who won't vote for him when he wins the nom anyway so w/e.

i picked him too. but i'm a canadian who can't vote for him when he's in this "election" you speak of.

Edwards is not entirely offensive as a potential President - but I just can't shake seeing him on-screen debating Dick Cheney, Lord of All Evil. He seemed to be pushing the Clinton folksiness way too hard, without much effect other than smarminess.

I think he'd really suffer in comparison to a stiff upper lip Republican.

Kucinich was great tonight.

His move about having a president who "got it right from the beginning" was great - he wasn't just pointing out that he had voted the right way the first time on the big issues or that he was more principled, but that he had proven to have better judgment than the supposedly more practical-minded centrists.

I feel like I've heard that 'got it right from the beginning' line before from some other candidate somewhere

I liked the whole context of the line, not just the line itself, because he was using it to suggest that he'd be more likely than the other candidates to make good, sound decisions as president. I thought this was a pretty smart move by someone typically painted as the outsider wacko leftist candidate.
