Look at it this way: he is going to be badly injured at some point during this season. Maybe not career ending (nothing seems to be with this guy), but hurt badly enough that he'll be feeling that pain for the rest of his life. So I leap off and my wife is screaming so I think "okay, gotta protect my kid" so I intend to roll on my back to take the brunt of the impact, but without thinking I actively push my child away and she flies off in another direction and Brett is screaming and his wife is screaming and his kid is screaming and then kid hits the ground and Brett/I hits the ground and we all die. Then I wake up.
