I fully welcome Favre returning. It's good for my wallet.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 18 August 2009 22:50 (fourteen years ago) link

except for his impressive ability to manipulate ppl and situations he really is dumb as a bag of rocks.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 18 August 2009 22:52 (fourteen years ago) link

i think he's referring to whether his body will physically disintegrate when he steps on the field, not whether he'll retire in the next five minutes, but still

DOWN WITH IT!

::googles Brett Favre:: (brownie), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 01:32 (fourteen years ago) link

Dude magically wanders in like the day before camp ends and says "Oh yeah my daughter just wanted me to win a Super Bowl yesterday, LOL what can you do?" Dude is basically football Roger Clemens, with painkillers instead of steroids. I think I would even be less infuriated if he had signed with the Vikings a month ago instead of Re-re-re-re-retiring and then pulling this crap, just because I allowed myself to believe that it would finally be over.

Did he seriously say "True Packer fans will understand?" Like he is like Ray Bourque or something? The only way I am going to understand is if he throws every single pass to a Packer defensive back, and then injures himself enjoying the game in a childlike manner. If I had a pair of Wrangler jeans I would set them on fire.

C-L, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 01:53 (fourteen years ago) link

Are the Vikings good enough to contend for a Super Bowl title with an aging Farve as QB? If he's intent on winning a Super Bowl, I imagine there's better places for him to go (tho, I guess at this point, Minn. is one of the only top-tier type teams in need of a starting quarterback (?)).

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 August 2009 01:56 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean i don't think the vikes are a super bowl team but i would have said same about the cards last year. i don't think he wants to play for them because of their chances to win--this is all abt sticking it to green bay.

i think the real question is--how likely is it that he will lose a game for them late in the season or early in the playoffs? i think chances are real good and that's something i never would have said about kurt warner to name one.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 02:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I gotta look at their roster. The Vikings were an invisible team to me last year. I guess I remember that they were pretty good. And the NFC seems weak(-ish).

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 August 2009 02:06 (fourteen years ago) link

they have a really good defense and a top 3 running back. certainly enough to come out of the nfc with a caretaker qb, which is the essence of why signing favre is really fucking dumb.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 02:08 (fourteen years ago) link

i only wish omar was here to witness this

Last year I thought the West and NorthCentral divisions or whatever they're calling these things were simply the dregs. I still think Atlanta will win the conference this year despite being drunk.

::googles Brett Favre:: (brownie), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 02:13 (fourteen years ago) link

based on my limited studies thus far philly and new york are the only two worth a damn. saints and seahawks probable bounceback candidtate. atlanta due for a big fall.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 02:16 (fourteen years ago) link

nfc north is gonna be hella strong this year - bears w/ cutler obv, pack are gonna see a definite uptick in their record this year, the vikes have the potential to be very very good but i don't think anyone thinks that favre is better than rosenfels atm

No Cardinals? No Cowboys?

This can't be right. I watched Rosenfels in Miami. Aside from his first pass as a starter . . . ugh.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 August 2009 02:55 (fourteen years ago) link

rosenfels played pretty well for the texans last year while schaub was hurt

geir ham, go (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 02:58 (fourteen years ago) link

the vikings really do need a quote unquote 'game manager' - someone who can complete passes in the 8-15 yard range consistently and just hand off to AD/chester taylor and most importantly not throw INTs - tavaris jackson was totally incapable of doing any of these things besides handing off but rosenfels could def be a careful, efficient QB for them

really? u wouldn't have? last offseason it seems like the CW re: warner was a lot more negative, all you'd hear about him was how he was a fumblemachine and a statue.

many xxxps, but cards to me are a one-year wonder. they might make the playoffs, but i would be really really amazed to see them go deep again. the cowboys as constructed and coached are going nowhere.

as for warner, it's hard to see him as a liability in the right system. and he is def in the right system. you may be able to find statements to the contrary but i recall liking the '08 cards offense a decent amount--enough to do an 8-8 or 9-7. i don't think ANYONE foresaw what they became in the playoffs.
