schlereth taking down shanahan

whoa, you BIT the hand marty! you BIT THE HAND!

(what did he say?)

iro with the brown bag (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 22:11 (fourteen years ago) link

they were talking about how a head coach who loses credibility in the eyes of players can never count on them to go above and beyond. schlereth told a long story about how for four years whenever the broncos played the chiefs, shanahan would rip on dale carter and say he wasn't tough enough, man enough, etc. to be a bronco. after four, the broncs signed carter and made him the highest paid dude on the team, letting go some other v. well-liked guy in the process. schlereth claims from that day forward shanahan lost part of the team.

grain of salt and all but you usually don't hear stuff like this on sportscenter.

'mentally tired'

( ´_ゝ˙) (Dr. Phil), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 22:22 (fourteen years ago) link

lol how should vikings fans feel that 3 weeks ago their new starting qb didn't feel that physically he could play at a level that was acceptable.

and that soreness in both ankles and his left knee worsened and would not subside during private workouts.

and that he felt he could "never get over the mental hump" that his body wouldn't hold up for a full season.

i like the teaser for link to doug gottlieb show:

"Ed Werder talks about Brett Favre deciding to stay retired. He doesn't see Brett returning again. With Favre's decision, what will Werder cover now?"

horseshoe, Tuesday, 18 August 2009 22:52 (fourteen years ago) link

i think he's referring to whether his body will physically disintegrate when he steps on the field, not whether he'll retire in the next five minutes, but still

DOWN WITH IT!

WILL NEVER STOP POSTIN IN ALL CAPS

::googles Brett Favre:: (brownie), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 01:32 (fourteen years ago) link

Dude magically wanders in like the day before camp ends and says "Oh yeah my daughter just wanted me to win a Super Bowl yesterday, LOL what can you do?" Dude is basically football Roger Clemens, with painkillers instead of steroids. I think I would even be less infuriated if he had signed with the Vikings a month ago instead of Re-re-re-re-retiring and then pulling this crap, just because I allowed myself to believe that it would finally be over.

Did he seriously say "True Packer fans will understand?" Like he is like Ray Bourque or something? The only way I am going to understand is if he throws every single pass to a Packer defensive back, and then injures himself enjoying the game in a childlike manner. If I had a pair of Wrangler jeans I would set them on fire.

C-L, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 01:53 (fourteen years ago) link

Are the Vikings good enough to contend for a Super Bowl title with an aging Farve as QB? If he's intent on winning a Super Bowl, I imagine there's better places for him to go (tho, I guess at this point, Minn. is one of the only top-tier type teams in need of a starting quarterback (?)).

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 August 2009 01:56 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean i don't think the vikes are a super bowl team but i would have said same about the cards last year. i don't think he wants to play for them because of their chances to win--this is all abt sticking it to green bay.

i think the real question is--how likely is it that he will lose a game for them late in the season or early in the playoffs? i think chances are real good and that's something i never would have said about kurt warner to name one.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 02:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I gotta look at their roster. The Vikings were an invisible team to me last year. I guess I remember that they were pretty good. And the NFC seems weak(-ish).

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 August 2009 02:06 (fourteen years ago) link

they have a really good defense and a top 3 running back. certainly enough to come out of the nfc with a caretaker qb, which is the essence of why signing favre is really fucking dumb.
