i'm really digging this song, not a fan of this video however:

weird that that video really highlights their industrialness, rather than their hipsterness.
― samosa gibreel, Monday, 5 October 2009 04:59 (fourteen years ago) link
also it's ugly.
ugly video (most are, it seems) but the song gets better every time I listen

am i the only person who gets how awesome this band are?
― plaxico (I know, right?), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 00:26 (fourteen years ago) link
no! they ARE awesome. i am currently listening to get color while drinking orangina (made exclusively from the vagina of the orange). excellent combo.

I haven't spent much time with it yet, but there's so much life and energy in the new disc.

Get Color has jumped onto my year's top-10 after two listens, thanks to mentions on the P4 and PopMatters polls. The influence of Wire is all over this: the guitar sounds (are those even guitars) are lifted off the Read & Burn EPs, the vocal presence and melodies is Colin Newman, there's a song that could have fit on The Ideal Copy, and the most audible difference is that HEALTH's (that's how they want is capitalized, it seems) has a hot-shit drummer, whereas Gotobed shrank from light.
More people should here this before 2009 is consigned to the history books.
― Biodegradable (Derelict), Monday, 14 December 2009 20:50 (fourteen years ago) link
hear even.
you're wrong, gotobed is a great drummer
mostly otm re this album tho. i also am picking up a this heat vibe, especially on the last track
― uptown churl, Monday, 14 December 2009 22:25 (fourteen years ago) link
Not saying Gotobed was bad, he was just more motorik and less flamboyant. He was content to be the canvas.
― Biodegradable (Derelict), Monday, 14 December 2009 22:29 (fourteen years ago) link
u guys r making me optimistic that this is gonna do well out of the end of lists cos it didn't get the level of love it deserved imo
― plaxico (I know, right?), Monday, 14 December 2009 22:30 (fourteen years ago) link
Hell, I even like the video. No one comes to my Dionysian blood wearing Prada.

^^ blood orgies

they have some new remix album, i think they think this is their thing bc of the crystal castles. i dont really care that much but this new track USA BOYS is even more not-boredomesy

that song kinda reminds me of a slowed-down Fuck Buttons. I like it

Somewhat bizarrely, they are soundtracking the videogame Max Payne 3, with a soundtrack album released 15 May:

haven't listened to it yet, but am interested. i'm not a huge video game player, but i'd be interested in hearing how their music worked within the context of the game.
when i saw that they were doing this it reminded me of the linkin park discussion that happened upthread.
― borntohula, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:46 (eleven years ago) link
Only "Tears", which appears in the promo video, is really like their prior work. The soundtrack album is otherwise instrumental, with their excellent drummer playing Brazilian (as is the game's setting) percussion at the forefront.

Not much difference with Get Color on the pop accessibility front, the most notable change to my ears are the drums are pushed up in the mix, and way more aggressive on around half the tracks.
― Planned adolescence (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 4 August 2015 22:44 (eight years ago) link
this is pretty cheesy

cheesiness works well with them vocals imo
LIFE is so incredible! Like an emo teen pop song, covered by an industrial band.

Adore this album.
― Tim F, Monday, 19 October 2015 20:28 (eight years ago) link
Although it does sound like Beach House's Bloom plus power saws.
― Tim F, Monday, 19 October 2015 21:14 (eight years ago) link
really not digging the mix on this. i could def get behind an even more tuneful/vox-focused HEALTH, but it feels like every time they want to bring something noisier into it there's no no punch. maybe i have a bad rip idk, that would be a pleasant surprise.
― franklin, Monday, 19 October 2015 21:48 (eight years ago) link
maybe a bad rip? the noisy bits seems punchy enough on the vinyl pressing. the vocals are high in the mix but it's meant to be a pop record i reckon.
lol @ beach house plus power saws. i would pay good money to see that show.
― davey, Monday, 19 October 2015 23:10 (eight years ago) link
Surprised that this isn't a bigger deal than it is.

Liking the music but the fey vocals really grate
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 22 October 2015 09:19 (eight years ago) link
New album seems pretty solid, not hugely different from the last one, maybe a bit heavier.
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Saturday, 9 February 2019 02:32 (five years ago) link
Vol 4 doing it for me right now. Up to this point I'd only listened to SLAVES OF FEAR a million times, but the rest of the album is solid.
I have a subwoofer in my living room but not my kitchen, and out of all the music I've listened to it - including a LOT of dance music - this is the album that showed the biggest quality difference with/without a sub.
