WHERE IS THE FOOKIN LISTENING PARTY?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 22:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Those look nothing alike. The top image is clearly 300 X 267 pixels while the new one is 454 X 510 pixels!! That's 151440 more innit?

walter kranz (walterkranz), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 22:51 (eighteen years ago) link

True. The new album will be released on a cd that is 7" in diameter - requiring a package that is over 50% larger.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:10 (eighteen years ago) link

One of the tracks leaked. Not sure which though. Buit its here:

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:13 (eighteen years ago) link

?

hari where did you get that?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:14 (eighteen years ago) link

It's a secret.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:19 (eighteen years ago) link

:(

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:20 (eighteen years ago) link

This sort of sounds like a fake... then again I remember that whole deal with the "fake" Autechre album that leaked, which actually ended up being the real thing...

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:22 (eighteen years ago) link

I heard the entire album leaked, they I don't have anything concrete to substantiate that.

Smetric, Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I will go out on a limb and say it's not fake. The drum loop is underprogrammed, but the synth textures are pretty fully realized.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Sounds like them. Even if it is a fake - it's quite good!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:25 (eighteen years ago) link

if it's not them, it's a good imitation.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:25 (eighteen years ago) link

xpost

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't have anymore songs though :(

This does sound like the real thing. But the way it cuts out at the end makes me think it might be a demo or something.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh, and the Chemicals comparison (I'd see these next to each other at the various record stores at the time of their release)

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005U1YO.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005Y0Q4.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

not identical obviously (and not some kind of "rip-off") but just walking by them in the store could lead one to think they were the same.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:25 (eighteen years ago) link

The drums on that leaked track are v Mr Scruff/Viberty. I keep thinking back to Gareth's complain about BOC's drums. Sometimes I loved the beats but other times he had a point.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:29 (eighteen years ago) link

According to one of the main BoC fansites, this is the cover art: [image removed! it was goatse! not spencer's fault! - mod]

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:31 (eighteen years ago) link

That also appears on Pitchfork.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:32 (eighteen years ago) link

Goatse, we meet again....

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Has anyone heard the background music on the music70 website? I honestly don't know if it's something from MHTRTC or not.

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:42 (eighteen years ago) link

the drums sound thin on that track.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:44 (eighteen years ago) link

(thanks MODS!)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:49 (eighteen years ago) link

Let's see if Pitchfork does it to us too!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:50 (eighteen years ago) link

Also, non-goatse website: http://www.boardsofcanada.com/ seems to have samples from the um, what is it, Telefire Campspace Octogon Moon?

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:52 (eighteen years ago) link

(thanks Mark! for modding)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:52 (eighteen years ago) link

campfire headphase is a googlewhack! not for long i imagine ....

zappi (joni), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 23:58 (eighteen years ago) link

http://www.boardsofcanada.com/ people! Trippy, duuuude!

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Thursday, 11 August 2005 00:00 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh wait old stuff.

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Thursday, 11 August 2005 00:03 (eighteen years ago) link

no problem spencer!

boc's official site hasn't been updated in three years. but man, how ridiculously talented is james tindall.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 11 August 2005 00:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Does anyone know where to get that "Trails" track from the site?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 11 August 2005 00:06 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm not so big on that leaked track. It seems to run out of ideas after the first two minutes and just plods along for the final three.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 11 August 2005 00:07 (eighteen years ago) link

i wouldnt be at all surprised if it turned out to be a Luke Vibert track

zappi (joni), Thursday, 11 August 2005 00:09 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah it sounds like him "remixing" BoC.
my tinny computer speakers are not good for assessing drum tracks.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 11 August 2005 01:16 (eighteen years ago) link

Needs kerning.

Typographer Joe, Thursday, 11 August 2005 01:19 (eighteen years ago) link

Nerds keening.

jerginsk (jergins), Thursday, 11 August 2005 02:22 (eighteen years ago) link

the yellow in the new one's cover art is fucking piss ugly and ruins an otherwise decent cover

BOC 'N' ROLL

amon (eman), Thursday, 11 August 2005 02:41 (eighteen years ago) link

I think the faded yellow is kind of fitting.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 11 August 2005 03:05 (eighteen years ago) link

they're "taking the piss" and putting it on their cover? you're right, it does fit.

amon (eman), Thursday, 11 August 2005 03:09 (eighteen years ago) link

ha ha!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 11 August 2005 03:21 (eighteen years ago) link

i went to a boards of canada listening party at a gay party with free vodka... weird mix of people, but i got too drunk to pay attention to the music, though it sounded a lot like boards of canada.....

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 11 August 2005 07:00 (eighteen years ago) link

YAY WE ALL GOT THE SAME EMAIL TODAY YAY I LOOVE MARKETING

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 11 August 2005 07:06 (eighteen years ago) link

this song serves notice on Caribou and Four Tet.

jerginsk (jergins), Thursday, 11 August 2005 07:07 (eighteen years ago) link

i don't think it does and i'm not a huge fan of either band.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 11 August 2005 10:48 (eighteen years ago) link

hstencil to be precise VIRAL MARKETING

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_marketing

[The timing just after 5pm UK time would have caught the UK finishing work slot, plus the US Eastern time zone would be midday - therefore the perfect timing to create maximum viral marketing.]

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 11 August 2005 11:37 (eighteen years ago) link

on my screen it seems a lot more blue.

As we all know, there is absolutely no relationship between the colors blue and green.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Thursday, 11 August 2005 12:04 (eighteen years ago) link

this is hardly viral marketing, martian. more like simple word of mouth.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 11 August 2005 12:10 (eighteen years ago) link

viral marketing = word of mouth

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 11 August 2005 12:14 (eighteen years ago) link

Never bought a BOC record yet... and that cover/title is still a buzz-kill.

Jeez, self-parody ahoy!

The Strokes get dissed for this kind of thing but BOC are on Warp...

fandango (fandango), Thursday, 11 August 2005 13:26 (eighteen years ago) link

dude, an email announcement hardly constitutes viral marketing!!

xpost

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 11 August 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

it's only viral marketing if mark p is working for warp or its publicist (cuz he started the thread) or if he found out about the new album when a hot girl at a bar mentioned it!
