Well, I think it's a great title given their evolution into more of a "metal" atmosphere. It seems like a logical step, if it can be said that a Jaz Coleman project can find basis in logic.

What exactly is that image? A cross being used as a cell tower or a speaker pole or some reference to cameras in London?

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 16 September 2010 00:52 (thirteen years ago) link

It's a cell tower I think

But this track is so good:

heard that track earlier today, my nerves have yet to recover. immense.
but yes, truly awful awful artwork ..
if they removed the skull and the engine part (??) then that would be an improvement.

This song is a monster. As monstrous as that cover art.

Cannot wait to FINALLY see Killing Joke in person for the first time at Roadburn in April.

Great tune, too.

Paul Ferguson really needs to dump the hi-hat/cymbals from his kit. The first 4 albums had such a unique sound in large part due to the tribal tom patterns and high frequency space opened up to Geordie's flanged jazz chords.

Don't mind Youth bringing in psy-trance production touches, but I haven't cared much for the past 22 years of KJ being the respectable Ministry alternative.

Sanpaku, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 17:25 (twelve years ago) link

Really, nobody else has sounded quite like prime era KJ. Certainly not later KJ.

Sanpaku, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 17:31 (twelve years ago) link

That may be, but as far as I'm concerned, EVERY ALBUM aside from "Outside The Gate" has been immensely enjoyable when it came out and has a place in their catalog - the metalic "Pandemonium", the acoustic "Democracy", the violently angry "KJ 2003" and the long sludgy grooves of "Hosannas" are all really different from one another and all fantastic.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 9 February 2012 01:58 (twelve years ago) link

absolute dissent is a pretty great album, the first in a long time from them that I thught really sounded like old school KJ.

I heard from a friend they were 'awful' in LA last year and had a tech stand in for Youth...true?

I like this new song.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 05:38 (twelve years ago) link

Nice! New KJ take a few listens to reveal the nuances but, yeah, more greatness. Frankly I find every single album aside from Outside The Gate to be worthy, no idea how I'd rank them as they seem to change with each one.

Any thoughts on "MMXII"? Lyrically, Jaz is completely nuts - FEMA camps, really? At times it sounds like a cross between Brighter and Repressed Emotions. It's not bad but it's not grabbing me like the last one.

Good last disc, but do none of those CD singles have the 12" content?

Mark G, Saturday, 12 January 2013 20:10 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I noticed that. Weak!

So I heard the 3CD "In Dub" collection that just came out. It's really more like Youth-plays-some-electronic-dub-and-occasionally-samples-Jaz. It has it's moments - an old favorite is the fantastic 10 minute Floating Leaf dub mix of "Requiem". Not sure I need to hear much of it again, though.

the crowdfunder for that launched 2.5 years ago, it could have been out by now if you updated this thread more frequently

Killing Joke had just got kicked out of Hansa Studios in Berlin for trashing the mixing desk. Christa (Plank) was paranoid that they would do the same in Cologne. She came up with a ruse to assert her authority and bolster her image as someone not to be messed with. She breakfasted on raw steak with the band. It convinced them that she was beyond fearsome and henceforth they behaved like schoolboys.

Jaz Coleman made a nifty EP with Deflore, an Italian band. Title track and last track reminds me of "Pandemonium" material, track 2 is a nice spacey instrumental with an aggro bridge.
