There is a bit of the last words of Dutch Schultz in how Trump speaks, especially in that Gettysburg address (sic).

it helps that jimmy's jokes are the funniest of late night. he must have some good writers. and he's less polite than the rest. he calls trump a scumbag and the like.

I was pretty shocked to see Blaire Erskine show up during one monologue, I know her from Twitter and she's very funny. no surprise that a late night production that would hire her would wind up being a lot sharper than the others. much better than Colbert which might as well be written by the Krassensteins

Maybe it's because Kimmel seems the closest (of the Late Night hosts) to the type of guy who might be a Trump fan.

yeah I've thought this as well, especially if you know him primarily from The Man Show (which I'm assuming Trump does). I disagree that he's like Rogan though, maybe they're both guy's guys who revel in dumb humor but Kimmel seems way more down-to-earth and skeptical
― frogbs, Wednesday, 17 April 2024 17:16 (two weeks ago) link
i think he has actually evolved? it can happen. i never watched The Man Show. the promos back then on MTV were enough to make me never want to see it. he just seemed like a random morning radio zoo crew guy back then. i remember when he had a kid who had medical problems and he brought it up on his show and i felt really bad for him and saw him as a human. years ago.

Rogan replaced Kimmel on the Man Show, which is why I made the connection

weird. i don't remember that. i mostly hate rogan for making me never want to watch old episodes of newsradio which i loved.

the other reason it's easy to be surprised by it is that Adam Carolla never did evolve and is some douche conservative still

he was on some stupid talk show once talking about how liberals were making it impossible to police because they essentially didn't let cops aggressively take action and kill the person they're chasing, so they do things like chase vehicles over long stretches including neighborhoods.
he was too stupid to realize that over-aggressive policing is why you'd find a cop ripping after a vehicle at 80 mph in a neighborhood.

Joe Rogan was of course the lvp of that Newsradio cast. I just remember an interview with Maura Tierney where she talked about how she was having a bad day on set one time because Rogan was really unpleasant to her, and Phil Hartman came over and gave her a very empathetic pep talk. I don't know why anyone would be mean to Maura Tierney.

Fwiw, when Kimmel started his late night show in 2003 (mere weeks before the invasion of Iraq), he was the only guy in late night network TV doing anti-Bush material (albeit kind of soft-sold -- he wasn't Jon Stewart) and one of his first weekly co-hosts was Janene Garofalo promoting the launch of Air America. Of course, one of the other co-hosts was Don King talking up "George Walker Bush" every night, although Kimmel seemed to regard it in a "look at this jackass" kind of thing.

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has found a new way to press for badly needed cash.In a letter received by Republican digital vendors this week, the Trump campaign is asking for down-ballot candidates who use his name, image and likeness in fundraising appeals to give at least 5 percent of the proceeds to the campaign.“Beginning tomorrow, we ask that all candidates and committees who choose to use President Trump’s name, image, and likeness split a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC. This includes but is not limited to sending to the house file, prospecting vendors, and advertising,” Trump co-campaign managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita wrote in the letter, which is dated April 15.They add: “Any split that is higher than 5% will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump’s campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”

I'm not a legal person but I'm guessing that the defendant outright confessing to his role in a major campaign finance violation, tax fraud etc in front of all the US media outside the courtroom is not a good move for his defense team.

well now we know the Trump team's strategy. wonder if he'll be held in contempt for stuff like this. one thing I learned from the trial I was on is that judges are very protective of the jurors and won't stand for this kind of thing. especially given how hard it is to find people to even serve on this thing.
After Jesse Watters ran this segment and Trump posted it, this juror asked to be excused because she was concerned about her identity becoming public. Fox & Trump are coordinating to intimidate jurors. pic.twitter.com/Fz8JC4A0n8— Ron Filipkowski (@RonFilipkowski) April 18, 2024

It's absolutely bonkers not just that a former president is on trial at all, but that jurors are dropping out because they fear for their safety *from followers of as well as the same former president.*
