Tbf to Al P, he says he wasn't supposed to read the 10 nominees. But "my eyes see Oppenheimer" is a funny way to announce the winner.

my grandma is suffering from dementia pretty bad where she can't remember the names of my kids or what she was in the hospital for yesterday, but her memory of events up to about 2009 or so is actually pretty good. feels like Trump has a similar thing going on

yeah pretty common to not be able to put new stuff in

My mom is in a dementia wing along with a bunch of other folks who essentially can't carry on any sort of conversation but damn if they still don't nail all the old-time movie trivia questions when they play "Jeopardy" in the day room.

I mean does he ever actually refer to any of the specific things that happened while he was in office? every time he talks about his term or the people he worked with he just makes everything up

obviously tonight will be all about that truth tweet. insane that he is still thinking about it. in court for a trial and this is what he fumes about. i never thought i would be rooting for jimmy kimmel but he is really getting to him!

scott seward, Wednesday, 17 April 2024 15:40 (two weeks ago) link

It's funny that every late night host rips into Trump but Kimmel is the only one that seems to really get under his skin. I think we all know what this means — Trump was a big fan of The Man Show.

it helps that jimmy's jokes are the funniest of late night. he must have some good writers. and he's less polite than the rest. he calls trump a scumbag and the like.

scott seward, Wednesday, 17 April 2024 15:55 (two weeks ago) link

Maybe it's because Kimmel seems the closest (of the Late Night hosts) to the type of guy who might be a Trump fan.

Trump was a big fan of The Man Show.

He's pissed he only gets to have Adam Carolla now.

i didn't think trump could get more ridiculous but he apparently has a full time aide who follows him around with a wireless printer to print out positive stories about himself, even following on in a golf cart on the course

APRIL 17--An Indiana woman is facing a narcotics charge after she called 911 to report purchasing an inferior batch of methamphetamine and say that she wanted to file charges against her drug dealer, police report.

As alleged in a probable cause affidavit, Sarah Harris, 34, twice dialed the police emergency number to declare that her meth was “not what it was supposed to be.”

The drug, she later explained to police, left her feeling as if she was having a heart attack. Harris said she had snorted a line of the meth and felt “something different when it touched her skin and nostrils.”

Harris noted that she and a friend had “smoked a bowl of normal meth” before she eventually obtained the meth that led her to call 911 earlier this year.

I was pretty shocked to see Blaire Erskine show up during one monologue, I know her from Twitter and she's very funny. no surprise that a late night production that would hire her would wind up being a lot sharper than the others. much better than Colbert which might as well be written by the Krassensteins

yeah I've thought this as well, especially if you know him primarily from The Man Show (which I'm assuming Trump does). I disagree that he's like Rogan though, maybe they're both guy's guys who revel in dumb humor but Kimmel seems way more down-to-earth and skeptical

frogbs, Wednesday, 17 April 2024 17:16 (two weeks ago) link

i think he has actually evolved? it can happen. i never watched The Man Show. the promos back then on MTV were enough to make me never want to see it. he just seemed like a random morning radio zoo crew guy back then.
i remember when he had a kid who had medical problems and he brought it up on his show and i felt really bad for him and saw him as a human. years ago.

the other reason it's easy to be surprised by it is that Adam Carolla never did evolve and is some douche conservative still

CEO Greedwagon (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 17 April 2024 18:19 (two weeks ago) link

he was on some stupid talk show once talking about how liberals were making it impossible to police because they essentially didn't let cops aggressively take action and kill the person they're chasing, so they do things like chase vehicles over long stretches including neighborhoods.

he was too stupid to realize that over-aggressive policing is why you'd find a cop ripping after a vehicle at 80 mph in a neighborhood.

Joe Rogan was of course the lvp of that Newsradio cast. I just remember an interview with Maura Tierney where she talked about how she was having a bad day on set one time because Rogan was really unpleasant to her, and Phil Hartman came over and gave her a very empathetic pep talk. I don't know why anyone would be mean to Maura Tierney.

Fwiw, when Kimmel started his late night show in 2003 (mere weeks before the invasion of Iraq), he was the only guy in late night network TV doing anti-Bush material (albeit kind of soft-sold -- he wasn't Jon Stewart) and one of his first weekly co-hosts was Janene Garofalo promoting the launch of Air America. Of course, one of the other co-hosts was Don King talking up "George Walker Bush" every night, although Kimmel seemed to regard it in a "look at this jackass" kind of thing.

As someone who watched The Man Show, Kimmel’s delivery was the main thing that made the whole thing read like satire to me

Cemetry Gaetz (DJP), Wednesday, 17 April 2024 19:20 (two weeks ago) link

I only watched a couple of episodes and I genuinely thought he was a dolt. His current persona/show is thus a lot more interesting to me than it would be otherwise.

I remember once on that show Pete Seeger was an answer to a question and Ben went on snide remark about how he was “a son of a rich professor”, and Jimmy responds “okay whatever”.

Wetting his beak.

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has found a new way to press for badly needed cash.

In a letter received by Republican digital vendors this week, the Trump campaign is asking for down-ballot candidates who use his name, image and likeness in fundraising appeals to give at least 5 percent of the proceeds to the campaign.

“Beginning tomorrow, we ask that all candidates and committees who choose to use President Trump’s name, image, and likeness split a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC. This includes but is not limited to sending to the house file, prospecting vendors, and advertising,” Trump co-campaign managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita wrote in the letter, which is dated April 15.

They add: “Any split that is higher than 5% will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump’s campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”
