I don't really care for Everlong to be honest if that's what you mean. 'Hey, Johnny Park' and 'My Hero' are my favorites in here.

Why don't you just admit you hate all music?

"Everlong", then "Monkey Wrench".

No, I'm not really into Everlong. You've got a problem with that?

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to challop when I say when

Great discussion, guys.

I guess not, but it makes me question why anyone not into "Everlong" would start a poll for The Color and the Shape in the first place. Or would even like Foo Fighters enough to start a poll for any of their albums.

"Monkey Wrench"

I've never much cared for Everlong and it doesn't sound representative of the band's music to me. It's like it's the best Foo Fighters song for people who don't really like anything they've ever done. I'm a huge fan of most of their other big singles (at least until the last few years, when I completely lost track/couldn't tell the difference). I'm also picking Monkeywrench.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 13 August 2009 12:33 (fourteen years ago) link

anything else.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 13 August 2009 12:33 (fourteen years ago) link

I mean, yeah, I'll probably end up voting "Everlong". But I'm actually finding myself thinking about this way more than I thought I would. "Monkey Wrench", "My Hero", and "February Stars" are all making their case.

Naw, "Everlong" it is.

I think my favorite song these guys ever did was their cover of 'Baker Street.'

cosmic abbigong (Abbott), Thursday, 13 August 2009 15:42 (fourteen years ago) link

i voted for "see you." challops or not, i really like that song. it's fun and there's nothing really like it on any of their later albums.

borntohula, Thursday, 13 August 2009 15:55 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm voting "My Hero" just because my old band did a cover of it and it's a ton of fun to sing (thank God we did it down a half step though...)

EVERLONG. didn't have to think twice.

overall, though, this record bored me to tears - 18 or 19 year old me much preferred the debut, and i feel the same today.

after the second album i sorta stopped caring enough to buy their records, though i've liked a few singles here and there. psyched for the greatest hits, you know?

You may be right: "Everlong" is easily one of my favourite rock songs of the last 20 years. I don't mind the rest of the album but nothing else on it comes close for me. (I love "The Best of You" though.)

Sundar, Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:28 (fourteen years ago) link

i like the first album and some of their assorted singles but "everlong" is obviously their best song

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:55 (fourteen years ago) link

I eventually wore out the obvious faves and wound up with "Wind Up."

would have gone with 'hey johnny park'. probably the only foo fighters track that's ever made me sit up and listen closely. kind of anthemic, which is what i hate about a lot of foo fighters material, but somehow kind of moving.

Charlie Howard, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 13:15 (fourteen years ago) link

Sorry I missed this - still very fond of this album. Would have probably joined the Everlong contingent, but if I tabled that I could give it to "My Poor Brain," "My Hero," "Enough Space" - oh, shit, nevermind! "New Way Home," EASY. No contest. The blood of the 16-year-old me still inside my head is pumping just thinking about that long buildup to triumph and escape at the end, fucking KICK ASS track, as good as alt-rock ever got.

I was joking upthread btw, Everlong is amazing.

Just listened to "New Way Home" on a whim, still blows me away, came here to post almost exactly what I posted three years ago. Don't care how hokey and uncool this band is, those first couple records are some pretty killer pop-rock.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 22 December 2012 16:19 (eleven years ago) link

yeah great record. later ones have lots of good songs, too, just are more hit-or-miss.

fanute me or shoot me (some dude), Saturday, 22 December 2012 16:29 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i listened to this last week on a whim and it's way more cohesive than i remembered it. prefer the tighter x-files soundtrack version of "walking after you" though

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Saturday, 22 December 2012 16:33 (eleven years ago) link

oh cool i didn't realize that a while back they did a 3 1/2 show where they dug out "New Way Home" and "Enough Space" and "See You" and "Hey, Johnny Park!"

can't believe "New Way Home" got no votes. it's not like i'd bet my firstborn on it in a battle against "Everlong" or anything, but it deserved a vote, at least.
