I'm not even sure if this is still up for grabs but what the hell. I'm bored and this was kinda fun to fill out.

1) Name three shared albums (+192kbps only) that others have successfully downloaded from you in the past week:

Amy Winehouse - Back to Black (320kbps)
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (256kbps)
Jussi Syren Rockabilly Revival - Stayin On Top of the Beat

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

Basically it is like every other 'ism' in the way one would tend to be biased toward whatever word came before the 'ism'. In this case it's "Rock". Rockists would have you believe that modern forms of musical technology (i.e sampling and/or computer enhanced segments) would make one what we used to like to call "posers" back in the day. In simplest terms, not a real rocker. It's a sort of elitist attitude to take and I, myself, believe that any form of musical expression should be considered.

However, I do sort of agree with the notion that commercialism and marketing have destroyed heartfelt and authentic music. This is also one of the thoughts behind Rockism.

3) Post a link to your favorite picture of Cat Power

[Removed Illegal Link]

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof? Why? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

I, honestly, haven't been exposed to much Deerhoof so I don't feel I'm qualified to compare the two. However, I'm very much a huge fan of Sufjan. His words are thoughtful, witty and even whimsical. I think the sheer idea of planning a release for every US state is, in itself, a statement as to his originality even if it is ambitious. Listening to his music somehow invokes feelings of hope for me. Hope for what? I'm not really sure but when I hear Illinoise it's like I'm in a place where things are simple and good.

I was lucky enough to see a performance at the Sasquatch Festival here in Washington last year. It was simply wonderful and goofy at the same time.

5) How many invites do you require?

Just one.

6) More:

Thought I'd throw some extra stuff in here. Shameless plug if you will...
I'm currently a member of a few other popular-but-hard-to-get-into torrent sites and I maintain a respectable ratio at all of them (1.53 being my lowest and 4.18 being my highest).

Thanks for your time. =)

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

Rockism is an ideology which borned in the beginning of eighties. It was formed by British

music press. The main idea of this is that some music genres (especially rock) and bands are

more original and more truthful than others. Rockists are against popular music which uses
sound synthesers or is digitally processed. They claim that music is form of self-expression and it
must freely come from artist's heart and creativity, but not from producers and sound engineers
labs on purpose to get bigger profits.

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof? Why? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

I had never heard of them, so I downloaded few songs. It's hard even to compare them. When i listened to Deerhoof,
I imagined weird chicken who first time got a guitar in his hands. Sufjan Stevens reminded me the Coldplay, he is
calm and concentrated and made better impressions than Deerhoof. So I stand for Sufjan Stevens

Dear Oink Administrator,

Happy Monday!

I just wanted to add that I very much appreciate your request to have us Oink hopefuls write about rockism. I was not familiar with rockism before filling out this application, and since I have become very intrigued with the term. I love all kinds of music, including electronic, and just last night a friend of mine brought up an interesting point about how these days he is always hearing kids into electronic music (DJ's and such) talk about how they want to be a "rockstar". It made me think about rockism, and I was able to explain this phenomenon in correlation to that term. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting and fun. I wanted to thank you for enlightening me to that! :)

Cheers mate!

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

Rockism is a philosphy on music that says music should be real. Music shouldn't be like some pop singers are where they dont have insturments or even write there own songs. A Rockist would enjoy bands like The Beatles who music ment something. They want you to write your own songs and have it come from the heart and not what some producer thinks will sell records. Rockism is a guitar and some drums and playin real music.

3) http://www.justunderthesurface.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/chan_marshal.jpg

4) Sufjan Stevens in my opinion is the better artist. I am not a fan of the deerhoof style of music. I like the more mellow Stevens. Deerhoof is music is hard to explain its kinda trippy is the only way I can put it. Sufjan also has much better vocals then deerhoofs singer . Sufjan sound seems much more polished then the songs i have hear from deerhoof which to the tell the truth is only about 5 songs but with that said thats all i really want to hear. Also i have to give it to Sufjan Stevens again for having the balls to say hes going to make a CD for every state. If he pulls that off it will be impressive.

2) Rockism is the ideology of some popular music is more authentic than others. Originating from the British press in the early 1980s; Rockism is suspicious of the use of non traditional instrumental equipment. This includes both physical and spiritual properties used in the creation of music. Synthesizers and “Easy-Make” tools are frowned upon. The same applies to to “manufactured pop music.” Rocksim proponents argue that such music is created on assembly lines by hired record producers; thus creating soulless and inferior music. Subsequently, all commercialized music is regarded as impure. As stated earlier, this applies to all music, not just rock itself. One may be “Rockist,” yet express a genuine passion for R&B in a “rockist” style. A noted subtext of Rockism states that, at one point in time, “They got it right.” Rockists cite a period of time (generally accepted as the 1960sor 1970s) in which music was in its purest form; namely rock. Although there are many ways to define Rockism, meaning there is no absolute interpretation of it, the overall premise is rock is the norm of popular music.

3) http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlny/original/cat_power_chanel.jpg

4) Sufjan Stevens. Although Deerhoof is interesting as well, I find the music difficult to get in touch with. Sufjan Stevens speaks with heart and soul; this is portrayed through both his usage of sound and lyrics. In addition to this, he ventures into the use of various sounds and playing styles with his music. Although the same is true (if not to a greater extent) for Deerhoof; the music feels more like a collage or cut and paste operation of various sounds. Whereas these new and unique sounds may please the ears of some, I find it troublesome. The music is all over the place, and therefore, retains a minimal amount of passion. Although I prefer Sufjan Stevens; both artists are unique and fantastic in their own way. In the end, however, the eye-opening lyrics of Sufjan Stevens topple the whimsical tunes of Deerhoof.

Just as music can be found in nature, through the song of the whales, indeed there too can be Christian Heavy Metal in today's musical climate. As long as there is an audience to receive the sounds, there will can be any kind of music. Although, I imagine in would be very difficult to synthesize the two extremes of heavy metal, which is often thought of as dark and negative, and Christianity, which holds Christ as the light of humanity. Essentially, these two factors seem to balance each other out. For one to successfully implement positive religious lyrics in a song that has dark and dreary overtones sends a message to me that even through the darkness in the heavy metal music there can be light, which can be made analogous to Christ illuminating the darkness of the world for all to see, it depends on one's interpretation and experience of the music at hand. I wonder if there is mosh pitting at these types of concerts?, that would seem rather hypocritical concerning the messages the Church sends, however, judge not lest you be judged in terms of practicing religion. Apparently there is still room for the oddity of Opus Dei in today's religious climate, so why not Christian Heavy Metal in the music spectrum? One may question if the words are screamed and sound angry, will it change the innate message of the song? I do not believe so, because words, regardless of how they are spoken, can only be backed with right action. If the bands adhere to the doctrine of their religion and are true to their intention as musicians, then I believe they can be classified as such. Take for example, South Park, when Cartman attempts to form the Christian Rock Band, Faith + 1. Although his audience received his "religious" message (even though it was satirized by trey and matt, haha "I want to get down on my knees and please you Jesus") and he won his myrrh record (which he then rejected and lost his followers), his intention was not to create music for its own sake and to praise God, but to receive monetary gain. Any band in any genre, not just Christian Heavy Metal, that follows Cartman's path is not staying true to the purpose of music, and I believe there is no place for bands like that in today's musical climate; however, we may never know what one's intention is throughout the duration of their career. Because I am not a Christian Metal Head, it is hard for me to define what Christian Metal means to one who likes it so much to consider themselves a head. I can assume that in general terms it is just like any other experience one has between ones self and ones religion, using music to connect one to the other in the form of praise, which in this case may seem a little angrier. There must be some sort of successful connection made between the audience and God using Heavy Metal as the mediator because people to continue their indulgence in Christian Heavy Metal. Music that allows a religious experience will be different for many different kinds of people depending on their background. You can hear the indigenous differences between religious music and even the instruments used of those who practice Judaism and those who practice Christianity. Traditional Christian Music is rooted in western classical and opera sounding music. Today's generation has a tendency to rebell against these traditions, which probably insighted the heavy death metal genre to begin with. For one to inversely use this form of rebellion to bring people, especially those of youth, back to Christianity is fascinating, and indeed must to fit some where in today's spectrum or musical climate.

As Michael Franti Would Say

Everyone Deserves Music
Sweet Music
Even the quite ones in our family
They deserve music

Not just the rich, but the everyday folk
Not just the men, but the women folk
Not just the straight, but they gay and freaky people too
Not just the white folk, but the black, grey, yellow, and blue

Even the sad ones, the lonely ones, they happy ones ain’t the only ones
Everyone deserves music.

Indeed this too includes the Christian Metal Heads.
