I wish people would have the decency to at least be embarrassed about naming things based on the MM/DD/YYY system.

Late to the Jack Black talk, but I think he was once pretty funny and could have developed into a more unique actor/comedian, but he was rewarded so handsomely to play the "JACK BLACK" guy in everything that he got annoying and old quick.

eclipses. they happen every once in a while. *yawn*

I mean, isn't an eclipse just 'night'? the sun goes behind the earth, right?

the new Beyonce album/Beyonce in general.

i find it vaguely impressive that beyonce has the ambition/talent to conquer every genre but i don't care about this one

mookieproof, Friday, 29 March 2024 23:27 (one month ago) link

wait til your hear her surf rock album

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 29 March 2024 23:29 (one month ago) link

i feel like i probably added beyonce to this thread a zillion years ago. i'm just kinda sick of america though. and americana. and corny corn bread recipe rah rah anthems. and the south. for reasons that i won't go into right now. trump.

scott seward, Friday, 29 March 2024 23:30 (one month ago) link

I don't really care about Beyonce but she's pretty easy to avoid, even with the dumb cowboy outfit

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 29 March 2024 23:36 (one month ago) link

i'm just not into that billionaire national anthem halftime show stuff made for amex commercials. i would be down for a cajun/creole swamp blues beyonce album though. in french. that would be dope.

scott seward, Friday, 29 March 2024 23:37 (one month ago) link

its not even beyonce really. just anything that reminds me of the superbowl. and money. i don't care about.

mookieproof, Saturday, 30 March 2024 05:48 (four weeks ago) link

It’s an album about awards shows.

That’s the only way I’ve been able to process the intrinsic corniness of this new Beyoncé album, “Cowboy Carter,” which, very much like the most punishing of Grammy nights, runs way too long, yet still finds time to involve Post Malone.

would gladly hear about tiger woods shooting 10 over par, but give me a fucking break when he's tied for 25th or whatever

mookieproof, Saturday, 13 April 2024 04:59 (two weeks ago) link

OTM. It's been the same in every single major he's been in for the last 20 odd years.

My God's got no nose... (Tom D.), Saturday, 13 April 2024 08:47 (two weeks ago) link

Woods gets more following and was totally unique as we have gone on to see. Making the cut even now is incredible.

Scheffler is very unexciting (and a Christian lol). Anyone who could've replaced Woods (Rory, Spieth) fell away after winning 2-4 majors in quick succession.

Aberg sounds like a massive talent but he's only just starting.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 14 April 2024 09:42 (two weeks ago) link

tiger was an utter phenomenon 25 years ago and he was a top player even ten years ago. he's a legend. but he's not going to catch nicklaus, and while i do not envy him the circumstances in which he was raised, he seems to be a weird asshole

as far as making the cut, well, so did vijay, and he's 61. anyway i simply don't need Moments and analysis from Tiger Woods' round about a dude who finished +16

(tbh i wondered if the koepka-dechambeau beef was a scripted work in an attempt to draw eyes to non-tiger players, but it seems like they really do loathe each other)

Golf

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Tuesday, 16 April 2024 21:56 (one week ago) link

Golf is so so hateable, maybe now more than ever, but god do I enjoy playing it and watching these assholes do their thing. Really was into Speith’s whole vibe when he was rolling. Loved watching lefty pull birdies out of his ass. Love how fucked up pebble beach is.

brimstead, Tuesday, 16 April 2024 23:38 (one week ago) link

Oof yeah, I am repulsed by golf

i still feel like golf is one of those sports where if enough people had the time to play it and practice it all the time that there would be a TON of legendary golfers. kinda like bowling. whereas, i don't think this is true of other sports. like tennis? or baseball? maybe sports where you have to have amazing hand/eye coordination. seem harder to me. i'm not saying being good at golf is easy its just that so few people ever get a chance to get good at it. but millions of kids play tennis and baseball at high school levels and hardly any of them will ever be good enough to play on a good college team, let alone go pro. i think there would be a tiger woods in every city if enough kids played it all damn day long.

so maybe that's why i don't respect golf that much. but i could be totally wrong. plus, its boring. unless you have some sort of procedure done and you have one of those good doctors who gives you the good pain pills and you are on a couch all day and that sea of green and sand looks like infinity and heaven rolled into a little white ball.

I enjoy the game of golf, but don't really have the means to do it, so I play golf video games from time to time.

beard papa, Wednesday, 17 April 2024 00:55 (one week ago) link

i don’t watch or follow golf but my dad did and i associate the sound of a golf game on tv with a certain feeling of home (in a pleasant way). i get being bored by it/not caring about it but it doesn’t rouse strong passions in me either way. mini golf is fun but i’m not very good at it lol

donna rouge, Wednesday, 17 April 2024 02:26 (one week ago) link

Golf

lol fair

i still feel like golf is one of those sports where if enough people had the time to play it and practice it all the time that there would be a TON of legendary golfers

not sure i agree, but it's a good question! otoh, we absolutely do not need more people who play it and practice it all the time

mookieproof, Wednesday, 17 April 2024 02:31 (one week ago) link

Man, I loved playing it, but didn't have any friends who played, and playing alone is not huge fun, and I always had sweat burning my eyeballs, and it's bad for the environment, so I gave it up after 10 years...but I loved playing.

Old school driving ranges (not that Top Golf shit) and mini golf rule

papal hotwife (milo z), Wednesday, 17 April 2024 02:47 (one week ago) link

driving ranges and mini golf do indeed rule! so much fun.

scott seward, Wednesday, 17 April 2024 03:36 (one week ago) link

idk if any higher % of ppl to swing a club make it pro than any other sport tbh

and if anyone has ever tried to consistently get any good at landing the ball within a dozen yards of a flag 250 yards away i doubt theyd speculate about how easy it is

nb only americans play baseball, really. and tennis seems to me to be /at least/ as middle class barriers to entry as a route

but golf seems to be one of those yank coded things and my island is essentially one large, reasonably-priced golf resort so hey
